    You know that sound when you select a gear when you lift the clutch too early... I hear that sound only sometimes when I put it into 1st on a stand still. Not so much a clunk sound though I hope it's nothing too serious!

    Infact in another Golf I had overheated alot and the fan only came on at the last minute at full speed. And, I'm sure that was because the thermostat gives way last minute.

    Closed. If it stuck open I guess it be constantly cool. But, say like in the winter when you turn your heating on, it won't get warm very quickly.

    Doesn't the fan only come on when the radiator is in use? Because the thermostat only lets water into the radiator at a certain temp? And, apparently the thermostat sticking is common fault in Golfs.

    Just had a good luck underneath and there's another black drip just about to fall from around the tray. Following the tubing from the power steering pump seems to be okay, cheers Shail. May be a new seal?

    Hurray! Only had the vr for a couple of days and I have my first problem! I can park it somewhere for about an hour and come back and find 2 drops of oil directly underneath the engine on the pavement. What could be the likely causes? And, how much would it cost at most to repair? as, I'm a skint at the minute! Thanks in advance
