  1. Valves &/or rings all the way to the bank m8 - as Adam_christie said. Thicker oil will "plug the gaps" but........ puts more pressure on stuff - so it will fail quicker (than it was going to - not always in 10 minutes time) and usually in style! Thick oil is a Dodgy 2nd hand salesman trick ..... So always use the right stuff as you are the chap on the side of the road! Only advice I can give you on this recon stuff is the same as with everything. "You gets wot you pays for"! So check what they change on the rcon engine - Valves/rings/bearings/guides/Blackety Blank check book and pen!
  2. Nice and Likin the Red! Which Fogs did you put on??? I got celis and dont want just the smooth crystal ones
  3. Guys - the geek of an engineer that I am (really OCD like (h) ) - wants to know more! I haven't read up on turbos as I was planning s/c so the buzz words are above me & as to their purpose also! (I am questioning myself on fitment of s/c vs Turbo) So Once you are up and running and have some time to kill (snow on the ground - that kinda thing) could you help me out with the lingo, the Y's n what 4's Cheers and dont forget to keep the pictures coming kevhaywire. I watch with interest!

    VAG Family

Started with the old mans Audi 100 5E - the 2.2L 5 cyl worth of wail ... Man they still sounds good to this day....Ahh - I need a good UR Turbo in my life at sometime ! SWB of course! Never looked back (almost - chaved an Nova GTE for a while - we all make mistakes once ) then mk 1 Gti/ conv, mk 2 8 & 16v then I had a mk4 gti 1.8T then mk3 VR6. Brothers been involved also with these cars and one still has a 8v mk and thinks his is better for tourqe... He's only young. He'll learn Parents got a sweet A4 Avant at the mo and just got rid of a polo going for almost 200k miles. For a 17k m
  5. There are a few on Ebay at the mo and an alternate for a few more of your hard earned sheckles
  6. I don't suppose you have the link for the beat box one do you?
  7. Sorry just in case I am reading this wrong.....the VAGCOM needs to be plugged in and reset? Just to change a window motor???
  8. Ladies and gents, I know there have been conversations on here before but I don't seem to be able to resolve this... Going into my distant past I recall the oil temp sitting happily at 90 deg all day once warmed through and on the old motorway. It now varies a little dependant upon my speed upto about 110 deg but never really drops much below 98. Why ????? I feel this is a little high really!! Am I worrying about nothing??? The car is running as it should be no lumpy idle etc to indicate too hot or evapourating fuel etc.. For my own piece of mind I did a flush with the last oil and filter
  9. Demon tweeks were meant to be re-stocking last couple of weeks or so, as I was getting some off there. Mine were smashed on delivery. I got anther set elsewhere......So may be worth following up!
  10. Wot all seals guys. I've got one O Ring what else is there???
  11. OK so....... I did look at this ...I have a m8 who worked for Audi/VW and he has told me this (which I have had from other sources also). As always feel free to tell me I'm wrong!!! Yes you can get gains out of a performance 6 branch. It can also effect torque etc ... We all know this! I have always had manis fitted on my previous cars! However there isn't the room to get the right config in the VW engine bay. For example the standard mani on the Audi gives more bhp than the golf. Strain is placed on the joint because of - the angle of your dangle - and that is why you get the cracks etc.
  12. Gotta be honest I am a fan of two types of interior... Standard looking leather (buckets) Or stripped with carpets/stereo in as you'll use it regularly and dont want too much noise - with the roll cage and harness set up
  13. Ladies and gents, I'm Gonna change my thermastat.. Not done a VR6 one before and wondered if there were any tips for this lump ........ I've got the lump and the little rubber o-ring so far.. Must admit I haven't had a propper look yet so any comments will be great Cheers

    mk2 VR6 track vids

cool.... Looking and Sounding good......... Some interesting cars there that day....Beetle looked quick and what was the car in front as you exited the pits ?
  16. you seem to have your hands in your pockets............
  17. Standard disks and fast road pads. Can't see my discs so the extra vent / style points from x-drilled is no benifit for normal road driving. Use the fast road pads as the old VR6 doesnt stop as well as new cars so this helps (10 year old technologhy n all that - I have an 54 accord also and it is noticable). I got Pagid on but they cause more dust than standard OEM ones. No squeel and good feel to them. As the boys/ladies said GSF have good prices and their standard discs are (were) Brembo so a good make anyway. If doing rear sets soak the bolts in oil on the calipers for as long as you
