  1. What were you trying to fix by putting a new water pump in?
  2. To wash: Dodo Juice supernatural shampoo-doesn't strip wax Bilberry wheel cleaner Iron X if required- Autosmart Tardis Autosmart G101 apc Polish: Meguiar M205 and M105 via a rotrary polisher Wax: Meguiars nxt wax-nice wet look but doesn't last Collinite 476s-not as deep finish but lasts longer Poorboys wheel wax-few coats and protects the wheels for a season Could be here all day discussing which wax is best!
  3. When I did my rear ABS sensors, I found I was able to line up one of the wheel bolt holes with the sensor and knock it out using a punch. Made life much easier compared to trying to pull it out of the back of the hub.
  4. Meh, glad it was recorded on sky, ended up skipping about half of it. Bored with the star in a car bit who just end up plugging their new film/show/book, but you would never do that would you Clarkson? Found a channel on youtube called /Drive-look for the segement Chris Harris on cars, now he knows how to review cars and be entertaining
  5. Check out the engine number, anything up to number 176889 will have double chains, as has been said, some obd 2 cars could still have this
  6. Usually getting high 90's when everything's nicely warmed up. Don't think 104 is too high a temperature. Could point to an issue with the oil cooler, but couldn't say what exactly
  7. Glad you decided to keep hold of this! Those brakes look shocking, the previous owner must thought having working brakes is over rated! Good luck getting it all sorted, hopefully there isn't too many expensive shockers in store
  8. Looking good, keep us updated. Not sure your engine enjoyed getting the tits ragged out of it as you did in the video!
  9. Windscreen wiper stalk replacement Ever since I bought the car the 'mist' or 'one wipe' function on the stalk was always hesitant to work-the wipers would sometimes stop on the way through their sweep and required a couple of pushes to get the wipers to cycle. This has got worse this month in particular, spreading to other functions on the same stalk including when clearing the windscreen with the washers, the rear wiper would start sweeping. The steering column was stripped down and I got to the wiper stalk and found this on a number of the contacts; I think this was due to the lubri
  10. Hmmmm, there is a chance it could of failed and stuck shut, but in my mind that would be a long shot. Suppose you could whip out the thermostat, run the car up to temperature and see if it warms up properly?
  11. Is the thermostat new? In the past with other golfs, after driving the car/getting it hot I left the reservoir cap off overnight to allow any air in the system out.
  12. Yeah was going to say, replaced the thermostat and all associated plastics/seals and bolts from vw
  13. I've only ever seen the wishbones in black. Try and go for a known brand like Febi bilstein as the quality of those is good. Are you doing both sides? Remember if doing the driver side you'll either need to raise the engine or drop the sump to get access to one of the bolts
  14. I believe this can be caused by the cam chain tensioner-this operates in oil pressure from the engine to tension the chain.
  15. Which bolts do you mean? The ones that attach the housing to the block?
  16. Hella Twins fitted Finally pulled my finger out and carried on working on the Hella's to get them ready for installation. All in only took a couple of hours. Started off with tidying up the wiring; The way I've wired the lamps in they can more easily be replaced as there is now only the feed wires for the bulb going through the rubber grommet. Originally all the wiring went through the grommet which made installation more tricky. Rinse and repeat; Wasn't 100% sure if this is right, so correct me if i'm wrong. The headlamps can be adjusted for right hand drive, and left hand
  17. I picked up a set of leads from eBay for around £40, have been fine since I fitted them a few months ago and cured a misfire I had at similar revs to you.
  18. Make sure you get some sound clips with the decat and manifold, been looking for something to add more of a v6 noise to my Miltek
  19. Was it leaking? Pain in the arse when you get halfway through a job and need more parts!
  20. This is going to be one of my favourite mk3's at this rate Rich! And I thought this was still a family car
  21. I had a little slack between the sprockets when I did mine, never been an issue, done 4000 miles and is all ok.
  22. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've seen the mk4 golf and bora badged with the vr6 logo in the US
