Pulling to the left
vr6_super replied to vr6_super's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
right, got car back and says that the engine mount and wishbone etc look ok but one thing he did notice is that the struts are different lengths ie the thread showing from the locking ring to the nut or whatever it is is at different lengths between the front pair. could this cause the veer to the left, if the ride height is slightly different between the two wheels? -

ahhhh, not a lengthy job then? will remember that if and when it turns out to be the mounts, hopefully though it will be wishbone -
Pulling to the left

Thought I would bump this up as its kinda overtaken the new induction kit as most needed part. The car is driving fine at the mo but veering to the left and so having to have the wheel constantly turned a bit to the right to correct said pull to the left. Taking it into garage tomorrow to get the cause ascertained but going by responses sounds like wishbones / bushes. Though previous mech thought it was the left engine mount which kinda worries me as its 140 min for 1 mount and obviously the cost in taking the engine in and out. Anything I can do or can any1 suggest anything to check before ha -
Small Flat Spot At Around 3-4k Revs
vr6_super replied to vr6_super's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
kl, cheers for replies -
Just got this the other day, having a wee boost and when in 4th there was a small flat spot around the 80mph mark. Immediately came off the gas and drove normal. However to see if it happened again, I done the same but the flat spot came in 3rd, again then came off the gas and drove normal. It doesnt happen all the time but just annoying when u expect to have the power there and then suddenly its not. Any ideas?

Just out of curiousity which bushes would they be? Thinking I may just get new mounts anyways coz I am planning on charging it in the spring/summer and apparently new mounts are advised when doing this? Plus they werent changed when the new engine was put in or at least theres no mention of new mounts on the invoices. If I am going down the new mounts route, which are best? Ive heard about VF and Vibra? Any ideas? -
problem starting the VR6 when cold
vr6_super replied to paceo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
my vr6 is a bit like that at the start but when it kicks in its fine, sounds spluttery when cranking but about 3 seconds after it fires up it goes fine, havent driven it tho since it got really cold, just firing up and letting it idle for 30 mins in the drive -
i had this prob too, luckily for me it turned out to be the wiring rubbing against the driveshaft or something like that, temp fix by volkswagen a year ago and still going strong

Pulling to the left

thats what i got, 4 wheel alignment and there was nothing on the printout that pointed to why it was pulling, ergo would the engine mount issue be a feasible problem? -
change your driving style to suit the wet conditions no?

had alignment done and told me one thing, keep it away from my local mechanic. he told me tracking was fine and alignement check from duncan at hypertech shows it was way out, however that wasnt the problem. he fixed the toe and now thats set ok but still pulling, the camber is fine on the front but a smidge out on the back, however its too small to make any difference. he did say it could be the left engine mount as its got liquid on the mount (said could be silicon type gel from inside the mount leaking, indicating worn mount) meaning if its worn and leaning then that would pull car to the l -
just the invoices from volkswagen ayr detailing what was done but no info on engine used, but like you say its prob a 2.8
-
kl will keep an eye out, just wondering if its a 2.8, seen somewhere u can get 2.9s or whether they put a 3.2 in. doesnt say on the hood, just vr6, just curious as its higher than standard on the dyno by some 30-40 bhp and all its had is 2.5in cat back exhaust and some random air filter that was on it when i got it
-
was on storm site and like the look of theirs so looks like a bit of saving and little loan to charge it for next spring/summer. though i really need to find out what size of engine is in there. its been on dyno and is hitting 215. was brand new engine 18k ago was on stealth site but their links go nowhere and the site is generally not well kept, looks good until you click on things

had a look and onto the next upgrade i thinks, thinking am just gonna save and get a 2nd hand charger unit
-
kl will do
-
As above, any1 have any experience of if it does what it says on the tin? Kind of sceptical that for £145 notes you can have 20% increase ie around 30-40 horses? Input welcome

Kl cheers for the replies, wrapped it is

Hey all Got a few extra pennies and planning a few wee treats for the VR6. Have seen a couple of different looking 6 branch manifold (one attaches to downpipe and one replaces downpipe too). Fancy the latter tho I have heard of people heat wrapping them. Is there any advantages to wrapping them or disadvantages to not wrapping them? Cheers

Pulling to the left
vr6_super replied to vr6_super's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
See I was thinking it could be something chassis wise but would that not have shown up on mot? -
Hey all Common problem I see from various threads that I have read, my VR6 is pulling to the left in a straight line. When I leave wheel alone after starting off, going very slowly btw, the steering wheel just starts turning to the left by pretty much half a rotation. Tyres recently changed and tracking done and spot on. Also when tyre on left side was put on the mech said he needed a lot of weights to balance it coz theres some sort of small dent/bulge in the alloy. Said he got it balanced anyhow. From other threads sounds like maybe a camber issue. Can anyone who has had similar issues confi

coolant change and gearbox oil change
vr6_super replied to andynick69's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
cheers, sods law had a job at a garage today and he said gearbox oil only really needs done after 100k really or when the box decides to call it a day lol and may as well do the oil and coolant for the winter, give her a wee treat considering all the punishment she gets lol tho really need to get her on a dyno coz last night pushed a vr32 which is around the 250 mark, on the level with a push i had against a 260bhp cupra the other month, defo standard but shes got guts -
