The last Elsecar meet I went to, I had the only VR there! Mostly mk2 rallye. Can't remember if it was the mega meet though

Yes, the manifold shielding is stuck to it as well. Might take it off then if its just for sound proofing. Who needs sound proofing

I noticed the same carpet material you get beneath the bonnet is also running along the the rear of the engine bay. Would it be dangerous to remove it? (Obviously making sure there is heat shielding around the exhaust manifold area)

That's a good idea... I do like that dimming effect in the mk4
