  1. I was thinking of about 0.1-2mm, just to take all the dirt and fraction of metal off, leaving it like new I wouldn't have imagined it wouldnt make the increase of compression negligable?
  2. alrite thanks for the advice guys, will try making a start friday. Is getting it skimmed at a machining place any good? I've heard that removes the thermal barrier that vw put on the faces, although it removes every last imperfection.. any thoughts?
  3. Hi guys, doing a gasket change on the vr, and theres the usual sooty crap and a few lumps of oily residue. I've heard of so many ways of cleaning the faces of the head and block, from razzor blades and acetal to rough side of a sponge.. so what is the best way? let me know, cheers davr

  11. theres also a guide in the premium section on how to remove manifolds and rock cover, although as bungy said its not that hard, even I can do it! personally I would just change the cylinder head, the garage cant ask too mich for this surely?

  14. wont work, you would have to drill and weld over new holes, as they wont mount upto 5 studs
