Stealth Racing Seasonal Offer
FishWick replied to FishWick's topic in Parts, Suppliers and Companies
Post edited with correct phone number, doh! Just when I think I'm getting somewhere with my car, the heater matrix decides to blow and it had to do it over winter didn't it?! Oh well, Stealth's offer to the rescue then! I'll be removing the dashboard myself and taking it up to Vince and then leaving it there for a week whilst he carries out a number of chores for me, including a conversion to full OBD2 :-) -
For the washers, I'm afraid I don't have time to be middle man, sorry. I don't come on here often as I'd like to. Username Daves16v on the corrado forum makes the 6mm spacers (www.the-corrado.net) so it would be best to speak to him directly and he can then post them out to you. Bolts - Most hardware suppliers (not B&Q!) can supply them. I got mine from a mate who happened to a buy a load of them from his local hardware place. Discs - I just used Audi plain jobbies. Here's a link to a 312 thread on the Corrado forum and there are pics of my installc, but it's dead easy, about an hou

Just to let you know guys, Vince has authorised me to post up an offer he is currently doing. Until the end of November there will be 10% off performance parts (exhausts, filters, suspension etc etc) and no VAT on labour (

Could be the fuel pump getting tired and not supplying enough motion potion at the top end. You seem to have done everything else, so I'd look there next. I take it it's not had any head work at all recently? Just thinking if the cam timing is a tooth out you'll lose a lot of power and it will run hot.

OK, the hand made 6mm spacers are

Yep the crank sensor is

Why do you need 2.5" in order for the supercharger to flow properly? It's not a turbo...the turbine blades won't stall, it's crank driven. If anything, the biggest restriction on a charged Corrado VR is OBD1. Sort the mapping and running out first and then worry about exhausts. I have a standard Corrado system on mine and it's plenty good enough, they're not as restrictive as people think. Milltek do do a 2.5" system by the way, you just need to ask for it. 2.5" will make the engine feel slightly flatter low down due to the gas speeds slowing down. On boost you might feel a small benefit

quick spark plug questions
FishWick replied to fritzenberg's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Oh and the plug socket you need is 10mm, not 12 as previously stated. -
Yeah all Corrado VR6s are OBD1, certainly in the UK at least. 95 on Corrados did get the Transponder and MAF elements of OBD2 though, but the fuelling etc was still OBD1. The best tool for reading codes is VAG-COM and a laptop. www.ross-tech.com

quick spark plug questions
FishWick replied to fritzenberg's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
You don't need to gap those plugs, they're preset. I think they're set to 0.8, which is right. 12mm rings a bell for the plug socket. -
Yeah the 288 and TT calipers are identical. Yes 312s fit behind 16s. I got my Ferodos from www.balancemotorsport.co.uk and they cost
-
That's what a I use, good choice. Mine has 122K on it and since switching to that (from Synta) oil consumption has halved.
-
Wheel clearance won't, or shouldn't be a problem because when the 312s are fitted, they sit 6mm further inboard than the standard 280/288 setup. Put it this way, if you wheels currently clear the 280/288 setup (and solitudes do, just) then you won't have a problem with the 312s. Incidentally, if you already have a 95-98 VR6 with the 288s, all you need for this conversion is carriers and discs, which are

Good post Antera. You've highlighted the biggest differences in pic N. You can see why the Euro 2.9 is so sort after in the US looking at that. Eurospec do a copy manifold buy cutting out the arrowed bits and plating over the top to give the same plenum area as manny E. E is the better manny for FI too. OBD2 manny is the same as E but OBD2 also has the stepper motor throttle. As for the injection, all coilpack VR6s have cylinder selective timing and sequential injection.

I use Silkolene Pro S 10W/50 in mine and won't use anything else. As far as full synths go, and this is ester - the best you can get, it's good value at

I've got a SuperSprint bypass on mine hooked up to the standard exhaust and there's no extra noise at all, but that's because it's a proper expansion box rather than a straight through pipe. Another option is to remove the cat, bash out the cells and refit it, but there's no guarantee it'll remain quiet....but at least it will still be a cat, externally, come MOT day.

Checked your plugs? I recommend NGK iridium BKR6EIX on charged VRs. The standard NGK BKRE5UP platinums are OK but they don't last long. Alternatively Golf 16V Bosch triple electrodes are good (also 6 heat rating), as are Audi S3 plugs.

Did they ever do a corrado in obc2?
FishWick replied to The1andonlygav's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Late Corrados with factory immobilisers utilised the OBD2 film MAF and CP ECU, but the fuelling & diag reporting was OBD1. Pre 95 Corrados all have AG ECUs and hot wire MAFs. For a Shrek manny, you need OBD1 for the Corri as the OBD2 Shreks have a different throttle adapter plate for the OBD2 stepper motor'd TB. -
For VR6 S/C, the standard BKRE5UP plats are fine, or Golf 16v plugs or NGK Iridium BKRIE6X (both 6 grade temp rating, 1 cooler than standard). If you use the iridiums, make sure the gap is 0.28.

Vibratech fast road are the mutts. I have VT front and rear and a MK3 diesel solid rubber gearbox mount and they keep my stage 2 charged motor still with no increased vibration. Avoid VFE poly ones, they're crap. too much vibration. Well, you can get away with a front one as the cross member is rubber mounted so has a lot of flex, just don't use two VFEs.
-
If the throttle has a stepper motor in it and no idle valve, it's OBD2, otherwise OBD1. OBD2 Golfs were the very late ones, so unlikely your M is OBD2.

Quantum is Castrol in a different container and will mix with most other oils, except ester based full synths. I recommend Silkolene Pro S 10W/50 full synth in the VR. Good prices from Oilman on the Corrado forum. It's a full ester based 100% synth (ester is an aero jet engine lubricant) and is the best I've tried to date. 20L for

6 branch insulation, wrap or heat shield?
FishWick replied to vr6madforit's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
The idea of wrapping is to help the header retain heat, not reduce bay temps. Stainless doesn't retain heat as well as cast iron and it's the heat of the manifold that pulls spent gases out of the cylinders, so you want to keep that manny lagged, especially over winter.
