  1. right, didnt get much help back from ramair guys, tho given using the entire kit the way the instructions say then it isnt going to fit in. there is a metal/aluminium fitting that attaches to a bracket that goes against the suspension turret in order to support the filter unit, if i bypass this then it fits with a couple of inches for ducting which i can live with, however will need to find another way of supporting filters weight, however when going into the air intake pipe (assuming this is the pipe which the afm goes into) i stuck my finger up there and got oil. is there supposed to be oil
  2. will take another look later after work but pretty sure its one unit although what you describe is what it is like in the instructions supplied, but like i say it looks like one complete unit from what i can see although its not a silicon hose, its kinda solid, like plastic or some kinda composite, its certainly not bendable anyway
  3. its like a figure of 8 thing down there
  4. kl, found the info i need, that cures the ducting prob but still dont have much room to get the ducting in there and flowing good into there. spoke to guys at ramair and they are taking a look at the pic and seeing what they can suggest
  5. ah got u, but the carbon canister houses the air filter and its a cold air fed unit, the whole point is to stop the heat getting to the filter and keep the air colder
  6. carbon canister? isnt that the air flow meter?
  7. It has done 190k, tho the engine only 20k lol Well its a cold air fed unit so the ducting has still to go on but there is literally an inch between the end of the unit and the back of the light fitting. However in the instructions pics there seems to be enough room, but there is no light fitting that I can see
  8. Trying to attach a pic to show what it looks like but followed the instructions to the letter and just doesnt look right.
  9. Prob a newbie question but just wondering. Got a Ramair kit and fitting at the moment but if I put in the AFM, the end of the cone is pretty much right up to the back of the light fitting with no room for the ducting to go in. On the ducting front, how the hell do you get it down to behind the grill without hitting the belt/chain thing? As far as I can see there is no room for it Any thoughts?
  10. From what I hear on the radio and stuff insurance is supposed to be rising and yet my renewal comes in and its £100 less than last year at £285!!! Only mod is alloys. Anyone else hear of insurance dropping? They also dont take into account NCB which I thought weird. Its through Perf Direct.
  11. will be throwing it away coz its a cold air fed unit and ive got ducting to cable tie down behind the grill what does the airbox attach to tho?
  12. Got the induction kit through today and set about swapping over but getting the airbox off is becoming a pain in the jigglies. The small screw at front of airbox has basically no star insert left to get the screwdriver into so just wondering if there is another way to get it off?
  13. na mate, had a look at the price of replacement pump and put on back burner for now, doing induction kit, coolant and oil change at the mo from what i hear it could the pump on the way out, steering does feel heavier than it used to and previous owner used atf as opposed to hydraulic fluid, apparently it corrodes pipes or something like that
  14. Looking to do both and the weekend however been to local TMS jobbies and they dont do G12, only G30 and G48. Will either suffice or is better to track down G12? Oil wise I have heard people say go fully synth and some go part synth. Whats the best way to go? The engine isnt as old as the car, prob only around 4-5 years old and only done 20k ish.
  15. think i will be needing the 15% too given the rises recently, cheers for the help
  16. lol, will do, on another note, how long does an aftermarket cone filter last? when under the boonet i seen it is basically covered and doubtful if there is actually any or very little air getting through. the previous owner just had a cone sitting on top of the old air box, thinking i may replace it and just get an induction kit, hearing good things about the ram air contraption.
  17. When I say boosting I just mean driving fast lol. Will sound newbie ish but how do you check that the fan is working other than it coming on when you are stationary to cool the engine?
  18. Just wondering what other peoples experiences are. Oil temp normally sits around the 90 mark, if I'm boosting goes up to 104 ish and engine temp gauge sits on the middle all day long. However when I open the bonnet there is an almighty heat coming off the engine and every time I shut down after a drive there is still the cooling system is it, still whirring around the water for about 10 minutes. This normal? If not then any ideas? I havent changed the coolant, even if it is coolant, could just be water tbh, but kept on topping up to correct level.
  19. was kinda bumping the "where do i get rack rebuild kit from" question lol
  20. any ideas on where i can find a rack rebuild kit? tried vw but they hadnt heard of it
  21. any ideas what stuff vw recommend, would consult a haynes manual if they done one lol
  22. yeah green is the colour of the correct one and it does sound like that is what is happening to the system. time for flush and take apart and see damage we are looking at
  23. Couldnt really think of am appropriate title without explaining question so here it is. One garage tells me ATF is ok to use as power steering fluid whereas another garage said most cars can use ATF as power steering fluid but VW's prefer CHF (Central Hydraulic Fluid). Who is right?
  24. i am going to change the power steering pump and see what happens. had three garages look at it and they all said mechanically its fine
