  1. Following on from the "how to make a woman happy" thread, here are the rules from the guys' side of the story. You gotta read thses, they are SO true..... 1. Men are NOT mind readers. 2. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 3. Sports on Sunday. It's like the full moon and the changing of the tides. Let it be. 4. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way. 5. Crying is blackmail. 5. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on
  2. The tweeter apertures in the dash are 3". The tweeters in the back are custom fit, just over an inch in diameter.
  3. The vortech charger has its own oil feed and more complex internal gearing than the ZR1 - this makes the Votech more reliable than the ZR1, but also makes it sap more power from the engine. A ZR1 will require periodic checkups & maintenance. The Vortech is "fit and forget". But a ZR1 will make more power than a Vortech at the same PSi. I'll leave you to decide which is "better" ! The MAF can be fitted either between the air filter and the charger (upstream of the charger) or between the charger and the throttle (downstream of the charger) as long as the ECU is running an appropriate map.
  4. I have always had good results with Autoglym super resin polish and extra gloss protection. Meguirs is good too, but requires a bit more elbox grease.
  5. The mk4 sump is aluminium, which means it will break open if it takes a hit, leaving your engine running without any oil. Not good. Many of the mk4 boys fit metal undertrays to protect the sump on their lowered cars. If you fit an ali sump to your mk3, you should do the same. Having some baffles welded into your existing sump would probably be easier...
  6. Converting a mk3 from something else to a VR6 is only really worthwhile if: - You've spent a fortune on non-removable body mods & a respray - Your mk3 is an Estate or Cabrio, which were never available with the VR6 engine from the factory - You get given the VR engine, gearbox, subframe etc. for nothing. Otherwise, selling your car and buying a VR6 will be the cheapest and easiest option.
  7. Haha! I went to school with Lara! She went out with my best mate a while back' date=' she lives in Guildford still. [/quote'] No way! Got any "before she was (kinda) famous" pics? LOL
  8. Convoy thread here: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?161472
  9. I don't think it's a jap thing. I've seen some really nice Euro-styled mk3s with the Mercedes sprinter type vents. If you're running a supercharger, fitting a wing vent makes a lot of sense - the cool air blowing onto the charger will prevent overheating and prolong its life.
  10. Yes, it's just one 24mm bolt that holds the cooler to the engine. There are 2 rubber seals - one inside the cap that forms part of the retaining bolt, and another between the oil cooler and the engine.
  11. You're welcome to meet up with us going up the M40, Nick. Always wanted to get a good look at that Highline of yours!!
  12. Check that it isn't coming from the oil cooler (the square aluminium block just to the right of the oil filter housing with the 2 rubber pipes attached). I had a leak there once.
  13. Spot-on. I'll PM you later in the week to make final arrangements to meet up!
  14. MacsVR6, is the part you're having a problem with the one marked "PCV Valve" in this pic? If so, this is covered in another thread - please continue discussion there: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?96025.post
  15. TT comps suit mk3 golfs better than they suit TTs!!
  16. Right on, Greg. So will you be coming up the M40? ICE system all in and sorted. It just need a good clean now!!
  17. Supercharger is off and sold. Been working on the ICE install today - coming along very nicely. Any convoys going up there on the Sunday morning?
  18. Your arrangement will prevent the intake of hot air from inside the engine bay, which is good. However, it will not give you the "ram" effect at speed like fitting to the bumper intake will. I can understand your concerns about water ingress, but I ran a BMC CDA with a cold air feed hose going to the bumper for 2 years on my last VR and never had any problems in bad weather.
  19. I have experience of both. A Schrick manifold will improve mid-range punch but doesnt give you much more at high revs. A supercharger running 8psi improves things below 4000RPM at least as well as the Schrick does (slightly more IMO) and has the added advantage of MUCH more kick at the top end. Supercharging is more expensive than a Schrick manifold & cams, but you do get a lot more for your money.
  20. I have 18" R32 wheels on my mk3. I think if you choose the right wheel (OEM VAG, BBS etc) it looks OK, but 7.5" is the widest you can go without major arch mods and the ride is pretty harsh on those 205/35/18 tyres... These tyres are also more expensive than 205/40/17s and they wear quicker.
  21. Power steering pump. The oil thins out when it warms up and the noise then goes away.
  22. I liked: WTF?!? There are some pretty sheddy VRs out there, to be fair, but given the choice between a 150,000 mile 1994 VR6 and a mk3 Astra GSi, mk5 Escort 16V or Renault 19 16V of the same age and mileage, I know which one I'd trust most on a long journey...
  23. Slam... 10x15 Split rims... VR6 engine...
