No; I thought about it, but they've never particularly excited me. I would have liked an R32, but I think they're still too expensive for what they are. Mk5 GTI would be a different story but I didn't want to pay for the depreciation on a new car. Hi Nick, Hi Matt Blimey, I came on to say bye and now I'm starting all over again! I'm never on MSN these days - can't do it from work any more and my working day rarely leaves me time to do much chat in the evening. Apart from the car thing all is well - Mrs Brotherston and I were married in June, which was great. I'm now working back in the City, but it's much better than it was before. As for the VR, my enthusiasm has worn off to the point where I just can't be bothered to keep fixing the little problems as they arise, so it just sits there whilst I drive some crappy cheap-to-run Escort.

Yes I did take the battery out, but there was no monkeying around with anything else. I tried jump starting it the other day, but no luck. Maybe that wasn't enough. Gave the motor a whack too, but again, maybe I didn't hit it hard enough! Getting fed up now - I want to drive my car!!!

It's not flat, and I can't see the battery deteriorating that quickly. Rolling and tapping has no effect. I'd say I fear a new starter may be on the cards, but I still think it's too much of a coincidence that it went wrong whilst I was working on that area of the car. TBH I think something's been knocked put of place, but God knows what, I can't see anything.

I don't get any noise at all now! It's been suggested it could be the starter motor but none of the suggested solutinos have worked. I'll try and jump start it tomorrow to see. Cheers guys.

Hi all I'm sure you've all been pretty worried, so please rest assured that I am still alive. Unfortunately my car is in poorer health and I hope you can help. I just finished fitting a complete new thermostat housing assembly and I think 15 months of leaks are finally fixed. Having got it all back together I went to start it, but it won't. Flat battery aside, it's never failed to start in the two years I've owned it - last time I started it, on Sunday, it was fine. No, 5 doors is better. I've got a shell too, only I can't be bothered to paint it until I've got a chassis and I can't be bothered to locate a chassis!

I've had mine up to 125-130ish. Just did it to prove to myself that it could (with ease, in fact) and don't really feel a need to go faster. Generally, give me an empty motorway and I'm happy at 100.
