So,

Here's the thing.

I seem to be getting regularly chastised for my attitude on here, and probably rightly so, I know I'm not the most personable of chaps lately.

Now it seems to me that the club and the forum as a whole is going swiftly downhill. I dont want this to become a whitch hunt, or a thread for people to bitch on because at the end of the day we're all to blame for this. However I do want the forum to become the place it used to be. I used to enjoy coming on here, however these days i'm more likely to read the threads, hang my head in dismay and walk away, which can't be good for the club as I'm sure I'm not the only one doing it.

The club has lost a lot of long standing members recently, and the massive influx of new members has meant that the forum seems to be filling up with more and more pointless rubbish, and yes I know, I've been responsible for my fair share recently.

I'm not blaming the committee for the way things have gone, they try there hardest but alot of the people on here, probably me included make there lives very difficult, and I don't think the club can afford to loose any more long standing members.

There are a few people that work very hard to keep this club alive for us, lets not make there lives any harder than we need to. The club wouldn't be here if it wasnt for them and if they quit you'll loose a mine of good information and what was a fantastic forum.

Personally if I was them I'd would have chucked it in a long time ago, sort yourselves out people.

If your going to reply to this, keep it on topic, I dont want any of the admins or mods to feel they need to move this.

thanks mate much appreciated. To be honest it'd be a great shame to lose some of the long standing members but i feel if it carries on im going to stand down. Im not alone in feeling like this either.

Were all here for the love of dubs at the end of the day. I cant believe that its gone downhill so much lately and its got to the point where were close to banning people.

None of us wants this to happen as we have some quality people on here, and ive personally made some great friends because of this site.

Id like to see people making a conscious effort to make it a better place to be for all on here... As a club were supposed to be preety close knit - doesnt feel like that at the moment if im honest...

Well put Steve.

Obviously topics will get revisited many times as new members join, and I feel as a whole we have to be more tolerant in replying. I know, I was a green newbie once!!!

And as for people replying off topic on threads to have a dig at one another is getting boring and childish. Lets get back to being a friendly club, newer members gaining from the experiences of older/more knowledge members, therefore informing their friends of the club, and as a result the club growing bigger and stronger together.

Steve, Thanks for starting this thread, and that your continuing support to improve the website/forum.

We are trying very hard to improve our services to you, bringing on additional resources and skills & features over the coming weeks.

At the end of the day, it's the members/users who make up a forum - without, the forum/club would not exist.

However, like on any forum, it's a minority that are trying to spoil it for the rest - this will not be tolerated, and subsequently warning and bans are being handed out to the users in question.

We (As a club) are providing guidelines and a facility to you. If you are abusing this, and spoiling it for the rest, then we have no alternative but to stop you from abusing a service that are providing in our spare time.

We are, however about to make some large changes to the forum very soon.

This will include a totally revised forum front page with a new "find answers quickly" box - this should allow users to easily search for answers before posting ideally.

1154175310_1_FT0_mockup_.jpg

New categories, this will bring support for mk2's, syncro's, 4motions and R32's etc... - It will a lot more refined, and will make information more easily available.

It's been a roller coaster of a ride over the last 2 years, 10 months, 2 weeks, 3 days.... (yes, that's how long the website has been operating).

I have to say that the icing has been taken off the cake recently, I dont want people to throw in the towel, but if they do, I will struggle to keep the club going without all of your support.

Thanks.

Peter

Ah what a breath of fresh air :)

I've been thinking of saying something along these lines lately, but felt I wasn't really in a position to do so, seeing as I aint been on here too long myself. But even in the short time I have been here i've noticed a change in the general vibe.

Nice one for making the point Steve and cheers to Pete and the rest of the crew for your efforts to improve the club. It is definately appreciated, especially for people like me who are relatively new to the scene :)

i know what you guys all mean...

there has been some real rubbish on here at times but i think that is just the way of the world (and public forums)- some stuff you like - some you don't..

personally if i see something i don't like or agree with i think "that's stupid" and just ignore it and carry on .

if i see something i like or agree with i'll reply.....

anyway i'll continue to be on here regardless as i love my vr6 and almost anything to do with it. :):)

i hope the club continues to go from strength to strength ......i've enjoyed my time with you guys and girls so far :-d

Some good points raised there, Steve. And as you can see, you're not alone. We appreciate your feedback and you can rest assured that keeping the site good-natured and a fun place to visit is our top priority right now.

We are in a bit of a transitionary period at the moment, between being a bunch of people & a website, and something more substantial. This is something that all the large VW sites like Vortex & E38 had to go through themselves at some point.

A major revamp is imminent, both to the layout of the site and the way in which it is moderated.

We've got all sorts of exciting stuff planned, so stick with us. You'll be glad you did!

Very nice read steve.

This site has a lot of things going for it. Lots of dedicated members. And lots of users who have great things to offer (Yourself included) To lose these people would be very bad and could be the start of the long and slippery slope.

