  1. can i suggest everyone learns how to heel and toe downshifts.....i have a vid showing how if yuo want em to e-mail it to you....the gains are huge on these cr*p 02a 'boxes! and also, don't rush your upchanges....if you 'beat' the syncros you're going to fast. you won't really loose any accelaration, though your mind will tell you the you do!
  2. if you look at the results from the vr6oc rolling days, there is no pattern, apart from that most cars kick out more than the official statistics. obd2's aren't always more powerful than obd1, it depends on the exact car...a healthy vr6 is a healthy vr6 at the end of the day. highlines are no different to any obd2 car.
  3. oh, yeah, syncros can be damaged at low mileage...it all depends on the driver really.
  4. evereyone has different tastes....susp is a compromise. 99.9% of people feel the vr6 is compromised towards comfort too much as o.e., but sonds like you've compromised it too far towards the handling side of things now...for you. only thing woudl be to get softer springs, only ones i can think of are gmax...but i fear you may still find it harsh. my sugestion would be to go back to standard susp...then add some uprated anti roll cars. they will barely effect ride quality.
  5. yeah, any instant gasket is fine as long as it aint too thick or it coudl block the oil lines.
  6. personal choice.....but i highly highly recommend it.
  7. ok, cam cover gaskets aren't very pricey even from vw. make sure you get the correct one as theres two (one for plastic cam cover, one for metal). the top chain cover doesn't have a gasket...you have to use instant gasket stuff. i use vauxhall stuff (dunno the technical nale but if you ask for 'green instant gasket stuff, as used between head and cam housing on old 8v engines' they'll show you it)...its renowned in the trade for being the best apparantely, and costs £3 or so.
  8. it be a momo millenium with a 40mm spacer on the column

if its a sony unit i think you have to push a flat release key into the two 'slots' at the top of the unit (with face off)
  10. vw idiots....if you put larger ones on it'll ride on them more! what susp kit is it? there are a few kits out there with integrated stops inside the shock housing. some of the bilsteins are like that (not the vr6 ones tho) contact the UK main dealers for your kit and ask their advise i reckon.
  11. yeah, not only does it rev up quicker....but it also revs down quicker. so changing gear the revs dro more, etc.
  12. ABT is a highly respected german tuning brand specialising in audi's mainly i believe.
  13. if they don't have any bolsters you coudl well be right....i'm about to put my cloth recaros up for sale by the way...keep an eye on the classifieds;) heres the original sports seats out of mine - Click Me [ Edited Mon May 02 2005, 10:04PM ]
  14. it depends on the kit....speak to the susp kit manufacturers techincal department. bilstein told me it was trial an error on my -35mmm kit (apparantely, looks like a larger drop to me tho). i took about an inch off them and its fine. damo - i take it you're using standard bump stops and not those silly poly ones?
  15. chances are it'll be the clocks i fear....worth checking the connections on the plug though.
  16. have you tried unplugging the sunroof again and seeing if the lcds and stuff work properly?
  17. if she aint using it, clear it out and call it for yourself.....we have two garages, and a double car port...guess who uses the garages?!
  18. sounds like yours isn't the original to me....the genuine vw ones are pretty tough, the copies tend to last all of 5 mins. if your car is mega low though, only thing you can do is get the later smaller type.
  19. althought its not supposed to be like that you'll find that 95% of 02a gearboxes are like that. the notchy bit will be caused by worn syncros more likely than not....the box is a very slow shifter, if you rush the gearchanges and/or aren't smooth with it then you mash the syncros....not saying its you, but likely a past owner has done it. the original box in my vr6 was awful, 2nd gear was trashed. if i coudl make a suggestion, learn to heal and toe downshift...makes a huge difference on these 'boxes, and is better for them. as for the slack in the shifter....if you pull the rubber/leather boot
  20. clifford, toad, cobra....all these co's will do alarms with the stuff you require. i like cliffords myself. RAC trackstar's the best tracker i believe...but check up on that as i don't know too much about it. think its costs like £300 a year tho. even tho eat this said it as a joke, he's right that building a garage can be money well spent.
  21. yeah, there aint really any performance benefit to be found in any spark plugs...just use decent quality ones.
  22. i can't claim credit for thinking that up (though i'd like to think i'd come up with the same idea!), i saw it either in a mag or on a top gear style programme, and there was a brand new car (something exotic) that came out that requred you to the same thing!
  23. put the space saver on the rear and swap one of the rear wheels to the front
