Ok, look at your engine, back right, under the exhaust header is an oval shaped plate with 2 m6 bolts in it. Undo the bolts and remove the plate-its sealed with an o-ring so might need a little persuasion! That is the oil pump drive shaft top bearing/retainer. Inside the hole thats left is the drive shaft that goes down to the oil pump, pull it out and you should see you broken piece in the end. Get someone thats very good with a welder and blob by blob build up enough of a 'stem' so that you can pull the broken piece out. Hope that helps (and you understand it!!) :-)
Could be anything! What colour smoke? When is it smoking? How much is it smoking? When was it serviced last? Has it been looked after-service history? etc...
Do a search mate, been asked alot before, lots of hard work, time, money, it seams like a good idea at the time, but many projects don't get finished....
No, its not quite set up right- the flat shift that is. No need to lift the accel pedal, just hold it down, but i have'nt got it setup right, think it needs to retard the ignition a bit more. But its still work in progress mate :-)
I have read your thread on ukmk4's, its a good read! How come they are 21mm? Are they different pistons? Have you thought about bonnet louvres, or jacking the rear of the bonnet up to allow heat to escape? An oil cooler will help alot if your struggling with the temp, dubpower sell 70deg thermostats-i did have 1 but don't use it as it over cooled on a long journey (motorways), and ran too rich. But might be worth a try!
Yes, because the battery will be flat if the alternator is not charging it. It would cause the 'click' sounds on turning the key to start-as the batt hasn't got enough power to turn the starter. The battery should show 13 to 14v when the engine is running, if the alternator is charging.
