  1. Very funny - had to watch half the others on there too!
  2. Thanks for the words of support peeps. Today's update: I went to the bodyshop after a call saying my car was ready to collect and I'm sure you can guess the rest... but for those who can't - the gritty; The scratch down the left side they tried unsucessfully to buff out leaving a 3 inch wide band of swirls. The door with the fine scratches now looks like somebody's taken sandpaper to it and left it at that... I guess you can't see the fine scratches anymore. *cough* idiots! *cough* The rear bumper with the fine scratches in the fresh paint hasn't been touched. The dull patch they left has most
  3. Yes, fortunately they inspect the car and mark any damage, scratches, paint issues on a sheet before taking it. One side is for accident related damage the other is for non-related damage. Also, a big patch of the scratching is in the newly painted repaired bit! I'm also wary of trusting anything to anybody else, I may be a little picky but usually the screwups are way beyond that.
  4. Is now an appropriate time to cry? The man brought back my VR on the truck today and I had to send it back. It went in with a small impact/scuff on the rear arch and scrape onto the bumper on the offside and I'd asked a small rust spot to be done at the same time. It came back, with scuffs and scratches on the bumper (in the fresh paint!)another patch of scuffing on the trailing edge of the o/s door (looks like it's been through a thorn bush), a scrape on the petrol cap, 2 parking door type wounds on the drivers door from what seems to be a white car, a clearcoat scrape on the top of the dri
  5. I'm enjoying Most Wanted at the moment, only got it recently and I can max it out settings wise - Carbon looks a bit steep on requirements!
  6. I should be getting my VR back tomorrow. Praying they did an unseeable repair - otherwise I'm sending it back.
  7. Ah yes, we have one of those in stockport and I used to buy my paint for touch-ups and scratches there but I haven't seen it open for ages. Good that I can order online though, didn't know that was an option.
  8. I decided to paint them when I get chance, nothing can shift the crud so I'll sand it down and paint them. After that, yeah - definately need some sealant on there. I'd like them to look like SankysVR6's solitudes in his sig - very nice.
  9. lol - it doesn't seem to do much when I put my foot down, must be damn heavy.
  10. Mine's my daily runner storing it for the winter isn't an option but it's probably not as nice on the outside as yours. You must have a big garage too!
  11. I'm sick of trying to clean them and the laquers flaking in a few places too so I've decided to paint my wheels. I'd like to keep them silver but want a bright silver, maybe with a little pearl in it - something subtle but a bit different. I've got a HVLP wagner kit so I can get a decent finish but can anybody recommend an online paint supplier? I was toying with using an enamel for durability instead of an acrylic or 2 pack synthetic, anybody got any recomendations on that? They're the BBS solitudes btw.
  12. Sigh - my VR is in for repairs atm after I was tagged yet again by another careless driver. This one was on phone via a headset in a right turn lane, signalling right then decided to turn left without looking. After crossing the spare lane between us and me desperately trying to accelerate out of his path he caught my rear arch and bumper. I reckon he'd have t-boned me if I hadn't floored it. Just a glancing blow in the end and now I'm stuck with a rental Astra, dammit I thought they'd have worked out how to make decent cars in the last 10 years! Had a Micra first day as it was short notic
  13. I took one of the wheels off last weekend to have a go. I tried WD-40 which after much soaking "softened" it enough that I could scratch it off - that would take 2 days though! I'll try some of the other suggestions this weekend if the weather is suitable. Some of the laquer isn't good in places so I might just rub them down and re-paint/laquer 1 wheel at a time, I bet I could have done 2 by now. I've got the BBS solitudes so they're reasonably easy to get at for working on.
  14. Hopefully I'll be able to make it and will try to help out, I'll have to see nearer the time.
  15. Since I bought the car I've never been able to remove all the crud off the wheels. It's black dots/patches with some beer coloured ceneral staining. I decided to have a go this weekend at finally removing it now I can work on my driveway without dodging traffic. I've not been able to make much progress, all the baked on brake dust has been removed but the above stuff (tar I guess) I just can't shift. I've tried: Wonder wheels, scrubbing, meths, t-cut and Mer (which I always found good at removing tar from bodywork with it's orange oils). Nothing even brings ANY of the colour off onto a cl
  16. There's a lot of really good polishes, waxes and sealants available these days for not massive amounts. Jeffs I have heard of but it's fairly new to the UK I think - German I think? Polished Bliss are a good supplier though, nice to deal with very helpful. I can definately recommend using clay on your car, it's amazing how much crud you will drag out of your paintwork. Just use a non abrasive one (such as quick clay) for removing embedded crud without risk of damaging your paintwork. (There are some bodyshop intensive ones that aren't suitable for "normal" use). Or even use white tack, you
  17. I've used Ultraglaze which is a gimmicky "5 year" paint sealant. I don't expect it to shine like some of the shorter term waxes or synthetics, or even last as long as 5 years. I just wanted something to seal the paintwork against water as I don't have a lot of time at the moment to spend cleaning my car. I've actually been pleasantly suprised - it beads water like a fresh wax but lasts and seems to shrug off dirt, the car is normally cleaner for longer now. The shine is good, but I'm sure there is better but as an overall product for the price it's a bargain. The only slight down side it th
  18. Just like to say how good it was to meet you all and put faces to names. Can't quite remember which go together a week later though. Enjoyed the show apart from the deperate cleaning to get it half way repectable for the stand... I had to admit defeat with the wheels though! Now I have a driveway (and I've finally found the box my detailing kit was packed in) I'll be a bit more prepared next time. 8-|
  19. Same as the others re the lights and the mirrors but otherwise if it drives ok and the engine seems sound it's not a lot of money. Black highline's are a personal favorite too.. <<<<<
  20. I'll finally be able to wash my car without jumping out of the way of traffic!
  21. Yes, you should be able to choose when you go I think it's a basic human right... then again, it's always open to abuse so I can see the other side too.
  22. I was stuck in a rut about 10 years ago when my previous career path hadn't worked out and I ended up just working to pay the bills. It was hard work but I'd always had an aptitude for computers so I studied a lot, passed a few exams and got started in the business. It's still a growth area but not as hot as it used to be, if you want to work in an office AND have an interest in computers, there are plenty of home study courses, PM me for suggestions... If you don't fancy that, then the traditional trades do pay well like squirrel said and you'll always be able to make money. Plumbing/heati
  23. Well, contracts are exchanged and Friday is moving day. Saturday I'm leaving for Inters, how's that for poor timing? Unfortunately I won't be able to give my car a full fettling before the show but I'm just glad to be moving tbh. I've got everything crossed at this point!
