  1. thanks, i bought a set from vwspares.co.uk for my auto vr6 and have had them on and off. they seem to make car run ok but bit of shakey idle. are these the magnecor ones your on about that are very good ? http://www.camskill.co.uk/m14b61s1113p85403/MAGNECOR_IGNITION_LEADS_-_Magnecor_8mm_Plug_Lead_Set_-_VW_Golf_2_8_VR6_1994-97
  2. need some good quality ht leads that will last and be fine to take off and on a few times. there are some 7mm leads from dubpower for £35 are these any good ? and are they the same size leads for obd1 and obd2
  3. have had this three or four times now on my golf and cant really work out the reason behind it , i have cleared sunroof drain holes recently and cleared crap out of scuttle. im missing the seal that goes around scuttle panel though as it had deteriorated so i cut it off to make a clean finish could this be it ?
  4. relay i am using is number 72 , weird that the fuel pump is always on when ignition is on or at least i can hear it all the time
  5. since conversion fuel pump seems much noisier than normal. - i did change fuel pump to vr6 one. When ignition is on i can hear the fuel pump as if its priming however the noise carries on for aslong as i keep the ignition on. like i had ignition on for 5 mins and could still hear it. when car is on at idle i can hear it to. car is 97 and was converted from gti to vr6 with a vr6 fuel pump installed however i kept the same fuel filter from the 2.0gti.
  6. brand new battery , crank sensor looks past it i might change it anyway as it cant hurt
  7. for as long as ive had the car it always take around 5 seconds to start hot or cold. when working on it years ago i remember finding the front crank sensor corroded through so i had done a temp fix on it and didnt notice any difference to be honest and never got round to replacing it. could it be it just needs replacing to fix slow starting issue ? car runs very nicely bar this
  8. Underneath the car near the catalytic convetor there it a plate which is held on to the underside by 4 studs coming out of the body and 4 nuts. went to undo this when changing the cat and 2 of the studs broke straight off. from what i can see the only thing it does is catch the exhaust if it drops but double checking should i just take it off , gring studs off and underseal at the same time as im welding floor up?
  9. ok thanks , sound is awsome i have a cone filter but would i need something like BMC CDA to counter torque lost ? the gti supersprint fitted is restricting it i guess ? i have a remus backbox for a jetta but half way through modifying it to fit
  10. just fitted decat and there is back pressure but not that much , is this normal ? decat is made from the old cat with inners cut out + welded up - i also put exhaust sealent around weld to make sure it wouldnt blow its running standard exhaust sytem bar decat and the gti supersprint still fitted
  11. yeah plugged it in at garage and the alternator isnt kicking much out atall so definately alternator issue getting one from paul on here so should be all good soon
  12. ok will look at that but would it explain slightly high idle ?
  13. havent checked that but will do tomorrow as its down garage for me to change suspension and check a few bits before its garage report
  14. the idle is also slightly high now at 1000rpm if this is related
  15. vr6 has been sat for a few weeks whilst waiting for parts. started vr after changing tensioner pulley and suddenly battery light has just come on. let it run for a while and still its on,. tried anpother good battery in it which is basically new and its still on. any ideas?
  16. found the prob. pulley was straight on power steering pump however at low revs you could visually see the pulley moving about -even though i had checked the pulley for play. so i thought if the noise goes at higher revs it might be the centrifugal force straightening it and the reason it comes back at low revs is cause there isnt enough force there to keep it straight, making it move about? anyway second hand pump it is , cheers for the help. in the mean time is it ok to use the car with the bad pump untill pump comes ?
  17. didnt realise the pic was so small , im on about the the main bit - bolts that secure main subframe to chasis
  18. this is the only diagram they have shown me , which numbers are the bolts i need ?
  19. ok thanks , just stuck for where to get them now
  20. After doing my conversion i reused the subframe bolts , is this ok ? tried getting some from my vw dealer but they dont have a diagram showing the correct bolts , so where do i get them from
  21. cheers just looked at it and the clamp that secures ignition barrel etc to steering column is slightly loose! how the f*** do i fix that cause the clamp cant be tightened as the bolt on it hasnt got a head. please help !
  22. noticed i can lift steering wheel up and down slightly and pull it out towards me and push it in again. what bolts are loose ? there is no play in the steering so i was sure its securing bolts ?
