yep thats right,i had help,slot the spring into place then try to get the bolt in,it wasnt easy but i did this on my a3 so the golf might have more space under there
the spring sits in a housing that slides upwards,but i took the bolt out then the pedal drops but remember its spring loaded so getting the spring back in is very fiddley,you have to wrestle with it mate
i presume its the same as my a3,there's a bolt that the pedal swivels on,take the bolt out and your pedal should drop but the pain is putting it back in as its spring loaded,its better to have four hands on this job

there is a thread in the knowledge vault that shows you how to do your chains,as long as you've got tools you cant go wrong,its a big job but every step is explained with pics it makes it so simple a 5yr old would understand,have a look
