  1. update - don't buy polysport ones for your mkIII, they're wrong (they're for a mkII), even tho rally design are adamant they're correct. had to buy expensive powerflex ones in the end.
  2. well....so far no! but the hardest bits is gettin the bolt out past the brake line, we managed to 'persuade' it to. gotta remove the biasing valve on the other side, but haven't done that yet. tip - check you've got the correct bushes before you remove the old one!!!
  3. is there anything wrong with your o.e. backbox claire? cause i'm after an o.e. one, gotta be the one vw fit mind, as they're okay (kind of sawn of at an angle), where as an aftermarket kwikfit job are real nasty (usually downswept pea shooters) and i don't want one of those!
  4. cause i've got the old ones out and the new ones appear to be too small a diameter!
  5. got the codes checked. there's a snapped vacuum hose. it also came up with a lambda sensor fault, which the guy thought was due to the hose, and would go away. he also, recommended new plugs and leads. so where's the cheapest place to get hold of them?
  6. it surprises me that anyone would bother for a daily driver. i for one wouldn't want to go through the hassle of puttin it back on once a year! also, i believe that removing the cat can make the car a lot louder?!
  7. thanx 'theotherphil' ! anyone have any idea's then?
  8. ...in reference to the low rev stutter problem... this is my thread from cgti forum, hope you don't mind me puttin a link up but it's easier than cutting and pasting, and also you can give comments on the replies... http://www.clubgti.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5904&PN=1&TPN=1 [ Edited ]
  9. could be...until i get vag-com plugged in i'm never gonna know for sure!
  10. i think they're a gimick really...you can buy a non-branded adjustable fuel pressure regulator from demon tweeks for a lot less money...if i'm right they do the same thing.
  11. well, i do still have the prob. and now it's occasionally loosing power at about 4500rpm on inclines (feels almost like head gasket goin - but i know its not that - doesn't sound like that anyway). i'm sure its fuel pump on mine.
  12. what you doin with your old backbox?
  13. by adjustable's, i meant damping adjustable...so you can stiffen or soften the shocks as you wish. used with o.e. springs they won't lower it at all. (maybe you meant to quote mina's post instead?)
  14. koni adjustables...lets you tailer the handling to your needs!
  15. yeah... iget weird noises first thing in the morning...keeps making me think the bottom ends on its way out, but five mins later is fine.
  16. it's weird, but i actually really like the design of the o.e. tailpipes, or the ones thats are currently on mine..think a lot have had quick fit jobbies fitted to them over the years and these look awful. my mates highline (whixh he's sellin due to a purchase of a honda NSX) has awful tailpipes.
  17. you sellin yours pat? damn it..wish i had the money, apparantly yours is about the best example you can buy!
  18. standard one...with hole in the backbox! talkin of which..has anyone got their o.e. lying around and don't want it? (send a pic first - i've seen many different ones on vr's...and mine is actually quite nice!...for an o.e. one)
  19. well...ta vr is gonna be ahell of a lot less sluggish than a gti (and your 1.4!) as its the same shell, and the vr has a fair bit more power. more power = less sluggish! if you can afford a vr, and the insurance, get one. it's a much more complete car than the gti. the engine is sooo much smoother andmore refined. the only prob the vr has (and gti's have the same) is the suspension...way to spongy. allow about £400 in your budget if you can and get a set of eibach springs and koni adjustable dampers straight away to make the car perfect.
  20. think you could get an engine with no ancilaries for about £500 (make sure you get the right one - not an early one). as long as the engine isn't knackered it should be the same as before. if you like the car, keep it.
  21. dependent on cost i'd ant one. tho i'd prefer it still to have the writing on it (says vr6-DOHC i think?) like the o.e. ones.
