    OBD 3?

This seems to be aimed at US States such as California where strict anti-smog regulations are in place due to the atmospheric conditions there. However, the technology sounds very similar to that which our Government are planning to use for their beloved road pricing system. is contradicted by: i.e. some sort of periodic test would still be required, so where's the benefit? Cellular bandwidth costs more than diamond-studded gold, dipped in caviar and dusted with cocaine. Who's going to pay for all that airtime? The motorist won't pay unless there's a benefit to him. The Government certain
  4. Fair enough, I suppose. We're all big enough to handle graphic images like those, but you wouldn't want your kids to see them...
  5. A 10psi pulley, water injection, an XXL throttle body and some 248 cams should put you well on the right side of 300BHP without resorting to the full stage 3 upgrade. If I was going to go for 12psi and a FMIC, I'd look at doing a short-runner inlet manifold at the same time, as it makes the pipework a lot easier and less convoluted.
  6. I had exactly the same thing. It's looking almost confirmed now that it's down to the valve timing being out. See here: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?139729
  7. Just found this website today. It lets you post details & pics of your 'Dub for rating by fellow dubbers worldwide! http://www.ratemyvolkswagen.net Just put mine on there. Hope it does well!
  8. 489BHP - Wow!!! Gutted I missed that. So how does the Rotrex charger differ from the Vortech & Z-Eng ones? Is it still a centrifugal charger?
  9. If going turbo'd, it's worth getting a short runner inlet just to make the i/c pipework easier and less convoluted. Plus, the benefits of moving the throttle body away from the red hot turbocharger & exhaust manifold are obvious.
  10. With a budget of £6k, I take it we're talking about forced induction. When my VR was in at Stealth back in September, I discussed the OBD1/OBD2 thing at length with Vince. OBD2 uses a faster microprocessor in the ECU, which means it can respond faster to changing readings from the various sensors (The MAF, Throttle position & Lambda being the most significant ones). Fuelling is therefore more precise under rapidly changing engine conditions. OBD2 also has independent fuelling maps for the front and rear banks of cylinders. OBD1 has one map for all 6. There is a reason why independent m
  11. At least being squished like that is a quick way to go. It's easy to get complacent behind the wheel of a car because you feel nice and safe in your leather-trimmed steel cage and think that high-speed collisions only happen to "nutters" and inexperienced drivers. They don't. At 100mph+ you are only one tyre blowout or one patch of black ice away from ending up like blondie. Take care out there.
  12. Bumpers are tricky things to fill because they are so flexible. I tried smoothing my original one by plastic welding plates into the holes and bridging with fibreglass, then flexible filler and it was a total disaster - the thing didn't last 5 minutes (it was replaced by a smoothed GRP replica). It must all be down to technique because Paynes & other bodyshops smooth plastic bumpers all the time without any problems.
  13. West Ham = "The Hammers" (hammer held by the girl)
  14. Reading FC used to be known as "The biscuit men" (look on the TV). I only remember that because it's my home town! Mind you, they ain't been called that since the 70s and the Huntley and Palmers biscuit factory (where they got the name from) was knocked down in the 90s.
  15. If I'd have come back to my car and seen that I probably would have thrown up. Thieving pikey scum. Please post up a list of what was taken, with any distinguishing marks if you can remember them. Then if we see any of the stuff up on eBay (yes, pikeys really are that stupid) we can let you know.
  16. VR6OC centre caps. That's not a bad idea!! :-) If you decide to make any more of those tax disc holders, I'll have one.
  17. The 3.6 engine is all-new (not just a bored & stroked 3.2) and is a fair bit larger than the 3.2 VW tried fitting the 3.6 litre engine to the Golf mk5, but there wasn't enough engine bay space left behind it for the (equally huge) DSG auto transmission. Without an auto, the Americans wouldn't buy it and the European market isn't enough on its own to justify putting a manual version into production. The same goes for the Audi TT. Like the Golf, this will only ever get the 3.2 V6. And yes, dropping the 3.6 to a Golf mk2 has already been tried. It doesn't fit. Not sure whether it's ever b

This is the craziest thread I've ever seen on this site. I just figured out what the first post referred to, but the rest of it... WTF?
  20. The Passat R36 is coming out here in the UK soon. With 300BHP it doesn't look to bad at all... Articles: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/11/15/volkswagen-unveils-high-performance-passat-r36/ http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/vortex_news/article_1871.shtml
  21. They should get together with www.safespeed.org.uk . That site has a huge following and it's forums are host to some of the UK's most balanced debates (IMO) on road safety & taxation issues.
  22. Try this test link xyber: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewforum.php?67 Does it put you into the Knowledge vault / Engine section?
  23. I'm thinking about putting this topic in the FAQ section because the old VR6 vs CTR debate comes up so much on here! What does everyone think?
