  1. the mkIV's don't really go in. the fronts need the runners altering (or brackets making), but the rears are slightly too long. if you want a pro finish you'd have to take the fabric and cusion and put it onto a mkIII frame. not sure about 'rado's, same as mkII so the fronts will need a little fettling. but may be possible.
  2. cause water heats up more quickly than oil, cause oil is thicker than water. [ Edited Thu Nov 11 2004, 11:10AM ]
  3. well, i suppose i should post pics of my £93 mkII gti... here's how it was when i picked it up... and here's how it looks right now (but not for long)...
  4. that sucks, theres nothing more pathetic than messing with someone elses car. i think the thng about the vr6 is that its stealthy, to the avergae person it looks like every other golf. but it was prob just luck.
  5. 1. they are a bit noisy when cold, especially if you park outside overnight. 2. does it go away when the clutch is in?
  6. neither are leads i think (the only thing it says on the sheet is to check them), so that won't be quoted in the price they quote for service. leads cost £50-60 for cheapo ones, or £100 for the real mccoys (red vw own, which are much much better quality). where abouts are you zonda? i use automotive solutions in sonning (just east of reading), he certainly knows his vr's and is very reasonably priced.
  7. could be... fuel filter, plugs, leads, hall sender, coilpack, and on and on the first port of call is to get the ecu fault codes checked. if there isn't any then it will be plugs, leads, or coilpack (most likely leads).
  8. the part no i'm on about is 021 109 507A (or replace A for a B if chassis 217 001 on) its not a given that that part is whats causing the excessive rattle, it could be any one of the runners (theres 4 or 5 of them). only way to know is to have the inlet/cam cover/top timing chain cover off to have a look) the only parts that can be replaced without the gearbox coming out is that one tensioner 'bolt' and the upper most runner.
  9. well, a bungalow is pretty aerodynamic compared to a two storey house! lol
  10. must be a hoot... whats the performance figures it? if i were getting a people carrier i'd deffo get one of the vr6 equipt machines or a vauxhall zafira gsi turbo (that is one hell of a nice car, and fast - 0-60 in 7.8 and top of 148mph if i remember correctly)
  11. you want the one on right? not bad at all. there are different sleaved these days then? i haven't looked at aftermarket knobs since my nova days! lol
  12. oh, ok, confused the hell out of me for a sec...thought that a model of mkIV had a momo knob and couldn't work out which! yep, all momo knobs are universal.
  13. sorry, i said i like a car like that...i didn't say i had a car like that i meant for a track/race car. my vr6 is pretty pointy, but like any mkIII you can lift mid corner at normal speeds no probs. i think you'll find it is impossible to get the inside rear wheel to lift on a standard vr6...its too big and spongy a car with too much chassis flex to do that. 14. well, every car can get lift off oversteer...just some require serious persuasion! lol i like a car that is so tail happy that lfiting off will kill you, i like the rear to steer me slightly. a pug 306 gti is very good at this, you have to be on the power to keep the rear under control but that equals a very good drive out of the corners. lifting the inside rear wheel is no big deal, saxo vts's and 106 gti's do it as standard! 15. eh?! momo or mkIV gearknob? they're two different things! but, yep, both should fit (though a mkIV knob needs 'modifying' i believe)
  16. if you don't know much about cars its always best to get an AA or RAC check for peace of mind.
  17. buy it for £80, then put it on ebay..make some cash
  18. man, that'll be hard to keep up with down b roads! lol
  19. o2m i think its not a straight fit, and requires a fair bit of work. it also weighs shit loads so will hurt the performance of the car. if you want 6 speed why don't you get your current box converted. there used to be a kit by gemini that did it, but i think they don't exist anymore. either way, stealth do an upgrade, theres a few ratio options as well.
  20. if its to do with the engine moving too much then it will only happen when you change your throttle position (applying or lifting off). if its just doing it over bumps it ain't cause of engine mounts. if that were the case i'd immediately check if the exhaust hadn't fallen off the hangers (as is common on mkII golfs), but as you said you've had that checked i'm really lost for ideas.
  21. they sell new earthing leads for £3 from halfords, it doesn't need to be vr6 specific.
  22. thats no good...o.e. links are crap! or could it be awesome pulling a fast one. if you look on the neuspeed site the pic of the kit clearly shows new links. you got 25mm both end? the normal thing to do is get 22mm front with 25mm rear, or 25mm front with 28mm rear.
