So home we are lol Findings, belt is ok. Managed to drive it home. Squealing noise when taking corners. No leakages anywhere when turning the wheel. Also no movement in fluid level when turning the wheel. Verdict, likely steering pump dead. Agree? -

Power Steering Pump Packed In???

It makes me feel better that it might just be a lack of fluid issue rather than the actual pump. Tho that just leaves me the prob of getting it home lol. Cheers for the advice. Whenever I manage to get it home I will check it out -

Well following on from my last thread, I think the pump is f**kd Sods law, first saturday off in weeks and its scheduled to go in to get looked at and I get convinced to work for triple time. Big mistake. Pulled out from chinese and as soon as I went to turn the wheel I heard a bang from the front end. Was plenty away from the kerb so that wasnt it and the steering is nigh on impossible to turn. Whenever I try to turn the wheel it doesnt move, or maybe just a little, but I hear a whiney noise. Now, has the pump given up the ghost or could it possibly be lack of fluid? Personally I hope its the -

Knocking Noise When I Turn Steering Wheel?
vr6_super replied to vr6_super's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
nah not found out yet but not as bad as yours i think tbh i only really notice it when turning the steering wheel when stationary or going slowly, and the power steering is absolutely shit so thinking the pump may be fukd or possibly no fluid left -
Nah, my issue is when I start off it splutters but when I am over say 2500 revs its fine, and it goes where I want it after that. Had it out a couple of times since original prob and its been fine since. How often is yours happening?
-
Yeah ive had it like 3 times this year and no idea what it is. It will probably be fine the next time I drive too, thats the annoying bit. My symptoms were just taking off was a bit spluttery but once I planted it it was fine. Dont know if it might be a fuel issue? Put Momentum in after using V Power for a while. Maybe a fuel filter issue, injector issue. All stuff to think about I spose.
-
Yeah thats what I was thinking, will do the normal plugs, leads, coilpack checks etc for the splutter and see what materialises. Re the window and wiper, will it not tell me if there is a break in any system? Like a faulty motor, fuse out, stuff like that?
-
I know people usually say to go VAGCOM but given the cost factor has anyone used the Lonelec readers before? I would prefer the VAG one to be honest if not for the analysis work alone but budget dictates I need something a bit cheaper lol I have a few problems with rear window wiper, passenger window and now I have a low range splutter that comes and goes every few weeks
-
alrighty then, first vr so good to know others have same thing
-
when you stand beside it you can the rush or warm air from the engine on the passenger side after driving for a while, also when you open the bonnet you get hit with warm air and finally I got "engine runs hot" messages at last 2 MOT's
-
Hey all Engine running very hot tho all dials show normal figures ie under 100 for oil and the water temp stays in the middle all the time. The fans work and arent damaged. Thinking maybe something to do with the radiator due to age? Any thoughts?
-
woohoo, job done, pic attached of final end result, spoke to ramair guys who said it doesnt have to necessarily be point out at 90 degrees so its cable tied underneath at practically 45 degrees quick one tho, does it make any difference to sound of exhaust? ran it for 10 mins and revd it to just under 3k and it sounded like a scooby lol, it already has a 2.5in ss cat back system

right, canister off, black pipe blocked, clear into wing, now wondering where the end of the ducting should go at the front of the car? there is nowhere to put it where it gets 100% of the air str8 into it. i can fix it so that half of it is showing from under the front spoiler but thats the best i can do for str8 in air. i wouldnt assume that you should fit it so that it doesnt get str8 in air is half visibility good enough? there is no room behind air vent and the radiator takes up the space in the middle part of spoiler but to be honest, while i am typing this i am remembering its not the s
-
yeah it does, just back in from work and about to remove canister and finish it off, heres hoping it goes ok, tho what do you make of little bit of oil in intake pipe between engine and afm? anything to worry about?
-
basically this is how it looks now, before getting involved with the ducting etc and without the adaptor the only issue is now i have to secure it another way but cant see that being too taxing, now onto the search bar and instructions on removing the carbon canister
