    Ok so I changed the oil and filters on the VR today and now it doesn't start, it fires for a second and then dies. The battery's been disconnected for a while which I guess might have helped cause the problem? Anyway on VAG-COM it shows 17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer & 01177 - Engine Control Unit - 65 - 10 Unauthorised - Intermittent So the immob has obviously decided I'm not allowed to run the car. From what I've read my options are; 1) Replace the reader coil (Maybe faulty) 2) Have the Immob on the ECU defeated (anyone know how much? United motorsport maybe?) 3) Recod

    I had my old mk2 VR done years ago at the lion garage northampton, it needed the head alloy welding too because it was so far gone and it was around £600 if that helps give you a guide. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    You can easy enough see the gearbox mount and they make a mess when gone so you should easy be able to see if that's failed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    I had a similar thing on my old mk2 VR. Int he end it'd start fine in the morning then when I left work would take a minute of cranking to start. Turned out to be blue temp sender. HTH Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
