  1. Hi, Going to replace the Haldex filter and oil but also want to change the main diff oil, can someone let me know what grage of diff oil they use? Would Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W 140 do the trick just that i have some of this already for the motorbike, also what qty is required? Thanks for any help. Mark
  2. Cheers for that, so was speaking to the lad that had the car before and he had the oils all changed about 3years ago so hopefully its not bad. I will give it a change anyway, what i heard of it running the engine sounded ok no rattles but will get a better feel when i get it home.
  3. Been a while since i had my VR6 Highline but im delving into the VR6 ownership once again. This time im going to be diving in deep against every bit of sane guidance and going to buy a 2001 4motion with no service history and i havent even driven it, however for the price im willing to take the punt. I know i know off my head but bugger it if its a total shed then i wont have lost much by scrapping it. Hopefully i can save it and have another one avoid the crusher. Car has covered 112K its been buggered around with its on coilovers cheap ones, it looks decent no oil leaks, oil seems de
  4. Well guys time to sign out, the highline was put to the scrappers with the scrappage scheme. Now i know you will all be disgusted but im affraid i managed to run it into a field and scratched every panel on the car. So when the chance came up to get £3.5K for the car i could not let it pass. Anyway its not a new golf but a Seat leon so still in the family. Its been a great site to pick up hints and tips. So wishing you all the best Cheers Mark
  5. OOPs this all sounds expensive. Hopefully its going to be cheap.
  6. Ok, stupid bugger that i am i managed to clobber a kerb last night with the car on the passenger side and now the two front wheels don't point the same direction. The steering is still fine just that if you point the drivers wheel dead ahead and look at the passenger wheel its out by about 15 degrees. So what causes this? Is it relatively cheap to repair or is it very bad?? The font wheel got a fair clunk. Cheers
  7. Cheers, But its the size i am after. If i bought from those boys the caps would have cost more than the wheels :-) Think its 57mm centre caps for these.
  8. Just picked up a set of Audi TT comps for my golf and they dont have any centre caps on them. Does anyone know the size that they are so i can order some off ebay? Are the TT comps made by BBS? if anyone knows of a link to the caps i need it would be very much appreciated. Cheers Mark
  9. More info, tonight whilst out i found that its more likely a wheel bearing as it is there when i let the car free wheel, also its more prominent when the steering is turned slightly to the right so which one is it likely to be?? Any ideas?
  10. Cheers for the responses. RCF the noise is in all gears and it would appear to be at around 35mph and in any gear, also its happens although not as apparent at around 60mph. It does go if the speed decreases and this only needs to fall by a couple of miles an hour. No it doesn't seem to change tone as the speed increases or decreases. If i am sitting at 35mph and press the clutch it disappears, but i have tried to take the speed to 40mph then engage the clutch so that it slows down and has to pass through 35mph but it does not seem to make the noise. Very strange. Also its not really got an
  11. Any ideas the car seems to have a strange whine when you are cruising along at around 35mph and in gear. Press the clutch in and it goes, i have tried to take the speed upto around 40 and let it cruise and i dont seem to hear it any ideas?? I was thinking wheel bearing but now i am thinking pulley or something as it seems to be only when driving. Any thoughts much appreciated.
  12. Well the guarantee is only valid if you were the original purchaser and if you have the receipt, what a load of shit! They can easily tell by simply looking at it that its there unit. So beware. Anyway bought a replacement section and fitted it tonight what a bastard of a job, was a nightmare to split the middle section. Anyway a few hours later and lots and lots of swearing its done and sounds sweet now.
  13. Mine used to go as high as 112 but that was prior to me working out that the water pump was goosed. Once replaced same as you never above 94 unless thrashed!
  14. Hi All, Been absent for a while been away with work and have just come back and found that the car has a blow on the exhaust. Now had the car on the pit and can see that its a scorpion stainless exhaust system (which i think have a lifetime guarantee) from the cat back, the leak is coming from the welds where the pipe enters the intermediate box on the tailpipe side. Now i dont have a receipt for the exhaust but if i was to remove the intermediate box and send it to them will they repair it. Question is would scorpion repair without the receipt? I mean there name is stamped onto both the re
