  1. Just about to buy new fronts for the beast and wondering what is the normal load rating to go for? Currently the fronts have 80 but the tyres I am looking to get (Kumho KU31 Ecstas) come in 84. Guy I spoke to said if you go higher then youre fine but just wondering if there is a standard for VR6's?
  2. fyi i had an abs problem when I got the car and took it to local garage who said it was the sensor. got a sensor and swapped it over and the light was still on. then took it into volkswagen garage and they said the wires were rubbing against the driveshaft thus the signal wasnt getting from a to b apparently. they fixed the wires and voila no more light on. funnily enough tho recently my airbag light, which was always on as i have an aftermarket wheel, suddenly goes off now after starting the car woohoo
  3. just like the thread says, who would u say would come out on top? its my vr6 with str8 thru system and bmc kit against the type r, hks cat back, no other mods. My engine has done 17k since being replaced and his is a 2002 r thats done around 70k Apparently the r's hitting around 194 mark and I heard that the obd2 engine hits around 184 standard. So, opinions? PS Its not the DC5 engine, just run of the mill type r engine
  4. do 5 dr leather seats fit the 3 dr frames? i assume there is no mot issue if the drivers seat has no lever for letting in passengers. theres one for sale like 15 miles from me for a change
  5. I know its sounds like a newbie question but just wondering if buckets seats are defined by 3 or 5 door or if its just the subframe that matters?
  6. first and foremost he needs to check to see if theres a spark, having an oil leak doesnt help even if it is a sensor prob quick question tho, is it a sensor prob or an actual leak?
  7. i echo what matty came up with, sounds like same prob i had with a previous car. basically the sensor sends a signal to the ignition module to start the firing order. if theres no signal then theres no sequence to start, thus you will just keep turning over. my prob was oil had somehow got into sensor and heated up and fekd it. check to see if theres oil on yours. easier thing to do first is check to see if theres a spark to begin with peace out
  8. as the title suggests when i am downshifting approaching a roundie say there is always a slight judder when i go into 2nd, yet changes to other gears are fine is this a common thing for the vr6? anything to worry about? it had brand new gearbox and engine 15k ago so cant be age. lack of oil maybe?
  9. the guy i got the vr from put a random cone filter on it but i am thinking of changing it for a differrent one. Although there are many to choose from but been told the power increase is neglible. Was also going to fit 6 branch coz I thot the air flow would be better and thus increase the power but people here are saying that it doesnt increase the power. Already got ss from the cat back and plan was to 6 branch it with a decat pipe.
  10. See now I have to get my VR on the rolling road coz I have always thot it was faster than the 174bhp it was supposed to have. My old shot to sh*t GTIR engine was putting out 197 and the VR doesnt feel any diff. I have measured the 0-60 and its around the 6 sec mark, not the 7.4 the book says
  11. and how much did the turbo upgrade and install cost?
  12. back on topic now lol 8-) i am in the same boat as u mate, i am planning on charging for the summer. choosing charging over turbo mainly coz of the lag factor. my gtir didnt kick in until 3000 ish revs and the vr engine comes into its own around 4000 so i want that oomph str8 away. i recently had a custom ss exhaust put on from cat back and will be getting the 6 branch and de cat pipe in next 4 weeks. the reason i didnt get it str8 away was the mot factor, which it passed 2 days ago, with a little help from some glue lol air flow is one of the most important factors for increase power after th
  13. was going to explain but didnt want to ramble the mechanism inside the driver seat is feckd, whenever you plant the boot the seat falls back to a sorta ned like seating position the garage i take my car to, or used to take it to now after the brakes fiasco, said they couldnt do anything to it bar put glue down it to at least keep it upright for a while, anyhow it failed the mot because it couldnt be secured in an upright position apparently was gonna get decent seats but saving the now so cheap ones will do for mot
  14. got the chance to replace my leather 96 vr6 seats with the 92 vr6 fabric ones (mot fail) will these just fit on the same frames? i know its prob a stupid question but askn anyways lol
  15. see theres the problem, the beast is that bloody low i cant get a jack underneath lol on way to find a seat noticed as well that its only making the noise when im turning to the right so that backs up the theory, think i will just get new kit and get it fitted somehow cheers all for the help
  16. think thats where the noise is coming from, just back from mot and it failed on drivers seat and number plate light, personally thats a result lol but one advisory is slight play in offside rear wheel bearings, had a look on euro car parts and theres a orbis rear wheel bearing kit for 8.25, quality site
  17. see thats what the mech said but when i mentioned that to someone else he says the bearings dont have anything to do with changing discs the prob only came on when discs were changed. would the discs be affecting the bearings?
  18. cheers, kinda weird but the handbrake light was always coming on after released b4 discs were changed now its working perfectly problem was bad on monday after 5 miles, but gave it a boost yesterday and it only came on after around 20 miles, and it wasnt as loud, will give it a while and see what happens
  19. just had brakes changed, discs and pads. had green stuff pads on previously that werent worn at all but told by mech that they were race pads and not really effective on road use because they needed heat to work. anyways new discs and pads on and now I am getting a whining noise from the rear. it comes on after about 5 miles. you can here it faintly when your driving normally and more when youre slowing down. could it be the calipers seized (prob there is that he says calipers are fine) and once theres a bit of heat in there it starts whining? or maybe the pads set wrongly? any help welcome
  20. you may get interest as its a good price but i got mine for 14.19 from euro car parts, so then again maybe not lol
  21. just like the thread says i am having to replace the offside rear sensor but wondering if its something i can do. any1 know if there are any guides on the forum, had a quick search but couldnt find anything, tho could be i didnt look hard enough lol
  22. phoned the guy up and hes now quoting me 30 plus vat, had a swatch on euro car parts and there s a macht sensor for 14 or a vemo one for 49, hmmmm wonder which one i will pick lol cheers for the help guys and gal
  23. yeah thats what i was thinking but all he had in bag was the sensor, no connector or cable