When answering the same old questions day in day out on the forums to new people on the site it can get pretty frustrating. It's only natural. I don't think we should use this as an excuse to be rude or inpolite to new comers as we really don't want to put people off. It's suprising how many people just jump in and ask a question when they really should be looking for previous threads on the same subject. You only have to take a look at the forums to see how many topics there are on suspension set-ups and they are all on the same page !

Hopefully we can start to direct users to other topics and these new threads can be swiftly locked so we are not swamped with the same things again and again.

Hopefully the new search feature will improve things no end !

The other thing I see we need is to stop taking pot shots at other clubs.

All clubs out there do this for the same reason. To have fun with mates and have a good time. Some clubs do things differently to other clubs, some poeple may prefer one club to another. Some people may stand up for their club and fight the corner of their club. There is a right way and a wrong way to do this.

It would be preferable for any disputes to be carried out via Private Message than have open slanging matches in the forums.

If things are oepenly posted in the forums it starts the beliefes that they are the views of the club and that is simply not the case.

As a forum/club we are not doing to much wrong. With the site growing in numbers day by day we expect a bit of heated banter from time to time but we do need to try and not take it to far.

After all we are all here for the fun !

So let's get back to it !

Mark.

I can't actually belive i've only been on this site for a year and a half! The amount of like minded, sound peolple i've met and chatted to at shows, RR days, on the computer and at regional meets via this club has been outstanding.

I sincerly hope this club and all involved continues to go from strengh to strengh : )

Steve, great thread!

Good constructive points from all..

This site is going from strength to strength and with every thing that gets bigger, it needs restructuring. The admin team have a huge task ahead, but as has been said, big changes are happening! Although the structure of the site is down to the VR6oc Admin team, the actual overall image and content of the site is down to the members.. So thanks to every1, Keep up the posting of information, constructive comments, friendly chat, and fair moderation!

Well done Admin, and members old and new right down to member 4213 bluslc! welcome and enjoy :)

I have been drawn more towards this forum recently as its been more enjoyable than CGTI and E38 since its revamp. This club is more of a specialised site than the other forums as it deals with the V6 engine. It has been said that it is in transition but you get that in all walks of life when things grow out of what they were originally designed for. So keep things going forward and they will get better i'm sure.

Good work to all involved and lets keep it up

Thank you Steve that was a breath of fresh air :) and coming from you hunny and I nearly fell off my chair reading it ;)

Its been a tough old few months :-|

Yesterday I was throwing in the towel, abandoning ship and quitting as I could not stand any more of it.

From a personal point of view for the last few years I have put in hours every week for this club to attemp to make the website, shows and events we do a pleasent happy and enjoyable place for every one to be and go to.

And to see it all going down hill and to hear and read some of the things was truely heartbreaking for me (u) and I cannot stress how bad its been making me feel of late - to the point I even want sell my car.

What I'd like to see is everyone being a bit more human to one another on here. Its all very easy to sit at a PC and type away but much more difficult when you have to face the music.

Also this seems a vert poiniant point for everyone to maybe read our rules which we set up initially all them years ago so instead of me linking our rules thread I'm going to copy and paste them into here :$

I'm not here to lecture anyone as none of us have any right to ^o) but we'd like to keep it civil and enjoyable on here and as Warren mentioned earlier none of us wants to start banning people from this site.

At the mo were working hard to get the last few events and shows of the year running smoothly as well as planning a major event at Billing next year so please people lets pull together and show the dub world what a valued club we are as at the end of the day we all do it for our love of cars especially ones with VR6 lumps :-p

Oh and not to forget here are the rules ;) - Happy reading :)

The VR6 Owners Club Forum Rules

In order for everyone to get the most enjoyment from the VR6OC forums, we ask that all who would like to post messages follow the rules and guidelines outlined below.

Rule 1: Be Polite

This seems obvious, however, many can sometimes forget that common courtesy goes a long way to lending respect to both you and your opinions. Just because you don't see the other readers' faces doesn't mean they don't have feelings and won't be hurt by rude comments. When you read something that you find silly, rude or insulting, first assume that perhaps there is more to the post than you initially thought. Re-read it and keep in mind that tone and inflection is difficult to convey in written form. It may be that the person is attempting a joke or is exaggerating on purpose. It is best to politely request clarification before accusing someone being ignorant, a liar, or worse.

If after clarification you still disagree with the person then politely outline your points. Try to avoid name-calling or even implying insults wherever possible. These tactics generally only inflame a situation and lead to what are known as "Flame Wars." Whenever a flame war starts it usually ruins a perfectly good discussion. Others will lose interest in the thread and the discussion board in general if this kind of interchange is found here.

It also should go without saying that swearing, profanity, sexual references, etc. should be used in moderation.

