  1. Im with calico, carry a small piece of timber to use as a ramp. put it in the spare wheel under the carpet and you wont even now its there. I wouldn't jack off the sills unless absolutely necessary they are weak. Buy a trolley jack for general maintainance
  2. I have replaced all my bushes with powerflex and made a world of difference. Rear beam, roll bar, and wishbones. The roll bars on vr6 are 20mm
  3. i didn't even no they were heated, ill get a new strap then. Cheers mate
  4. On my 97 vr6 when you open bonnet, near the hinge on the right hand side is a short strap probably about 6". I think it must be an earth bolted to bonnet and wing. Is it an earth, mine snapped in half
  5. there is a gru screw drain screw in fuel rail. but minimal leakage anyway without fuel pump running. KEEP IGNITION OFF TO.
  6. Straight forward really. Remove original hoses from fuel rail and bulk head. Only about half meter long. Cut new hose to equal length. I used a cutting disc on a dremmel. Pliers seemed to damage the braiding. Refit new hose. Make sure you buy high pressure hose for fuel injected engine. Low pressure is for cars running carbs
  7. yeah the big rubber belt. Could be slipping on the power steering pulley or it could be the power steering pump itself. Just have a listen in that area.
  8. does it sound like your pulley belt is slipping on start up? as your engine speed increases the belt wont slip. hence why it only does it for few seconds
  9. They fit fine but the screw that tightens the clamps would have ideally been hidden, but no room, so you have to rotate the clamp so that he screw is at the top and visable. Just abit annoying. If you look at the pics you should see what i mean.

  11. Ok you will need 8mm internal diameter braided hose, i bought 2 meters for about £16 My hose is made by Sytec motorsport and was purchased from demon thieves, I also bought those red hose finishers costing £4 each. However if you look at your fuel rail inlet and outlet they are very close together meaning not much clearance for the finishers. I would advise getting some nice chrome hose clamps instead
  12. in the engine compartment yes. Not throughtout car from the fuel tank. Its dead easy.
  13. The vr6 engine is supposed to run 95 octane fuel. So why pay extra for 99 octane. It will make no difference unless your car has been remapped to run 99 octane. Fifth Gear done a test a few years back testing three different fuels on different cars then rolling roaded them. Putting a higher octane fuel in a car not designed for it made no performance improvement whatsoever. However putting standard fuel in a Subaru designed for 99 octane reduced power substantially.
  14. Subarus sound lovely. My 250cc suzuki RMZ 4 stroke, only has one cylinder but sounds wicked. But you cannot beat the sound of a MK1 MK2 Escort BDA on a rally stage. [youtube=]Simon McKinley Ford Escort Mk2 Early 07 Hillclimb Season VPV
  15. my mate has a GSI turbo and is also part of the owners club. He has put a dump valve on it and thinks its the best thing since sliced bread. Nice lad though. Had to laugh the other day he had to have new handbrake cable and it cost £160. very complicated design. VW are a dream to work on in comparison
  16. thanks for your replys guys. i pressure bleed the system with the car off. Do you think it would make any difference with motor running? will run the car for a week then perhaps bleed system again. about time i changed my brake pads. I had worn through to the metal. Hard to believe i have 11 months mot.
  17. finally fitted my mk4 rears. Took two days as i encountered some problems and it gets to dark to early at the moment. Fitted genuine rear discs and wheel bearing kit. Mk4 golf alloy calipers Hel braided lines and red stuff pads. I used a dot 4 fluid and flushed the system with a gunson pressure bleeder. Why does make brake pedal travel further than previous and pedal feel spongey.
  18. yeah thats quite true actually, i avoid professional garages like the plague, so forget how much they charge. You need to make a friend in the trade and ask them to do it on the side. But of course you must tell the tax man.
  19. I think that quote is very high. They dont need to use any specialist tools and can be done in couple of hours. Im no mechanic i did mine by only jacking up one rear corner at a time, there is enough flex in the rear beam to allow this. remove nut and bolt. Make sure you dont bend your brake lines though. I didnt even need to disconnect them. Removing the bush from the beam is time consuming but not difficult, simply drill a large hole in the rubber. get a hacksaw blade in there and cut through the rubber and metal bush case. Bush then will simply tap out and new one slide in. Make sure they u
  20. dont know the answer just read in a thread on here that you need these clips. Dont think i do though. Ill make it work
  21. id only replace your rims with bbs rs 16" or schmidt modern line 3 piece. But hey thats me. What are your RC's worth
  22. when i first bought my motor i had the same thing, only happened at low revs. Car would judder and occationally back fire when accelerating. Became really annoying. One day whilst washing my car i cleaned the engine bay and got the plug holes wet. Then when i started my car it was worse than ever. Had a look under the bonnet and could see a bright blue spark coming from one of the leads down the plug hole. Could here the engine missing every time it sparked. Changed the leads for magnecor 8.5's and never had a problem since. I think its due to people trying to replace the leads without using t
  23. how much water you lost? Have you checked your oil for manky substance. oh and does oil warning lamp come on ?
  24. certainly sounds like oil cooler to me As both coolant and oil flow through this there is potential for mixing/leakage. Especially if steam was seen coming from this area.
  25. mines fitted with a scorpion 5000 alrm my wheels are 17x7.5 bbs rx2
