VR6OC National Meet 6-8th August Billing Aquadrome
spindat45 replied to Ben Seabrook's topic in Previous Events
It doesn't look as though myself and Sparkz will be making it. Mine has a few issues that haven't been resolved and he's got alternator issues with his "R" Hope you all have a good weekend. -
When you say it's running hot is it overheating and if so, was it overheating before you changed the crackpipe? Also did you replace the thermostat?
-
I was fortunate enough to replace one of these on mine before fitting another engine. If you can get to the back of the water pump (from underneath is easiest) see if you can feel a rough edge on the engine block where the pipe goes in. That area gets corroded so that may be why you can't get the new pipe in with the new seal fitted. Get rid of the corrosion with a coarse sandpaper, and then apply a little grease to the o-ring. Be careful not to damage the o-ring when pushing the crack pipe in. I place a piece of wood on the end of the pipe and tapped gently but as i said the engine was out

Fingers crossed for a stand pass and I'll be there on Sunday in something with "R32" badges on it....... -
I think you might need to go for 205/40/17's. Depends on the offset of the wheels also but I'm guessing that the 215's are too wide. Kevin

GTi Spring Festival Sun 11th April 2010
spindat45 replied to Ben Seabrook's topic in Previous Events
I know this might be a bit late but weather permitting, myself, pro4motion and Sparkz are hoping to make an appearance. Is there any chance of us joining the VR6OC stand? My VR, a 4Motion and possibly an R32? Kevin -
I can vouch for these splitters. They're good quality and I've had one on mine for some time. Think I piad £14 for it at a show last year. I'm a driving Instructor and I can't understand why Pass Plus tuition does not form part of the driving test. We cannot take learners onto motorways, only dual carraigeways, which can be vastly different to motorways. I think there should be a two stage driving test. You'd pass the first part with an examiner as it is now and in order to obtain a full licence and drive on motorways or cars above a certain engine size, you'd have to do a minimum of six hours additional tuition with a qualified instructor. These addiditional hours would include a minimum of three hours motorway driving and the r

Has anybody with a Mk 4 V6 4 Motion uprated their suspension (shocks and springs) without going down the coilover route? If so what did you go for, how much lower than standard and how much did it cost? Kevin

Send Sparkz a PM. He might be able to help. Kevin

Strange steering noise

No problem. Let us know either way if that's the problem. -
Strange steering noise
spindat45 replied to Ian_rogers's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Mine does the same but more so on the drivers side. I checked the whole suspension set up and narrowed it down to the suspension top mount bearings. Instead of the bearing (which sits on top of the suspension strut) turning when you turn the wheel, the top cap of the shock absorber is turning and the "donk" happens when the spring relocates itself. I'd suggest having a good look at your suspension in general but by the sounds of it, you may have the same problem as me. If it does turn out to be that, it's advisable to change the bearings and the top mounts. Kevin -

Definately do an oil change first. Ideally use Synta 10w40 semi synthetic oil from VW or GSF I think. You should get a discount as a premium member at GSF although I'm not sure if there is one on the IOW. An equivalent good quality oil of the same grade would be ok. VR's have hydraulic tappets so no adjustment there but they are known to be a little rattly on idle especially on higher mileage engines. As long as the initial rattle goes after a couple of seconds then I wouldn't worry. Replace your oil and filter and see how it goes. Kevin

Oh yes, that too

You now have an obd2 VR highline with a 2.9 lump. The best of both worlds really. Kevin

I used to be a Magic Tree Forest Fresh person but it's California Scents for me everytime nowadays. Coronado Cherry in particular. Just got to remember not to open the tin completely or get one of the covers so the intial fragrance isn't full on. Can be a bit overpowering.

96 vr6 slow after traffic
spindat45 replied to motocrossmad's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Once you get on the move and air is flowing into the front of the car is it the same? Do you have an exposed air filter like a RamAir or K&N type filter? If so, it sounds like heat soak from the engine to me and is a common side effect of the engine sucking in the hot air that's being circulated by the fans under the bonnet whilst in traffic. Not much you can do apart from fitting a cold air feed or a cold air induction kit which can be a little expensive and a lot more subtle sounding. I have seen a few modifications to the standard airbox which allow cooler air to feed the filter. You ca -
I have this problem in my car and it isn't the heater matrix. If you are losing coolant then it's possible that the matrix could be leaking but as Ben said, it could be sunroof drainage tubes clogged up. A few other possible places are the area around the pollen filter (so check for a build up of leaves), the windscreen and also the rubber seals around the door. It's looking as though I'm going to have to strip the carpets out of mine to get to the root of the problem and also to allow them to dry properly as the underlay/soundproofing acts like a sponge and will absorb and hold a lot of water

I replied to a similar post about this a little while back. Have a read and it should explain what the problem is and how you or a garage can rectify it. http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?328102.0#post_328246 Kevin

how many ppl let other ppl drive there VR6
spindat45 replied to RAPgolfvr6182's topic in General Chat
I've only let 4 people drive my car. Sparkz, his missus, my best mate and my sister. Sparkz has driven some seriously powerful motors (R32 Turbo springs to mind), his missus has a VR and uses his R32 daily. My best mate is a driving instructor like me, has a V6 4MO and an Integra Type R previous. My sister thinks the VR it a big waste of money and petrol and as such drives it sensibly on the rare occaisons she has to, and I taught her to drive. All apart from my sister have had or driven cars equal to or way above the spec of mine so I'm cool with that. It's all down to the driver, their level
