Flexible (Induction) Piping Supplier?
jcorallo replied to jcorallo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
if we do a group buy, and the min is 10m, I'd be down for at least 3m... then its sell the rest off in 1m chunks minimum per person... ...also - its not really a group buy, more of a "tear and share"! Jules [ Edited Mon Jan 12 2004, 01:25PM ] -
Flexible (Induction) Piping Supplier?
jcorallo replied to jcorallo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
The VR6 intake is 3 inches or 76mm http://www.flexiblehose.co.uk/superelastic.htm looks OK but not entirely sure about the use of PVC in a car intake system. I'm sure I've seen something about it messing the car up.... Also, http://www.flexiblehose.co.uk/unielastic.htm looks like it might be OK. Both these have the Automotive symbol at the top of the pages... Jules -
Flexible (Induction) Piping Supplier?
jcorallo replied to jcorallo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
yeah - I need to speak to them cos there are very few items on that site that would do for Automotive apps. I want to relocate my MAF using ducting (instead of Samcos and Stainless steel piping) - so the stuff needs to be flexible, tough and non porous. Jules -
Flexible (Induction) Piping Supplier?
jcorallo replied to jcorallo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Nah - thanks for the suggestion but I found this place - http://www.flexiblehose.co.uk/ - its a bit far for me to travel, and I suspect they only sell to Industry in 10m lengths..... -

yes - so it needs to be that 3inch stuff -
HI Anyone know of a source for flexible/ribbed plastic/rubber piping that can be used for routing remote air filters? Cheers, Jules

Just gotta bite the bullet mate - I did - cost me loads - about £40 inc delivery from SnapOn, maybe more actually - cant remember. very satisfying removing and inserting the plug leads now...! Jules

couzens - it seems you have a flurry of electrical problems... are you sure that all these circuits are actually getting power to them? Checked the fuses? Just get a cheap digital meter (£5 to £10) and test for power at these places if not blown. As you seem to have a lot of things not working, I'm tempted to say that none of them are getting power - maybe a fuse gone or a main connector un-plugged somewhere.... Jules

[moved] anyone changed their rear beam bushes?
jcorallo replied to acf8181's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
hey - I'm due to give this a go in the next month - what needs undoing to get the bushes out? Do you have to undo the brake pipes? Jules -
sorry - I know I'm not called Mike but.... I did my training up North in Blackburn - top bunch of people - really enjoyed my week there! http://www.wpm-training.co.uk/ As I'm over 21 and previously experienced on bikes (trials and crossers) I was OK to do the 4 day direct access which leads to a full license. Heres how it went: Two weeks prior to the training, took the Bike Theory Tests. Monday - Basic Motorcycle Care followed by the 125's in the afternoon doing the CBT (must pass) - around cones and stuff, bike control. Tuesday - out on the road on the 125's all day. Wednesday - out on the ro

GSF for plugs - £2.50 each before vat. leads - about 50 quid. if you get Silicon leads, be carefull fitting them - the plastic rails on top of the engine have sharp teeth and they cut into the leads very easily.... Jules

Soon mate - very soon. I treated myself to a week off work to get my full bike license (in April this year). So I'm hoping to get one for this Summer.... Now I'm torn between the nice reliable (boring?) vfr800 vtec, and the Duke 748 or bigger - which I just love the look of!! Decisions decisions... Jules

heh - taking the cat on and off is a PITA - so I got an exhaust specialist to fab me up a silenced cat bypass pipe. So its a "bolt in - bolt out" design - none of this seized together pipes nonsense..... Jules

ha - hands up if you've bought brand new sensors that dont work "me me me!! Strange thing is, I was looking on gti-vr6.net library and there is an article about Beru parts - saying that they are cr*p - guess what - a brand new Beru O2 sensor from GSF gave no signal what so ever when fitted to my car - was a flat line in VAG-COM. It went straight back and I got Bosch instead for the same price. Jules [ Edited Thu Dec 18 2003, 04:39PM ]

the answers to your fault codes
jcorallo replied to zerocool's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
hi - is the hesitation you are getting on the Supercharged VR6? Which SC is it and where is the MAF placed in relation to the Charger? Early VR6's had the hotwire filament MAF, which was very sensitive - I guess if yours is a highline, its got the hot film sensor instead? Jules -
also, check to see if its spitting water out the expansion tank, then this can simply mean that the tank lid isnt sealing anymore - which can also cause bubbles as the system isnt getting pressurised correctly. Worth a few quid from GSF just to try if it is spitting... Jules

hi - like I said in that post, you really need to get a sniffer in the cooling system to verify if its the head gasket. This sniffer tests for excessive levels of CO2 in the expansion tank - which is a bad sign. I know its not conclusive evidence, but each time I've had the gurgles, its been the head gasket...! sorry...! You need to get it tested otherwise you'll blow nasty things like the heater matrix - not nice - I can tell you...! Jules
-
nah - I can smell the coolant when i lift the bonnet - so looks like I'm in for more expense very soon...! The VR gaskets rarely crack badly, so you never see a loss in compression - but you tend to get a weepage into the coolant system. If this is the case, you would see wetness under the coolant tank where the excess pressure had forced the water out the relief valve. Jules
-
Firstly, no - its not normal. As long as you are not overfilling the bottle, then you've got a leak. Is it wet ever under the expansion tank? check inside the oil filler cap - if you see a milky residue, then its either head-gasket or oil cooler - same if you see an oily film inside the water tank. if you can hear water bubbles gurgling when sat in the car with the ignition turned on after you have heated the engine up, then this points to a head gasket. I have a tool that sniffs the air in the water tank for combustion gases - which helps diagnose a bad gasket. another common leak point on VR

I'm hoping to be there at j29 meet, but my laptop has packed up (battery). I have all the leads and software - obd1 and obd2. Does anyone have a laptop (with a serial port) handy to bring along? Might have the laptop working by then however...

www.gsfcarparts.com This is where I get mine from - GSF part number 92756 £2.50 + VAT each = £2.94 each Jules

you can just do a search on Google actually and that can find the translations - you usually come across sites like www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk which has some info... Jules

Idle Regulation Adaptation.... 1) use VAG-COM to perform output tests on it - you'll be able to hear it opening and closing during the test. 2) check the wiring to it 3) clean it - might be gummed up inside not allowing it to operate to its full throw. 4) replace...

I hit a pothole - and its broken off inside the unit so the drivers side one points at the floor nearly. never liked the yellowy glow they give - really need some of those Merc style ones! Jules

I like the look of them, but do they illuminate better/worse than stock?
