  1. no point gettin LHD ones...apart from the MOT probs, you'll have really poor vision at night.
  2. get components, put the main speaker in the door and the tweeter under the covers onthe dah (may have to make a wooden thingy to hold them, altho my calibers (top speakers for little money by the way) came with a metal bracket that'll hold them. wiring's the biggest problem, the original front speakers wrok by havin one cable go from the h/unit to the dash speaker, which has another cable go donw to the door speaker. you'll never be able to run new thick cables through into the door (with out drilling), so i just used the existing cables for the whole lot, and mounted the two way crossover und
  3. hows the pedal feel? i've never had a set of uprated without it making it feel squichy (yes, its bled properly) and had increased travel.
  4. for the rears just use normal ones, get ones from the dealer tho, the quality will be better than from halfords. you'll never generate enough heat in the rears to make uprated ones worthwhile.
  5. had the exact same e-mail when selling a set of wheels...thought it was well strange and sent a e-mail back basically saying 'you what?!'...got no reply, sent another e-mail a few days later and it bounced back saying no e-mail address exists. ignore it.
  6. mine doesn't...i'd say it to the seller that you've checked with a vw expert and its the head gasket starting to go, and knock some off the price!!! maybe cheeky, but worth a try!
  7. be very careful...speak to an expert...if you get it wrong you could get badly damaged.
  8. i once went to look at a vr6 that had had a tow bar fitted at some point. it had two circular holes in the lower (black) part of the bumper...they'd tried covering it up with black tape....tho i'd say big grommets would've been a better idea.
  9. while we're locating things, where's the MAF sensor? [ Edited Sun Jan 11 2004, 06:34PM ]
  10. go down your local scrappy and look for a pug 309, these have the knobs to tilt the seats in the boot if i remember correctly (a mate had one as his first motor). you may be able to borrow parts from the pug, or at the very least get an idea of how to do it.
  11. bump stops will be totally shot, so replace them too...about £20 for a set i think.
  12. i wouldn't go with coilovers myself, i'm currently using just lowering springs...which is way better than standard, but if i had the money my prefered choice would be koni adjustanble dampers and eibach springs. a firend has this set up on his car and it's the perfect compromise of comfort and performance for everyday use, and you can adjust the damping rate (rebound) to fine tune it. coilovers only advantage is to get the car really low, unless you spend silly money and get ones that have rebound and bump adjustment on them.
  13. i got quoted about £200 from vw for one (was curious as to how much they cost!)
  14. '92's have a dizzy, '93 on have coilpack
  15. lets face it, whatever you do to your airbox (be it drilling it, or gettin a cone filter) is for noise...even a bmc only gives a negligable performance increase. go ahead and drill it...just drill at the wing side (away from engine) and only on the bottom section (so you're not bypassing the filter)
  16. forget all the plans... 15"s = best handling 16"s = good compromise of looks/handling, 17"s and above = look good, but crap handling. a vr6 is a performance car so whats the point in destroying it?
  17. i would agree with that, having a bonrath myself. impossible to get the wax out of the crevices around the letters! think fk do an identical one, without the badge tho. avoid the cheapy gsf ones, they don't look the same and are quite nasty.
  18. not a hard decision really, put the debaged one on. much, much, nicer.
  19. what type of bushes were fitted claire? and why did you hate them?
