still miss my zetec s used it at brands hatch alot so ended up stripping it fully and st24 front brakes. not the fastest car but was sooooooooooooooo much fun to drive and handling spot on. would describe it as 'fizzy' haha
-
go for chains then.....not sure on managment on 24v swap......TPS are vw so ur good using them
-
i was thinking this due to being offered a mega cheap bora with blown lump.....love booted cars me! one 1st and very brief inspection the mounts all in different postions....no front mount instead its on the offside.....anythings possible tho! if u got the 2 full cars sure with a bit of work it can be done - some out of the box thinking and u'll have summit a bit different,
-
all i was thinking was its smoking because its been run on old/manky/not enough oil. if thats so could make for rattling followers cos they not filling with oil properly. that would save cost of the chains.... tbh tho ur getting near time to change ur chains anyways so worth inspection. wot u do depends on wot u want in long run...... eg if u wanna turbo it one day jus rebuild that engine cos 12v's a tank and easy to extract power from!
-
chains wouldn't make it smoke.......could be followers rattling-think chains last bit longer than that, especially on obd2. crankshaft oil seal and clutch always good to replace while u there if u want. £450 is VERY cheap, think vw quote over a grand. check they use genuine parts cos thats all u should ever use when doing stuff like that
-
ive been wondering this as i was offered a super cheap bora with blown engine not so long ago.......
-
yea standard shocks have that allen key to stop it spinning too
-
yea thats my plan soon....25mm longer solid mount. jus finding the time atm!
-
think it was from a 1.0....year 2000 onwards
-
lifted it enough...i'm using a polo drain plug too-sits flush cos its an allen key head and not a normal bolt type. yea, undo the front mount bolt and throw it away...jack up under the sump enough to slide the 'puck' under and bolt it back together! 5 min job. obv ur new bolt needs to be 25mm longer than the original bolt thats the bolt place http://www.namrick.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2enamrick%2eco%2euk%2fcgi%2dbin%2fss000001%2epl%3fTB%3dA%26GB%3d%26SS%3d12%252e9%26PR%3d%2d1%26PG%3d%26REFPAGE%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww%252enamrick%252eco%252euk%252facatalog%252fHome_M

im using one 25mm 'puck' on the front engine mount. lifted the sump inline with the wishbones so quite a bit. would prob be very VERY close to bonnet id imagine with 3 pucks....but kno its been done so must be ok. i jus used a hi-ten bolt from work...seen a website where u can order the right bolts...will have a dig around and try n find it for ya

How low to take coilovers sensibly?
DanH replied to VR6-DUB's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
jus fit them and have a play. tbh dont think 30mm is very noticable, think if u wind them down 60 u'll still have fair sized arch gap and enough clearence for speedbumps etc. dont kno wot drop mine is but ive had it like this a year now, covered 16000 miles + and its never stopped me doing anything cos its low - it brought 7 people back from manchester once! . jus take speed bumps slower and cringe in multistories! jus start in about the middle, have a drive and let them settle and see wot u think, if u wanna go up or down u might even get away not taking the wheels off to adjust them - when -
if u've always done ur own work then u should be ok, jus double or treble check everything! theres a good guide in the premium members section. wot i used to do mine
-
do u know wot spec it is? obd1 or later obd2? mines same year and got the bigger od2 brakes and the abs, but the early obd1 engine. obd2 conversion is a good next step
-
dont think u need worry about that on here! :-p
-
cool stuff! looks pretty evil too! got any more plans for it?
-
mine had a rattle, re-greased the belt tensioner bearing (try that first - think the guides in the premium member bit?) hoping it would jus be that-were't, so i had a look and the chain tensioner and guide were worn to fudge! so changed them and rattles still there! but 1000000% sure it cam followers now. basically, if like me u dont kno wot ur listening for get someone who knows! cos getting ur chains done is costly. unless u want to tackle it urself, did mine on the street im not a mechanic but tbh its not as hard as people make out. jus double check everything!
-
yea should do....known of donar passats being used for mk2 swaps etc so should all jus bolt straight up. i thought all the mk3 and 'rado boxes the same ratio, bellhousing, mounts etc? sure jus the selector and code that differs on the 'rados. reckon if u comfortable with doing the full auto to manual swap then u'll easily sort any probs along the way! gd luck!
-
oh and timing chains....look if they been done - unless u dont mind changing them. can be expensive if u dont do it urself. did mine at 170,000
-
pah, mileage! mines 176,000 miles and still going strong, original engine etc. jim potters got 183,000+ miles and pushing over 380bhp! ur totally right, u want a well looked after one not a thrashed one off a young driver. driven sensible u get 32mpg+ but service costs are bit more than a normal 4pot motor.
-
lol is this still 3? no more interest?
-
mk5 r32 sumps are alloy as craggsy said, which crack before bending unlike our steel ones...but the the mk5 pickup and a shortend steel sump work nicely. plus engine raisers...basically a 25mm 'puck' under ur front engine mount. only prob with raising engine is it lifts the driveshafts too... im now hitting the chassis leg so a notch is in order...its never ending. even im jus thinking about raising it now. doin my head in! dropped toooooo much oil and been beeched toooo many times its not funny anymore!

has anyone else bought these??? Ebay - bonnet gas struts
