  1. The only problem I had with mine was a small exhaust leak where the system joins to the back of the cat. Rotating the retaining clamp through 90 degrees sorted it. After doing this, it's been perfect. The Milltek is actually a very quiet system, so if yours is noisy it's either defective or has been badly fitted.
  2. I remember seeing your car at E38 and noticing that the power steering transfer pipe was the only thing that hadn't been polished. I guess that's everything now then!
  3. How about doing a cat replacement pipe on its own?
  4. So where is this convoy meeting up? Although the M40 is quicker for me (I'm going from High Wycombe), getting to see loads of nice VRs on the move is worth taking the long way round!
  5. Is there anyone going up there (Sunday morning) from the High Wycombe/Marlow/Beaconsfield area?
  6. In the old Calibra 16v 4x4 I had, you could switch it to FWD only just by pulling a fuse. Is it not possible to do this with the Golf Syncro?
  7. If your mpg is coming out as low as that, don't rule out a fuel leak.
  8. Yes, all Corrados are OBD1. Early ones (pre-1993 I think) have a distributor, later ones have a coilpack, same as the OBD1 Golf VR6. If your current 2.8 engine and the 2.9 you're putting in are both OBD1 coilpack type, all you need to swap is the ECU and the engine itself. You can use your existing wiring loom. If going from a 2.8 coilpack to 2.9 distributor, you need to swap in the the engine wiring loom from the donor car.
  9. I'm likin' those seats!! Engine install looks good too. Nice one!!
  10. Probably due to noise regulations. It would make it very loud. Would it gain you much power anyway? - the cat is more restrictive than the rest of the system put together.
  11. The bodywork is finally finished. New front bumper is on. Here's some pics taken today. Haven't had the chance to fully clean it yet:

Windows XP MCE 2005 is a pretty good front end, everything works off the special remote control (although you can use a touchscreen as well if desired). As regards mounting, you should be able to pick up a few tips on mp3car.com . A false floor in the boot, with the laptop bolted to the MDF with insulator mounts, would be a good solution. Be sure to use a well shielded VGA/S-Video cable and avoid routing it near any electric motors as these kick out loads of interference. Mounting your amp(s) next to the laptop should be OK.

The great thing about car PCs is that you can add to the functionality over time. Start with DVD, MP3, MP4 & AVI playback, then you can add: - Internet over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/3G mobile phone - Sat Nav - In car VAG-COM diagnostics - Electronic instrumentation - Rear view cameras The list is pretty endless. You will never get bored in a traffic jam again!!!! Major Kudos at shows too. Add a dinky wireless keyboard with the casing sprayed in body colour... You get the idea!! You'll find that the fun bit about setting up your system is getting the laptop to shut down/hibernate automatical

I've been wanting to do this for some time. Will probably do it on my next car. Apparently, the next version of Windows has a 5-second start-up, which will make it more suitable for in-car setups than Windows XP is. Or maybe you are planning to use Linux? A lot of people have had success with this. There are some nice front-ends out there for both O/Ss The only other problem in the Mk3 is the lack of a good location for a fixed LCD screen. The centre console is a bit too low down to be accessible. The ideal solution is a pop-out touchscreen monitor, which mounts in the standard DIN stere
  15. Nice!! - I've always liked those. Those Fiat twin cam engines sound lovely!! You did well finding one that isn't just a pile of rust!!!!
  16. I use EBC Greenstuff pads and recommend them highly - they come covered with a special bedding in compound that cuts down on squeaks etc. They bite well and the wear rate isn't too bad. I buy them from here: http://www.performancebrakes.co.uk/ They used to offer a discount for VR6OC members, not sure if they still do, but their prices are good.
  17. Apparently, the part of the gearbox likely to give way after going turbo/supercharged is the diff. For 300BHP a standard gearbox rebuild using an uprated diff should be fine. Speak to the guys at Stealth Racing as they are #1 in the UK when it comes to VW transmissions.
  18. I just checked and there doesn't seem to be any leakage from the feed & return pipes.
  19. A load of us on the VWVortex forum recently had a discussion on how the Eos would look good as a hard-top coupe, and it looks like VW are actually gonna do it! It should be considerably lighter than the Eos, therefore quicker!! With the 2.0T engine and DSG it will be a serious machine. The new Audi TT is getting the 2.0T too, though.... With the BMW Z4 looking dated the day it came out, these are gonna be THE coupes!!! (Stuttgart metal aside)
  20. Thanks, I'll take another look, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't see a julbilee clip round the fuel pump itself. Is it under that black ring?:
  21. There's only one crosshead screw and this isn't enough to stop the disk from "flopping about" on the hub spigot.
  22. I'm getting fuel leaking from the top of the fuel tank or something above it. Fuel dribbles down the left-hand side of the tank and onto the floor. This only happens when I fill the tank right up. If I only half-fill the tank, the problem never occurs. It could be the seal around the fuel pump (the pump was recently replaced, and I'm sure a new seal wasn't used), but is there anything else it could be?
