  1. yeah, h/g's can fail on any car at any time (or every 5k in a rover!) but i'm still not 100% convinced it is the h/g...you need to do a compression test as well.
  2. bottom end is the same AFAIK, except intermediate pulley of course. [ Edited Tue Sep 21 2004, 07:10PM ]

    24v v6

in that case, make sure you put an engine in that cannot be found in the mkIII already....24v/r32/1.8t..it all good!
  4. eeeek....sounds like diff about to implode to me mk3anni! don't spin the wheels with lock anyway...thats a sure fire way to kill the diff (which always takes the whole 'box with it)
  5. how much you want for it GeastB? might be useful for myself, if its cheap.
  6. sometimes you think one thing, then new evidence comes into light! lol
  7. yours only has a single fan? it certainly should have a twin fan, and yes, it fits there no probs. shouldn't be hard to fit twon fans as thats whats supposed to be on there. sounds like theres been a bodged front end repair after an accident to me.
  8. i have a pair of boge o.e. style rear shocks that i was planning on putting on ebay soon. can be no more than a year old...look almost new.
  9. have you bought the kit yet? cause theres a nearly new one on ebay for £30!
  10. or it could run on SAFE mode i suppose. you had it come up on a diagnostics check then?
  11. crikey, thats an old quote...since then i've found out the truth if you look on etka, the only control modules/pumps for AAA engine, even in late spec, do have EDL. [ Edited Tue Sep 21 2004, 11:20AM ]
  12. stealth are about the cheapest apart from phat's mate if he still has them. which type are you getting? i'd recommend fast road rear and g/box, and competition front. [ Edited Tue Sep 21 2004, 11:17AM ]
  13. you could keep it to be rebuild, or you could put it on ebay (as long as you say that whats wrong with it)
  14. i may know of a set of S3 alloys (6 spoke 17"s) coming up for sale very soon
  15. shouldn't be that hard...might wanna jack the car up and support it on axle stands as well lol
  16. its not really traction control, its more of traction help. called EDL (electronic diff lock) it feels more like an LSD than traction control. what it does is apply the brakes slighty to the unloaded inside wheel as it breaks traction. it only works at low speeds, and only takes a mild bit of abuse before the wheels will spin anyway. it's fitted to all vr6's, regardless of year.

    24v v6

one thing i'll say is if you decide you only want a normal 12v, then it'll be cheaper and a lot easier to sell your gti and buy a proper vr6.
  18. if its only 7 miles why don't you cycle...will take like 20-30mins.
  19. its hard to say what should be replaced without checking the service history of the vehicle. but what you've done is probably fine, maybe do the pollen filter as well. one thing, be very very careful with your plug leads. only use the special tool (which should be clipped to the bonnet support) to remove them. they are quite fragile and will get damaged if you just tug them off. oh, and they cost £100 if you do trash them.
  20. wait till the oil temp gets to 70 (thats the one on the mfa, not the dial to the left of the display) before going for it. not that i'm sure that caused the misfire...perhaps get the ecu fault codes checked. if it were an older car then we'd suggest cleaning the ISV (idle stabilation valve) but as yours is OBD2 it doesn't have one. OBD stands for on board diagnostics, upto M plate are OBD1, N plate on are OBD2 (has more electrical carp than obd1). always check your oil level regularly on a vr6 as they do use a bit more than most cars. yep, the car does lack grunt under 4000rpm, thats normal...
  21. you looking for a more obvious answer than a compression test? lol tony at autmotive solutions did a compression test' date='its slightly under the tolerance. the rest are spot on the same. i have no idea. someone is bound to though.
  22. well, start by giving your ISV and TB a good clean, then get the fault codes checked. never knew mkIII's ever had headlamp washers...mine sure didn't (which kind of answers your q!)
