No Way another Phat vr. Has anyone put 4wd from a mk2 rally into a mk3. or has anyone owned both so they know what needs doing in terms of the shell been different. Is it even doable. big job ect???? Sound people

Ah right, Yer that makes alot of sense. Donno if i will be able to control myself that much lol. I like my contry road driving which tends to be very bumpy and I seem to spent half my time in the air or going though big puddles. Prehapes a MK3 VR turbo isnt the car for rallying around!!! More of a track car So out of intrest how many boxs have you been though, What boast do you run at and how much BHP are you pushing. One other thing is how controlable is the boost with a boost controler. Is it possible to go from 250BHP to say 600BHP taking that your engine is built to take it. Cheers

What's wrong with my brakes?
Phat VR6 replied to Zonda_'s topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Yep MK3 brakes are shit hot. Doesnt matter how fast your going even 100 - 110mph + if you slam them on there going to lock. Seems silly the little tiny brakes at the back would lock before the big fuckers at the front. I realy carnt understand why VW would make it like that but there you go. Ive done it once now and learnt so it shouldn't be happing again (he says ) So hows everyone getting though there MOTs with out any ABS??? -
What's wrong with my brakes?
Phat VR6 replied to Zonda_'s topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Yer sorry mate your right. Wasn't thinking strate when i wrote that I think the reason the backs locked on mine before the front was the fact i had drilled discs, green stuff pads and goodyear hoses on the back but compleaty standard on the front (waiting for pads to wear out and just plane lazy) If thats the case just shows how much better all that stuff inproves the brakes. After I fitted the fronts I'll lock them again to find out ifs its my ABS or not -
No trolly jack!!!! You beast lol. Which mount did you go for comp or street???? I went for comp, engine vibration increasted when decelerating but was sound when booting it. I wasn't exspecting it but the car felt more together and when round corner alot better when driving hard. Nice inprovement, well impressed P.S want porsche brakes

Which Clutch + Flywheel?!!
Phat VR6 replied to Charged vr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I didnt think and got a cheep shitty clutch from GFS. Although i carnt tell the difference tbf. Cars only got about 190bhp though My car had done 142,000 when i change the cluch due to my diff coming though my casing causing oil to piss everywhere. Cluch still looked good and drove good with about 2mm left before the rivits. -
So what i want to do to my box so i never have to touch it again is 3.68 final drive, peloquin diff, and a full gearbox rebuild!!! Is there anythink else you would recomend while the box is in bits, Can you heattreat the gears or make them stronger in anyway. Ive hurd turbos kill 3rd gear???? Oh and has anyone on hear changed there final drive themselfs as in with out getting a gearbox rebuilter to do it for them. cheers people

Yep fair play. Cars looking mint. Is that roll cage just for show or would it offer protection if you rolled it? Where did you get it from and how much Cheers Tom -
yep saves the hassle. TT wheels look wicked on mk3s btf, Fair play

I would change the rear bearings at the same time as you have to hammer the bearing races out of the dics/hub arangment (very very anoying) and even more so if you have to do it all again if the bearing fails.

Surport engine/box with trolly jack Undo bolt that goes into mount (think its a 16mm). Undo 3 13mm bolts that hold braket onto gearbox. Undo 2 15mm bolts that hold mount onto subframe. Remove mount then replace with new. reasemble the way you removed it takes around one / two hours I think the mounts about £50 from VW but get a uprated viber teckincs one while your there

Ha Ha. Yep what you say is very very true (but i want one anyway lol ) Prehaps I should put one in the boot aswell for some 4wd traction!!! IN MY DREAMS!! Dont surpose anyones put 4wd in a Mk3 say from a mk2 rally or 4 motion? I was planning on having a boost controler and running it around 250-300bhp when using on the street then turning the boost up when i want to blow a Porche, BMW M3 or take it on the track. But having never owned a turbo i dont know how much control a boast controler gives you. Think about how much petrol it will be burning :@

What's wrong with my brakes?
Phat VR6 replied to Zonda_'s topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Have you ever had to hit the brakes hard enuff to lock them on a track???? I should imagine that you just slowing for a corner. Not trying to come to a standstill before you blow some traffic lights on red. lol -
How do I know when my timing chains / guides are worn?
Phat VR6 replied to VR6Pete's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
Is it only OBD1 engines with twin chains that you have to worry about or are the later OBD2 single chains engines just as lighty fail. Mines OBD2 has 140 000 and was making a slight noise but i changed it anyway when doing the headgasket. -
Going to do it my self. Ive just put new chains, ARP bolts (head, Rods, Mains) and a metal headgasket on it. The head gasket rasies compression to 10. 5:1 as im still driving it around standard. I was planning and running low boost on this set up and then when the time comes to raise the boost slap some uprated rods and 8.5 low compression JE pistions in it. Just waiting for some cash. I wasnt going to buy a kit. Just buy bits as i went along. e.g Mainfold, 2.5" Downpipe, Turbo, 38mm Waste gate, Intercooler, Piping. Then when its time for seirous boost. Add, Rods, Pistions, DTA ECU, Injecto

Hello. You mention lengthy labour on RHD cars. You dont have to chop things about to get it to fit do you?? Whats makes the install more difficult?? Cheers
-
Dont want to scare you but have you got oil pressure lol
-
Might sound silly but it could be your exhaust knocking on the cross member in the middle of the car due to perrished exhaust rubbers New hangers or polly hangers will fix it but i used some welding wire to give it some more clearnce and it worked a treat.

Ive had mine on the lazer type 4 wheel aliment. Which told me the tracking was bady out on the rear. Ive ashumed that the rear axal bushs where bady worn because i also got a nocking noise from the rear end when chucking it round fast corners. The noise changed sides depending on which way i was turning. The axal looks like it isnt bent but is it possible that i have damaged stub axals? The reason i say this is because i have fitted new bearning when changing the discs and cannot seem to remove the play from them nomatter how tight i do the center nuts. My cars also on coilovers. I feel that
-
Mine where longer and i cut mine down 23mm long. Make sure there aslong the old ones and become flush with the carryer so they dont make contact with the disc. I used a 2mm washer as well and abit of lock tight is always nice

What's wrong with my brakes?
Phat VR6 replied to Zonda_'s topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Ha Ha. Funny you should say that. Ive had my rear brakes lock before the fronts did which ended up in some high speed sidways action. Which was fun but abit lairy. This has happend when the ABS light is on and not flickering and i havent pulled a fuse or anythink. Are you talking about the load valve on the rear axal. My Mk3 has one but doesnt have any eletric wiring or plugs on it. I havent owned or been under a MK2. It might be easyer to just fix my ABS but if its not too exspensive or complicated to make it safe to use without ABS then i would like to do so. This MK2 load valve your on abo
