Engine Rebuild, - Spacer Gasket.
vr6turbo replied to Veedubbed's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
if you are going low compression i would reccommend fitting low compression pistons, I did alot of research on this subject and came to the conclusion that to do it properly you need to fit low comp pistons, here is a link to ebay for a real bargin,JE pistons as you may well know are first class and usually very expensive, I wish these were for sale when i did my conversion, if stealth did a low comp engine he would use JE, I know because i asked vince for a price to build a turbo engine if you are going ahead with the rebuild then why not do it the right way and have less worries about cylind -

I had the same problems, mine turned out to be a fuse blown on the relay which feeds the hydraulic unit 30amp i think :! this is under the dash drivers side above the fuse box i went to vw for the wiring diagrams which they photocopied hope this solves at least half of your problems

for sure they are exactly the same the only difference between the 2.8 amd2.9 engines are the bore size

VW do oversized bearings in .25 increments if you look at etka it shows 2 sizes part numbers standard 021 198 491A .25 under sized 021 198 493 these are crank main bearings etka does not show part numbers for con rod bearings you will have to contact your dealer. as far as regrinding a crank and using it for a big turbo conversion i do not know if the crank would break. I have never heard of a vr6 crank breaking, EIP tuning have a obd1 vr6 turbo that ran over 600hp on a standard crank it may be worth asking them. www.eiptuning.com they are based in the USA. hope this helps

put it on a rolling road and check out how the a/f is being managed then if the a/f is correct and the engine is not throwing any codes i would look at restriction in the exhaust system ie cat has disloged its core and is retricting the exhaust flow long shot but worth checking its all i can think of not having any experinece with mk iV's if the engine is running at the right air fuel ratio and the vagcom is showing clean there are not alot of options left good luck keep us posted
