  1. Right - Stop right there! We''ll have no crap advice being given on this forum!! Take off the sump? So you are under the car on your back, trying to undo, what, the best part of 26 bolts instead of just the 3 for the engine mounts? Maybe also having to drain the oil out first, potentially ruining the sump gasket in the process, potentially contaminating your precious Mobil 1 with bits of grit that are bound to fall into it on the way down? What bizaro world are you people living in? 3 bolts versus 26? 26 bolts and a pan full of oil is easier? How? Jules
  2. amit - your car sounds like you should be wearing a clowns suit with big floppy shoes and a squirty flower on your chest & when you get out your car the doors fall off it all explodes!!! Sorry mate - it just tickles me when I hear peoples electrical woes!! cars that windscreen wipers come on when you open the doors etc.... Jules
  3. Yes - they are all above - all sort of Heath Robinson'd in there with weird clips holding them on top. Just check its all pugged in OK etc. If you do replace that control box, let me know how much it was. Jules
  4. um - check the wiring dude! Are you sure there were no other relays stacked above the lower set of relays? They are tucked right up in the dash and are nigh on impossible to see. You might have to un-hook the relay panel and drop it down a few inches.... Jules
  5. yeah - I found the carrier OK - it was just two big 17mm nuts. Easy. The hardest bit for me was the rusted pipe clips. You have to be Be real careful not to cause a spark when cutting them off.... as everything (including you) will be full of petrol by that point....! Jules
  6. aaahh yes. I was meaning to tell you, Sunday 28th is The Fast Show at Santa Pod...!
  7. So whats the head off for? Spring clean? Jules
  8. Sounds like you were rushing mate! The runner unbolts from the head, as I'm sure you've discovered! I think GSF/ECP can get them - not expensive though IIRC... Also make sure you re-time your engine with it in place.... Dipstick?! yes - it just pushes back in. Which hose do you mean? I guess same rules apply to any hose - just take account of engine rock etc. Jules
  9. hey I've just been reading up on this in the Bently manual. Firstly, you should check that there is voltage getting to the plug for the Lambda probe to work. The supply plug from the car side has 4 input wires, a cluster of 3 and 1 by itself: [1] [2] [3] [] [4] You check for voltage across [1] and [2] - whilst the engine is running. You might be able to use a small bulb if you dont have a digi-meter.... About the Lambda relay - the Bently calls it a "Heated Oxygen Sensor Control Module" - thats bad news for you as it doesnt sound like its just a cheap relay - its more than that. Anyway, for in
  10. The heating circuit problem could point to a relay fault. There is a relay which controls the current to the Lambda heater. VAG-COM can perform 'output tests' and Lambda heater relay is one of them. Give it a shot and you should hear it clicking under the dash once per second during the test. If in doubt, check its pushed into the socket OK and that the wiring isnt frayed anywhere, and that there is continuity from the relay panel to the Lambda socket - then last resort, replace the relay and see if that cures it. The relays are under a tenner. Cheers, Jules
  11. I've done this. You have to undo the front and rear engine mount and jack the engine up a wee bit until there is enough room for the bolt to come out. Jules
  12. yeah - they called it an "encyrption board". It was plug and play and by far the best mod I did to my normally aspirated VR6...... wanst it Nick Jules
  13. ROFL!! I think the guy who won the eBay auction has seen the group buy - hes a NON PAYING BIDDER!! its back on!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2466494313&category=43120 Nick - offer that guy £800 cash and he'll snatch your hand off I bet... Jules
  14. This is what I thought - I was also tracking it eagerly...! In the end, I thought its better getting the new one - you'll have a warranty on it which is particulary important with the electronic controller gizmos. Also, the gaskets and diaphragms will all be new which is important. Jules
  15. Yes - the signal for the fuel pump relay comes from the ECU. It simply closes/completes a circuit - so you can check the continuity and subsequent fuel relay and pump operation, by removing the plug to the ECU, and jumpering the appropriate connections. When you do this, you'll hear the pump operating and fuel will flowing through the rail. From the Bently book - note: as far as I can see, it doesnt make a distintion between OBD1 and OBD2: "Jumper terminals 6 and 55 with the ignition ON - fuel pump runs - relay will click" Jules
  16. what kind of puppies? I'll be cheking my fuel pressure this coming weekend. I half suspect a problem in that area.... Jules
  17. Simey, Whats your opinion on that then? I mean, who fitted the kit and is it likely? Let me know how you get on. I'd be interested to know how much a full Stealth diagnostic like this costs.... cos if I cant get mine running right, Vince can have it. Jules
  18. ha - thats right - and at the moment I've got it injecting a bnit early at about 3250rpms (with foot on floor) and I've used half a tank in the last few days... and about half a tank of fuel also...! All good fun - cant wait to see how clean my engine is inside now... Jules
  19. Yep - thats what I've got. Aquamist System 1s with Race Pump. I bought the Isopropyl Alchohol (Isopropanol) from Maplins. Its expensive at £10 a litre. Its used to clean electronics. You'll have a hard time getting Methanol - and there is no way you can get it delivered easily!! Ahhh - yes the wiper motor. I never thought of that. I'll take a look at weekend. Thanks for that. That website that shows how to install the Schrick manifold, spoke of using something up that way, but I'm sure it said that there was a spare connector. But anyway, I'll have a look and a play. I think I'll still grab ho
  20. um - me thinks I've fallen into an acf8181 trap!!! LOL! When on the limit, like on a roundabout, I felt I could balance or place the car more accuratly on the 16's. Sort of point and shoot. I feel with the 15's, that the tyres are bending right over and it feels like the car yaws or rolls more. A bit more squishy. Jules
  21. I've just put 15's back on after 3 years of 16" TSW Venoms - and all I can say is, I wish I'd have done it earlier.... yes - the car handles worse, but at least it now goes mostly in straight lines and can go over small pebbles and blips in the road without any major incident....! Yes - I'm getting old now - and I just cant be arsed with this "mind the kerb", and "mind that manhole cover" lark..... Jules
