  1. it moves from the top end but ive had a few people think its the cv joint so looking at that but the top mounts, even if not anything to do with it, still look wrong, theres nothing flush about them
  2. kl, cheers for the confirmation, had a guy come look at them last night and he thinks the same as me, the rubber mounts arent sitting right, looks like they may be wrong ones or just fitted wrong, going to strip down and see what the story is
  3. Hi Kinda related to my post below. I saw a vid on YT with some guy and his GTI jacked up showing us the top mount etc. His was flush against the body. I dont know if its supposed to be like that when its jacked up but is there supposed to be a gap when the car is sitting normally? What I see on mine is the body, then about an inch gap or just under until the strut top and in between you can see the rubber mount, which is not sitting pretty. Any ideas?
  4. Hey all VR6 been ok recently until yesterday when started to get knocking when turning right, from the nearside front area. The steering isnt jumpy or leaning or anything so jacked up, and took off the wheel. I was able to shake the suspension strut and move it prob a half inch side to side. Should the strut move, even when the wheel is off? I also noticed the strut tops were perished and arent sitting right on either side but worse on the nearside. So does it sound like something simple like replacing the strut tops? They were done around a couple of thousand miles ago but unsure as to wheth
  5. Well took out the fuse for the horn and all ok but obviously its not the best not having the bugger working and less ok when coming up to MOT time so looking for a fix. When I turn the ignition the horn goes off. When I have the centre cap of the aftermarket steering wheel off and start the ignition then no noise so the problem is in the contact which I suppose is a good thing. I assuming the horn goes off, or should, when the silver cone thing touches the brass type little dot? Or are there any other connections that cause the function? Any quick fixes or am I looking at a new set of contacts

  7. Kl cheers for that buddy The fan run on is a pain in the arse as well, it stays on for around 10 minutes, dont think it should be as long as that should it? Will post back later
  8. Hey all back again Tried horn yesterday and wouldnt work, gave it a little bash, still nothing and then gave it a big bash and its staying on whenever the ignition is turned on (luckily I was at a mates and was able to abandon in the car park though I dont think the neighbours would have liked the wake up call at 7am lol) Anyhoo, its an aftermarket jobby from previous owner and I am thinking that I may have jammed the connections together with my "bashing". Didnt have anything to prise off the centre cap with me so going back later to do so and have a little play about. Failing that what is t
  9. Just got the VR back home and it feels good. The problems are gone and while there is still a whiff of smoke still coming from the mani, it will eventually burn off. Altogether 200 notes inc a replacement oil filter because TMS supplied, yet again, wrong parts. I mean honestly, I give them my reg number and they still give me the wrong part. Is that common? It wasnt just the filter but 3 things I have had from them have needed to go back. Last time I go there. Also includes 15 notes for lubricant which they will be getting chased about tomorrow coz I gave them 5 litre of oil and a litre of CHF
  10. Well then folks thats the VR back in the driveway after much hassle. Dont know what fixed the problem and I dont care. The steering rack pump and hoses all working fine. No veering anymore and no clicking when I turn the wheel, even when stationary. Dont know how long the replacement parts will hold for but for the time being its looking good. Cheers all for replies and suggestions.
  11. Well dropped car off Tuesday morning and they still have it. Called back Tuesday night and they werent done with it, got the "its a lot of work its in for" speech. Granted there are only 2 of them there so will let them off. Called back in yesterday afternoon and it turns out when removing the old pump and hosing they fukd up the banjo bolt holding the hose to the steering pump and he couldnt track one down. Tho they didnt call me to let me know and I could have tracked one down sooner. A quick call to the kind peeps at a south coast breakers and they are sending one up gratis and first class
  12. I thought it would have been the other way when the lights come on the revs would drop as that happens to me when the radiator kicks in, havent noticed any change in the revs with the lights.
  13. Well, thanks to a good night at the casino last week the VR6 is in the garage getting some stuff done but would like opinions on how long it should take. I dropped it off yesterday morning and it wasnt ready at closing time. They are doing..... Engine flush and refill Change steering rack and hoses Change power steering pump Refill power steering fluid Also when the car was in last week to get the CORRECT fluid in the system, when I got it back it had a misfire and smoke coming up from the back of the engine. The misfire was explained by "washing" something or some condensation got in there an
  14. I dont think its not unknown for the battery to have enough power to power the alarm and lights but not enough to turn the engine over. Just get a volt meter thing and test the battery, failing that just get some jumpers and try jump starting it and see what happens after you leave it running for a while. If its working fine one minute and then not the next after you sit and use power with no battery charging going on, the only answer I can come up with is a dead battery, or maybe the starter motor has packed in? When you have been starting it recently has it been turning over for a while befo
