  1. I finally got round to taking a photo of the car with it's yellow tinted fogs/indicators I think I might need to re do another left hand indicator as in the cold weather condensation seems to be building behind the laminex.
  2. I know mate. I can see it being one of THEM problems that take ages to sort out I put the paint code up for the black GTI if it's any good for you.
  3. I know. All sorts of conclusions. Thanks again for doing the diagnostics, the lights came back on before I got back onto Gelderd Rd though so I'm thinking there's still a fault with the ABS even though it didn't show any codes....
  4. That's cool mate. I've got your pm & I'll see you tomorrow
  5. In all the Golfs that I've owned I've only had 2 that didn't need the front top nuts chiseling/cutting off. For some reason they all seem to rust solid & become one with the top shaft of the damper. I bought a special, fine chisel just for doing this & I hate it every time!
  6. That's cool mate, I'm not working tomorrow. Thank you. What time do you want me to get there?
  7. Evening all My Golf is due for its MOT at the beginning of February & before it goes in I want to check it for fault codes.... Is there anyone in the Yorkshire area that has a vagcom & wouldn't mind running a diagnostic check for me? Cheers Jamie
  8. Is there a build thread for this awesome machine? I've tried searching but it doesn't come up
  9. This weekend I'm working down in kent again, like I have for the last 4 weekends So much to do on the car but with working & a 6 month old time on weekends is very limited
  10. Is it just the orange ABS light that comes on or does the red hand brake/problem light come on too? If it's just the orange one then it's most likely the sensors but if it's both then it's probably the pump/ecu that's gone
  11. Mine has the same problem & as it's going in for the MOT at the start of February I need to sort this.... Did the come back with a price & would you mind telling us? I have a replacement ABS pump/ecu but it hasn't been tested so I think it would be safer to send the original away for remanufacture. Cheers Jamie
  12. Morning all. I'm starting to strip my old GTI & before I put bits up for sale I'm sorting out what to keep. So as I plan on doing a manual conversion on my VR6 at some point next year, would the shifter tower & cables be any good to use on theVR?
  13. If I stick to 70 in my auto I get around 33mpg, which I don't think is too bad. I'm hoping to get the same next year when we do out honeymoon/euro trip (3700 miles in 7 days)
  14. I ran RS2's on my M3 for 12 months & they performed really well. Very grippy in the wet & good in the dry too, they took quite a bit if persuasion to break traction. I had conti sport 2's on my Focus ST, they were very good too. I did over 14000 miles on them before I sold the car (including a fair few spirited drives through the Yorkshire dales with the STOC crew) and the still had plenty of tread left. My favourite tyres though are Toyo T1R's and the Goodyear eagle GSD3's but I don't think they make them anymore.
  15. I'm thinking I'd have to try both then make a decision. It would depend on how much fun the DSG was.
  16. Lol! Sounds perfect.... Just don't tell the other half
  17. Cheers mate! I'm tending to agree with you. After reading & pricing things up it's not worth the risk, I'll get her running, handling & stopping perfectly so that she'll do the trip with no worries..... Then start saving for a Mk5 R32
  18. Thanks Pete, That's my thinking too, I know the engine in mine is perfect and the rest of the car (bar the paintwork) is very good... I think my main concern is the time the conversion would take, the parental units & my future wife wouldn't be happy if I brought another golf home without getting rid of one. Besides I really like the colour of mine. I'm thinking if I take it off the road at the end of January & start then at least I've got a couple of months to get it done, mot'd & shaken down. On the other hand, does anyone know of anywhere up north (Yorkshire/Lancashire way ) t
  19. Evening all, I'm getting married next April & for our honeymoon we're going to do a 7 day driving tour round Europe My dilemma is that the future Mrs has said we can take the VR6 The problem is.... It's a bloody auto & driving round Europe, down as far as Italy, through the mountains requires three pedals & a proper gearbox!..... So do I sell the current one & buy a manual one or do I convert to manual? Bearing in mind that I have no free time & a 6month old daughter. HELP! Cheers Jamie
