  1. i reckon 1 deg to 1.5 is best for most people....its too little as standard. even one of my females friends east the outside edges of the tyre!
  2. its personal taste really but my opinion (if yuo want it!) is that calipers should only be shown off if they're worth showing off about....so brembos or porka calipers, yeah make them bright colours...but standard vr6 single pots should be kept black.
  3. i couldn't find the settings in the bentley (they'll be there somewhere but i aint got time), but the haynes says that it should be 40 minutes neg (which if i'm correct is half a degree), with a tolerance of + or - 20 minutes. this is for gti though, but cant imagine vr6 would be vastly diff...it certainly sounds right to me. however...i reckon have more (how much more is your decision). i run 2.1 degs tho! lol
  4. yeah, personal prefernce is a huge thing....i find the koni/eibach set up on a mates mkII too harsh for example, others wouldn't.
  5. well...i've had spax/apex/gmax/bilstein/peter maiden comps myself...and mates have had koni/eibach/fk/bilstein/gmax...obviously not on same type of cars, but the only common rule is no ones ever moaned about gmax ride quality.
  6. £50....i can get you a quote for a rebuild if you want...if the guy has time to do it. shall we take this over to PM's.
  7. the prob is whatever set up you choose theres the luck factor involved....unless you can go for a ride in a vr6 with identical set up. as a general rule tho the gmax seems the most ride quality orientated.
  8. crikey, sounds like the diff's let go.....box will eb scrap if thats what it is. i have a spare box, but its got a whining diff and worn 2nd gear syncros....so only good for a rebuild.
  9. drivers side isn't too bad...think that can be treated and saved, but passenger side will need a repair section welded in i fear. it won't be as horrifically expensive as you're prob imagining....take the skirt off and then go get some quotes. beuty of you having skirts is that the paint finish after the work ain't important (id consider just underseal once its done i think).

  11. only obd2 have transponders, obd1 don't.

swissol! ...buti doubt you can afford it (is about £70), next down is 'proper' zymol (£30-40), and then next after that IMO is 'halfords' zymol cleaner wax (£12, thats what i use)
  14. a lot of places (who should know better) don't know vw's have adjustable tracking (the vast majority of cars don't have adjustable camber)
  15. i use the black plastic one as well...bit weird to get used to at first, but better than removing your upper inlet manifold everytime you wanna remove them like i used to (trust me, if you tug them you will trash the leads)
  16. yeah, true...but you still have the weight.
  17. ok....lets start at the start....what is up with the 'box, can you describe it?
  18. badboy is talking about my impending MR2 purchase in the rev2 form which i'm hopefully getting they're surprisingly stable at the rear...more so than a vr6 over bumps! though if your an idiot with them the rear will come round. as fr the vr6...i've only once had it snap out of line...was on a very greasy roundabout in stoke. easy to catch though. well, most likely nothing can be done apart form rebuild it....but it ain't likes its gonna let go, so if you can put up with it then leave it. buts that just my opinion.
  19. well, at a standstill the mpg guage means squat....as your not moving. the critical bit to remember here is that the driver can make a huge difference. if you like to stand hard on the gas, or stab at it, or stop start loads, its all gonna drink fuel. me....i tend to slow down very little, and just keep the momentum up. i also tend to use very little throttle travel on the motorway...however, give me a clear a or b road and i'll be flat out!
  20. why not? left foot braking helps balanace the car at speeds....irrelevent which wheels are driven. but..it is a bigger advantage on fwd i grant that.
  21. lol remember aircon sucks bhp and weighs a good 30kgs (newer systems weigh about 70kg's apparantely which is the same as me!), and 5 doors weigh about 30-40kgs more
  22. yep...no light on UK cars (look on the good side....most people would have it on if there was one, as most vr6's have at least an old fault code logged)
  23. there are two different types of spring cup fitted to vr's, think the changeover was '94.