Rule 2: Stay on Topic

After reading and posting on VR6OC forums for a while you may feel as though you have developed friendships with some, perhaps many, of the other posters and readers. This is probably one of the most rewarding parts of participating in a discussion area. It is only natural to occasionally want to share information with your friends that is "Off Topic". Please make sure this is conveyed in the ?General Section? of the forum.

Please do not hijack threads by asking a completely different question within another thread. There is nothing to stop you starting your own thread.

Lastly, please keep topics titled ?FAO ??? to a minimum. We have a PM (private messaging) system which will allow you to send a private message directly to another user. Please use this method of communication when enquiring about an update on a situation between yourself and another user.

Rule 3: No Spam

While Spam may be a tasty meat product, on the Internet "spam" refers to invasive, unsolicited information. Posting advertisements for unrelated web pages or services is simply not acceptable. In addition, posting many repeat posts just to increase your post count or to generally be 'cute' is also inappropriate.

Rule 4: Picture sizes

Please make sure all signatures posted in the forum are no bigger than 500 x 150 and any other images 500 x 500. Please make sure all avatar images are no bigger than 150 x 200. Not everyone has a fast connection, so consider resizing your images to capture a wider audience. If an image puts the forum out of spec (horizontal scroll bars, etc) then the link to the image will be deleted. If you are having problems resizing or hosting an image, please contact a member of the admin team.

If you break the rules?

While we all have the best of intentions occasionally mistakes happen. Unfortunately there will be people who sometimes try to goad others into acting in a manner they would otherwise avoid. Many of us can get on each other's nerves occasionally either by accident or on purpose. When this happens sometimes things are posted that are later regretted. This happens to the best of us, and with a quick apology you can usually repair any damage done.

In addition to the occasional loss of temper, there are a few out there who seem to enjoy causing trouble. They will post inappropriate information in various forums and make comments with intent to start flame wars, add spam, etc.

To keep such occurrences to a minimum, VR6OC has moderators who read the forums and try to keep things polite and on topic.

If posts occur that break any of the three above rules the moderators may take some or all of the following actions, often without warning:

:: Posts that are in the wrong forum will be moved to the correct forum. If your post just disappeared - DON'T PANIC! Check the other forums to see if it was moved.

:: Threads that get long because they have wandered off topic will be locked or ?pruned? People can still read the thread, however no new posts can be added. If you'd like to continue your ideas start a new thread with an appropriate title in the correct forum.

:: Posts that contain profanity, insults, blatant attempts at baiting a flame war, racial and sexual slurs, etc. will be locked/edited/deleted. Occasionally whole threads may have to be deleted if they degenerate into a situation described above, or moved to a section only available to moderators as a record. Repeatedly posting such comments may result in temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges.

:: Spam posts (ads, attempts at attention, etc.) will be deleted on site. Repeat offenders may receive temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges.

:: Off Topic Posts: While these should be avoided, the occasional off topic post is generally allowed as long as it reasonably contained. Note that off topic posts should be RARE and kept to a minimum. People who repeatedly post off topic and abuse this may risk suspension of posting privileges.

Remember that posting on this forum (or any Internet forum, for that matter) is a privilege, NOT A RIGHT. Please treat it that way. If your posts are locked, edited or deleted due to one of the issues outlined above do not be offended or take it personally. Evaluate what you posted and think about why it might have been. If you have any questions as to why your post was locked or you lost posting rights, please feel free contact one of the moderators.

Remember, have a laugh, have a joke, and keep it polite.

Thank you for your cooperation

The VR6OC Moderating Team

sounds to me like everyone is pretty committed to a change in attitude and to keep the club alive.

i am still as enthusiastic about the club as ever and i know that there are enough friendly vr lovers on here to keep things good.

quite often all it takes to sort out problems is a simple pm, and then it usually goes back to facetiousness (is that a word?) taken the wrong way.

keep smiling :)

As life moves on you either change with the times or get left behind.

This club has realised that and is moving in the right direction. There will always be those people who were born to break rules and annoy others but they are in the minority on this site. :@ :@

With the hard work that Admin and the Moderators put into running this site im sure it will grow in strength each and every day.

I have made some friends in the time that ive been a member on this forum and for that im grateful to Pete and the Gang. :):)

I always know someone on here will be able to help with almost any vr6 related question i may have, and am happy to have been able to help out others in the same way.

On a final note WE the MEMBERS make this site what it is so come on guys and girls lets pull together and keep it going.

I tell you one thing, owners of other marques don't have it this good. I've just come off the migweb.co.uk forum (the Vauxhall equivalent of CGTI) where I've been trying to find out where the heater blower relay was on my girlfriend's Corsa. After searching the forums thoroughly for the answer, I put up a post asking for some help. My post sat there for two weeks, completely ignored. In the end I had to spend £18 on a haynes manual just to find out where one bloody relay was located.

That would never happen here. Or on Edition 38, the-corrado-dot-net or VWVortex either come to think of it.

And people wonder why I like VWs so much?!? LOL
