  1. mk vr is on coilies and it dont look like that. but i ran a mk4 escort with the tops like that for about 4 years. and it never failed an mot.
  2. if ur not running aircon then there is no need to worry. i got a brown one but since i dont have aircon there is no need for it. if it bothers you go to vag or ebay and get a blanking plug
  3. now ya just showing off lol but as soon as i can get the funds i'll give u a shout. i'll probably be getting an older cab to make the swap easier and probably have to butcher my vr for parts so everything will be there, would it not be easier to just rip out the entire loom and swap em or is that being silly?

  5. in all honesty how hard is this conversion? im no mechanic but dont mind having a bash, but complete engine out with wiring loom replacement and mucking about with peddle box's is a little out of my legue. i got a possible donor vr lined up for 500 quid and just need to source a half sensible cab. wanna go for higher spec trim like leathers and what not, probably see if i can find one with a blown engine or something
  6. i had a similar problem, it turned out to be sticking sliders on the calipers, these are 20 mins a side to pull out clean up and re-grease with copper slip then put back together, but check the little bellows for splits as they will just let in water and ruin ya hard work
  7. alex its totally up to u, if you think u can make it work then go for it, ive heard of these conversions being done and being succesfull. i started looking into it a while ago but decided against it when the motor took a sicky on me and wiped out my funds
  8. out of curiosity why would u need to swap the rear axle? i can understand the front end shocks arb's blah blah blah but why the rear? i've also been thinking about this as the misses wants a ragtop but i cant not have a vr engine in my life lol

  10. that looks like mild steel, stainless shouldnt do that. thats the point of it. it can be patch repeired but if the metal is bad along the entire length welding it will just make it worse. use some gun gum and a little bit of tin can as a plate. gum it up stick the tin plate to it and gumm it again. GUN GUM......A BODGERS BEST FRIEND
  11. jack it up. remove the clamp (13mm spanner) put a bit of exhaust assembly/repair paste on the joint and slid it back in, then do up the clamp and job done. ten mins work if the clamp aint shagged. 10 quids work if u need a clamp and assembly paste.
  12. does any one know where i can get one for my vr? i can find the 2x2 lead on ebay to convert an obd2 code reader, would this work? and are the codes the same? or is it possible to get a basic vagcom from somewhere? maybe download it and use my spare laptop. only aking as i still have an issue with the car idling at about 600rpm and then diving to 200rpm and stalling, and i cant warrant paying a garage for a one off when i can buy a fault code reader and figure it all out myself

  15. best bet is to make up the kit yourself and get a down pipe custom made. unless you don't mind waiting a little longer for the C2 kit this question has prob been asked a million times but what are the basics needed for a turbo set up bar the manifold? im just after a small power gain to start with and get it on the road and will build up as and when funds permit to higher power. basically what turbo would i need? can i rob one from another car like a scooby or rs turbo.

  19. supprisingly i see 27mpg up to london the other day lol. im hopefully doing the exhaust monday so thats that off the list. does anyone know where i can get an obd1 code reader/remover, even ebay dont list any, just the adaptor cable to use on an obd2 reader

  21. why is it these things always land on my standby week at work? it done it all last year and i can bet the rest of the season does exactly the same again this year.
  22. craggsy.. first thing i tried was isv, this was practically scrubbed clean and moves very smoothly. i also used carb cleaner to clean the sounderbox thingy it connects to, then fitted new clips and also fitted em to pipes that never had em before just to be sure. thanks gordon, recently checked pump and its not dying when the revs dive and pick up again. but will replace that relay since it didnt do it before the prob started and certainly shouldnt be clicking like a cricket on coke.
