Kev - nice to hear an honest owner - I didnt realise that the Corrado was such an expensive choice! Such a shame! The Fiat would have been fun for a while - certainly stood out in that 'nice' yellow colour but in the end it is the thought of Fiat electrics and 100,000 miles plus on that engine that meant my head HAD to rule my heart! I guess it is looking like that is what really should happen with the Golf / Corrado decision but it is too early to commit i think! Ed

Kev - waffle away - it looked for a minute like this thread was going to get hijacked only joking guys! I am a big golf fan and have been running a MKII GTi for almost 7 years but a big part of me fancies something a bit different. I did look at a 20v Turbo Fiat Coupe the other day but quickly got that one out of my system!! I really dont know what I will end up with but I am fairly certain it will have a VW badge and a VR6 lump - of some description! Thanks Kev - really just looking at which VR6 to spend my £5K on - Golf or Corrado? I have to confess to preferring the Corrado but most of the ones out there seem to be high mileage and I had an inkling the Corrado didnt wear the miles as well as the Golf. There is a 96 N Corrado on autotrader website with only 54K on it but then they do want £7k for it :?

Just after some general thoughts on the 2 engines, I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question but i thought i would tap you folks for an opinion anyway ....... assuming they had both been looked after in the same way (ie properly) with regular servicing etc etc etc - how do you think the life expectancy of the 2 engines compares? People on here regularly talk (joke?) about the 2.8 only just being run in at 100K but does the same apply to the 2.9? In your opinions when do you reckon an engine would start to become knackered / uneconomical to repair? Thanks guys - will be inter

And they are all sold x) you are all right though my car is out there somewhere and only once i find it iwll i commit to what the best colour really is! Guess the only good thing is that i will be out of the country for 5 out of the next 7 weeks so wouldnt be able to drive it anyway!!

Think that might be the best route - was a bit nervous about buying privately but after this morning I think it will be the best option. Will be keeping my on the classifieds on here and on ClubGTi - one will turn up eventually I guess!

Well that was a right royal waste of f****** time, dont mean to rant but....... you know what it is like, you ask the dealer what it is like and when you finally get there the car you see doesnt match the one he described in any way!! I can safely say the car was not a higline. Nor was it a "nice clean original example - immaculate" as e stated. It was lowered with twin headlamp conversion, new rear light clusters lots of stone chips and replacement air filter. This wouldnt have been too bad if it hadnt smoked like a demon when you started her up and then for about the first 5 minutes when

Right an update - the dealer is convinced the car is a highline! I have decided to take your advice (acf8181) and have a look at the car and judge it on its merit and not what the log book says! The only other info that I know is that the leather is grey - i was expecting black but dont think it matters! Also would the standard wheels be 16" or would these be an addition do you think - guess I could wait and see what they look like? Anyway, am taking the morning off work tomorrow so what should I be careful of? I know to look for rust on all MK3s but is there anywhere that is not always a

Well still looking for my VR6 still a MKII fraud and not a genuine forum member.....yet!! Pickings are definatlely few and far between at the moment!! I was wondering what you guys thought of the following before I go to look at it?
