  1. Let's face it, most of us probably didn't buy the VR6 simply beacuse it was a 'quick car'. I think most of us knew what to expect and it's about image as much as performance, if not more so for some. Most of us of us have owned other performance cars, some far quicker than the VR but the whole VW scene is something quite different, just look at the Mk2 GTi and the MK1s also. The VW scene is attracting new enthusiasts every day and dare I say it, they come from the 'nicer' side of life, people who appreciate and recognize the quality and excellent value for money that these cars provide. Golfs,
  2. Luck of the draw I suppose. I have heard all of these arguments (except for the diesel oil) from mechanics and enthusiasts alike and all of them make theoretical sense. I have tried Wynns engine flush once before and it didn;t make much of a difference. the last two oil changes have been with Synta Silver and although the engine's no quieter she run's better and the oil seems that much cleaner. lol perhaps it was the engine flush
  3. It it has an ECU, I don;t see why not
  4. Mine's a 97 with 80k and no sign of deterioration. The original zorst was in excellent conidition too and would have lasted many a good long if I hadn't replaced it with the stainless item Nerih (apologies to everyone else for deviating) have you sorted your charger yet? I remember the noise was becoming an issue? Whats sort of noise are we talking about anyway?
  5. Anyone want to give me a hand changing my my timing chain tensioner?
  6. I thought the ebay add said it had stamped SH with independant garages? (sorry, couldn't get back in to re-read) Nothing wrong with this if they have followed the service schedule. In reality, frequesnt oil and oil filter changes are the more important factor. With
  7. That's not a bad colour. I was told that on some forums when I bought my Dragon Green VR but plenty of others seem to have it and those that have seen it, like it...
  8. I always worry about recon engines. I've heard so many bad things about them. The quality (apparantly) recon VR6 engines cost around
  9. I'ts to do with the gap in the lead holders (along the top of the rocker/top cover) if the leads are too fat you will need to file the lips down to hold the lead in place.
  10. Sheeeeet! You're a brave man %-6
  11. My last conversation with Stealth saw an estimate of
  12. Good question Buzzark. I suspect the latest chargers don't run such high boost levels and the software is that much better, that's just my guess. But you're right, a few years back the mention of a TB or SC meant extensive head work, new pistons and a reduction in compression. Perhaps further trial and error or R&D showed that modern or certain engines were better able to cope as standard. Anyone else?
  13. Insurance man? The insurance paid our for a blown engine?!

    WHATS FASTER

lol I said that too The main thing is that we all seem to agree and yes, I was referring to the Ford
  15. Raj at Nik Saran racing told me that the VR6 powerplant and gearbox (with standard clutch) will handle up to 300bhp no problem. Best people to speak to would be NS Racing (Nik Saran) and Stealth Racing. What these guys don't know (if anything) isn't worth knowing.
  16. Sorry if this sounds a little too simple guys but could it be the throttle body? Mine was doinf the same a few months back and still does occasionaly until I take a clean rag and some carb cleaner to the intake. I havn't removed the TB (I don;t have the time) but a quick clean inside every now and then seems to do the trick. Mine's an ODB2 so no ISV.

    WHATS FASTER

It's a different kind of driving experience but a rewarding one. Sure you can fit larger turbos, raise the boost, chip them to hell drive them on the edge but how long will they last? The VR can handle sustained high revs. There's also the image problem that cars like the RST suffer. If you're simply interested in speed then there's an array of machines out there from the RST to cars like the Nissan 300 twin turbo which although great and not much money to buy will keep your credit cards loaded. The VR (Golf) is a great all rounder that still offers respectable performance whilst being surpris

    WHATS FASTER

Yeah, and mine can beat yours, no problem
  19. Sorry to hear that mate... Plenty around at decent prices
  20. lol as does dump valve... a guy that lived on my road had one with one mutha of a blow off valve on it, it sounded like concorde %-6

    WHATS FASTER

I would agree that it depends on whoose behind the wheel. All the BHP, torque and driver aids can't mask a poor driver. Whilst some drivers have the knack of making whatever they drive fly... I have found the VR competes well against most hot hatches if driven properly but that's the key here 'driven properly'. Many drivers really have no clue about power bands, torque and the rev range of their car and so plant their right foot and rip through each gear and completly miss that all important torque curve.
  22. Nerih, I'm not far from you, live in West London, parents in North West and I work in Soho. I'm tempted to get an SC for mine but barely get away with noise my zorst makes. lol My parents live in a quiet leafy green road in Queens Park where as you say, porsches and the like are parked. Spent the night there and when I started mine this morning curtains began to twitch and I consider mine quiet !amazed I don't think I would want anything that made much more noise than it does already. Be good to meet up with you for a sound check and a demo some time
