  1. Could be a bent track rod. Is the steering wheel sraight when driving in a straight line?
  2. Yeah, this is London. I'm surprised the whale didn't get GATSO'd half a dozen times on its trip up the Thames, then get a parking ticket slapped on it when it died.
  3. I must admit, I am swaying towards the R32s at the moment. They're very rare on Mk3s and don't look too bad at all IMO:
  4. Even the 17" wheels from the Golf Mk5 GTI will fit a VR6.
  5. There are two connectors - one is the plug on the back of the airbag itself, the other is a blue multiplug behind the dash.
  6. The Focus RS was the best FWD hot hatch you could buy.... ...until the Golf Mk5 GTI came out.
  7. Yes, Mk4 GTI wheels will fit the (5-stud) mk3 no problem, but different tyres will have to be used.
  8. Should be an enjoyable day out. Engine bay won't be done by then unfortunately - VSR manifold and custom samcos are at least 3 months off, but the new wheels should be on by then. I take it we'll be able to turn up plenty early so that we can do some final polishing....
  9. Must be pretty satisfying to see the new engine sitting in the bay!! Just the exhaust downpipe & wiring to sort now!! Are you going to be using the Mk4 dial cluster to get around the immobiliser?
  10. Bloody hell, that's one hell of a reefa!! Dis is me:
  11. The side-on view doesn't really do the RH ZW1's justice - when viewed from an angle you can see the dish effect more. Lovely wheels. BBS LMs kick ass, but are only available in 8.5x18" upwards, fitting these to a Mk3 would require heavy arch mods, probably why you don't see many Mk3s with them on. Seen them on Mk4s though and they look great. But just for you then, Nick:
  12. Antera 309s in 17" . Just fancied a change for the show season.. RH ZW1 seem to be the front runners at the moment. Trust you guys to pick the most expensive ones!! LOL
  13. I'm after an "OEM Plus" look but am undecided on wheels. Which do you think look best? OZ Aristos (R32 Wheels) in 18" RH ZW1 in 17" (not OEM look but nice wheels!!) Audi TT Comps in 17" Audi RS4s in 17" BBS RCs in 17"
  14. It's not that difficult to do. The engine, gearbox and front subframe all comes out as one unit once you've disconnected the exhaust downpipe, driveshafts, front struts, hoses & wiring.
  15. She's got too skinny for my liking now. She used to be well fit when she was in Superman.
  16. I fitted a GSF water pump this year and it's been fine, 5,000 miles later. I'm sure they do occasionally sell duff ones though - they change suppliers quite often so quality control can vary. If you do get a water pump bearing failure, check that your water pump pulley isn't bent or out of "true" (this is seen a "wobble" when the engine is running). A wobbling pulley exerts axial force on the pump bearings and this will knacker them pretty quickly.
  17. This is the way I understand it so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... A "gas flowed" head has the inlet & exhaust tracts (the passage between the valves and the ports on the side of the head) widened and polished. The widening allows the head to flow more gas per second and the polishing reduces air resistance due to friction against the sides of the tract. The polishing also removes any imperfections that may cause air turbulence. "Porting" is a widening of the ports on the side of the head itself to match the internal diameter of the inlet and exhaust manifolds. This elimi
  18. You need a Goodridge hose set for a 1996-onwards Golf VR6 (regardless of what year your car is). This will do both front & rear. You will also need the stock brake-line-to-front-caliper banjo bolts from the Audi TT Quattro/Audi S3/Golf 4Motion. With a bit of luck, you'll get these with your calipers. Otherwise, they are pretty cheap from a main dealer.
  19. I see the method in the madness. The engine and interior alone would no doubt fetch more than £500 on eBay.
  20. mmm, clean!! Vee Dub badge on the Kamei grille is a nice variation - haven't seen that done before.
  21. They're all getting up to the 100,000 mile+ mark now, and being "over the ton" always hits resale value. This is especially true of the VR6, as timing chains need doing soon after 100k and this is a £600-£800 job at a garage. So it's definitely a buyer's market at the moment. Some real bargains to be had. Get the chains done and service it well, and there's no reason why a 100k VR6 shouldn't be good for another 80,000 reliable miles. Interestingly enough, Corrado VR6 prices still remain healthy. Probably due to rarity value.
