  1. Tell me about it. If they dumb down Windows any more' date=' I might have to join Pete & co in the scary world of Linux!! [img']http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a174/antera309/Avatars/vista.jpg
  2. But you gotta remember that a 1Gb stick of RAM costs the same now as what a 256 Meg stick did when Windows XP came out, so in real terms it hasn't gotten any more expensive. Just been looking at Office 2007 as well. That numpty toolbar with the big patronising icons is just NASTY!
  3. It's visually far superior to XP and is great for finding your files quickly, but there's a few nasty bugs and program compatibility is not great. Pretty much par for the course when it comes to new Microsoft operating systems! Forget the 64-bit version - nothing works with it. The 32-bit version is a lot better and most hardware & software can be made to work by downloading updates from the vendors' websites. ETKA (2005) doesn't work with it at all, though (it uses 16-bit code) VAG-COM 4.0.4 seems to be OK...
  4. Yes, I had a leak from the same place and replacing the thermostat housing fixed it. Remove engine covers, battery and all coolant hoses and you'll have pretty good access to the three 5mm Allen bolts that secure the housing to the engine, but be careful - these bolts round off VERY easily. The housing in 4 pieces - 3 bits of plastic plus the thermostat itself. replace the whole lot. The only parts you should re-use are the sensors that plug into the front. When refitting, do not attach the housing's front piece (the adapter piece that connects to the plastic transfer pipe that goes across t
  5. My top tensioner looked pretty much the same as CorradoVR6-nos's, at 90,000 miles, so I had the whole lot changed. Fitting new chains and tensioners is actually pretty easy - it's taking the gearbox off to get to them that's the tricky part!
  6. Cool. Great weather for car cleaning this weekend, wasn't it!! :-)
  7. I've got STACKS to do. New front bumper, headlights & grille to get resprayed & fitted. One wheel needs refurbing or replacing. And an MOT would be nice, too! LOL
  8. Very nice! It's always good to see something a bit different. Gonna do anything with the bodywork? Flared arches perhaps?
  9. Wow! 320BHP! 280 is scary enough!!! LOL
  10. Woo Hoo!! Finally, 4 months since the supercharger went on, the engine is remapped and producing some decent figures - 278BHP and 238lb-ft. Here's the graphs (standard VR graphs shown as a comparison): On the road, the car is completely transformed - it pulls hard from 3500RPM right up to the redline and if you can keep the revs up, the performance on twisty B roads is simply devastating! I've driven a standard mk5 R32 and, trust me, this is a LOT quicker. More importantly, the power delivery isn't lumpy and uncontrollable like it was before, but nice and linear - just the way a superchar
  11. Note that many 1994 & 1995 models have the OBD1 engine, but an OBD2 diagnostic port (see second pic)
  12. I really like the Morette ones. Very rare and look very original.
  13. Aftermarket oil cooler kits usually replace the stock water-oil oil cooler, which is useless at cooling the oil. Does anyone know where to get an oil cooler kit from cheaply?
  14. Ha Ha! This reminds me of a conversation I had with a young female admin clerk in my previous job. She called IT Support complaining that her terminal session to the orders server at head office was terminating itself after being idle for a while. I explained to her "Well, it's like this, our server is only licensed for so many users at once so we set an inactivity timeout. If it doesn't see any action from you for a while it terminates your connection and makes itself available for someone else". To which she said "Oh.... it's like a man then.". I actually fell off my chair laughing.
  15. BBS RCs definitely my favourite on the mk3. If anyone knows of any for sale, pls let me know!
  16. This is the biggest problem with illegal drugs - no quality control. Although why someone would want to cover their valuable product in powdered glass is a mystery. Haven't smoked the stuff in years myself, but I'll pass the info on to those I know that do...

Me. I've been pruning the old stuff on the Malarky forum
  18. This is how it should be done. The stretch on PHM's tyres looks just right - not overdone at all.
  19. Not aware of any kits as such, but you can always get the complete wiring setup from a car that has the battery in the boot as standard. Any 6-cylinder E36 3-series BMW is ideal.
