Hi I've read in the handbook anti-freeze with the specification TL-VW 774 C should be added. However I have just gone into Halfords and there are a few sorts but all say compatible with VW TL 774 D ... not C. Is this ok to use?? Is it a more modern sort? I have just bought some Mobil antifreeze with with TL 774D specification - I thought before I use it I'd check on here to see if it's ok to use. Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt

Hi I have just had a stainless steel Milltek exhaust fitted to my car. Straight away I noticed the welded areas on the backbox are a very dark grey but there is also a brownish colour...very similar to a rust colour! A brand new exhaust can't surely have rust at the seams??? Is this normal and common with all stainless steel exhausts? What is this...is it part of the welding process? Cheers Matt

Hi I recently had a new exhaust and high flow cat added to my 1997 golf vr6 and it put out around 195bhp after a rolling road test. Considering the car weighs 1180kgs (kerb weight)... what kind of 0-60mph time could I expect based on my power output? I know the earlier odb1 golf put out 174bhp and had a factory quoted 0-60 figure of 7.1 seconds (I think this is correct but I may be wrong). I know the later odb2 golf put out around 185bhp but there were no official performance figures for it... however I was wondering what 195 - 200bhp could achieve performance wise? I'm assuming perhaps 6.

is it worth getting my vr6 chipped?
matth76 replied to jay's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hi I was looking into this and apparently if you have an odb2 vr6 (that is if it is manufactured 1995 or later) then it will not benefit from having a chip... that's because the current ecu is really good. However if you have an older car (odb1) made early 1995 or before then it will benefit from having one by about 5-10bhp. If you do have a new odb2 vr6 you will still get improved drivability, such as most flat spots eliminated but no real increase in power. However if you want to add a charger or high lift cams to your car then a unichip and remap is what you will need. A unichip is diffe -
I totally agree... Traffic light cameras are sods...especially those that are on dual carriageway junctions which come up without warning. I got done by one about 6 or 7 years ago.. it went from amber to red in the blink of an eye and unfortunately I did go through when it was red but it was too late to stop. I would have seriously caused an accident if I had braked when it went amber. I'm sure the

Cam kits...are they worth it and how much are they?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
From my limited knowledge followers are advisable but not essential. I have no idea what they do though. Someone else may be able to answer that. Ok... I received an email from Stealth... they will do 268 cams for 650 plus vat all fitted, they advise cam followers (again not sure what these are...does anyone know?), which were priced at 72 plus vat, and they definitely advised having a unichip too as the car would certainly need a remap. Stealth seem to know what they are talking about and doing when it comes to the VR6.. they have been very helpful too with any questions. They reckoned t -
Normal operating temperature of the oil should be around 90 degrees which you can see on your trip computer. It normally takes ten-fifteen minutes to reach this... so revving the engine above 3k revs before this is not advisable as you probably know. I find when I get on the motorway it can reach 94/95... driving about 80mph. If I drive at 70 on the motorway it tends to stay around 92ish. Driving round town tends to stay at operating temperature and not really budge at around 90. If I drive fast it can reach 98! Basically the temp on the average vr6 will hover between 90 (average driving

Cam kits...are they worth it and how much are they?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Does anyone know what kind of power benefit they would give my car? Thanks for any help. Also what do the followers actually do? Do they make the cams more reliable? Is the whole engine going to be less reliable or slightly stronger with cams fitted? -
Cam kits...are they worth it and how much are they?

Seems like quite a good modification which isn't too overly pricey...although what benefit do they provide to the car... and how much bhp/torque do they give to an ODB2 vr6 golf? Where abouts in the engine are they fitted exactly? I assume they increase the top end power rather than low down revs? Do stealth supply or fit cams? -

Hi I've heard quite a few people on here say higher lift cam kits improve the power of the car... Is this realistically the case for an ODB2 golf vr6? Also what make is best (and what degree... I've heard 268 mentioned a lot but not sure what others are available) and how much would decent companies charge to supply and fit them? Cheers Matt

Oh right. I was wondering what it was because Stealth had the VAG COM logo on their computer screen when they did my rolling road test.
-
Where can you actually get VAG COM... can you download it to a laptop from a CD or the internet...and how much is it? I assume it is software that can measure your bhp / torque etc?

what are the common probs with the vr6
matth76 replied to nells vr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My driver side electric window sometimes wont open or close UNLESS I slightly move the passenger electric window... very odd. Plus my standard VW stereo/autochanger likes to turn itself off and on for about ten times before settling... on both the radio and CD. Not sure if it's linked to my electric window or not... but going to take out my stereo this weekend and try and see if there are any loose connections. Not sure what to do about the electric window. Just putting up with it at the moment! Apart from that your car will be fine... just let it warm up always till your trip computer (a -
Hi I was looking into the exact same thing. Spoke to Stealth at some length about this and they said if your car is an ODB2 then it will hardly make any difference to power except improve the drivability. However if you have an ODB1 (which is a Golf manufactured early 1995 or earlier) then it should add about 10-12bhp. Stealth add a unichip as mentioned above which allows for the standard ecu to be remapped ...also allows remaps in the future which is good. AMD also do a remap, which again involves a piggy back style chip being added to the ecu... similar to a uni-chip to allow the standar

How long does the standard cat last on a Golf VR6?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks for your replies. Was really asking because I am getting a Milltek high flow cat fitted in a few days as well as a cat back twin jet Milltek system. I assume the high flow cat section will also be stainless steel but going to ask Stealth tomorrow to check. Just wondered how long a standard one lasts as Milltek told me their high flow cat lasts just as long (unless the car has been heavily modified). Has anyone on here had a Milltek high flow cat or similar fitted? What difference did it make to your car? I haven't gone down the cheaper decat route because of insurance hassle and co
