  1. Hi did you have a pic you could email me please? Would give me an idea how it will look afterwards. Thanks for all your help guys.
  2. Thanks for your reply. Does anyone on here have a supercharger... what exhaust make / bore diam are you using?
  3. Hi I have a full Milltek system... which also includes Milltek high flow cat. I've been told by Stealth Racing it is the same bore diameter as the standard vw exhaust at 2.25" but much more free flowing (I assume due to smaller silencers and of course high flow cat). My question is would it work very well and in harmony with a supercharger, i.e getting the most power / torque possible/available, or is there a certain bhp limit where you then need a 2.5" or 3" bore or similar? Or would a Milltek (including high flow cat) be TOO restrictive? I do know if you go too big with the exhaust you act
  4. Any chip will only give more power on the ODB1 but just improve driveablity on the ODB2. By the way it will NOT just be a case of plugging into the ecu ...normally it needs to be souldered on to the ecu board.
  5. Maybe it's just the cam kit that would replace some of the engine internals... as I know new tappets/followers are used when a cam kit is installed. This I assume would remove any noisy tappet noise which is common on the vr6.
  6. Stealth said to me they recommend a head overhaul when the VR6 reaches 100k miles. I'm not sure what this involves (I know it involves replacing the timing chain)...I assume it also involves replacing all the cams / tappets (followers). I'm not sure what a Shrick is... is this an inlet manifold complete with cams or do the cams have to be ordered separate to the actual shrick? WIll fitting a Shrick actually kill two birds with one stone and replace most of the parts that would normally be replaced in a head overhaul (apart from timing chain of course)? Stealth quoted around 1500 for a head
  7. Do H&R springs provide a softer ride than Eibach springs? As far as I know they both provide a 30mm drop. I didn't realise this drop increases over time... will it really increase by a further 5mm over a year or two? I was assuming I'd have to give coilovers a miss due to the price. I can afford them at a stretch but want to save money for a house at the same time!! usual story. Anyway I may well stick with Koni shocks as so far everyone says they are the ones to go for... so it's now either eibach springs or H&R springs. How are they both different? Ideally I want minimum wall
  8. Hi At 12.30pm this arvo on Discovery Real Time Extra there was a program called Deals on Wheels which had a feature about the VR6.. I was going to tape it but completely forgot. Did anyone see it? I think they were going to talk about upgrading suspension issues etc. The prog is a few years old but would have been interesting to see it. I had a look at the Discovery Realtime website to see if I could download the program but there didn't seem to be an option to do this. Cheers
  9. How much are H&R coilovers? Does anyone know the approx cost of koni shocks and eibach springs? I assume Eibach springs only lower the car 30mm? This seems small.. does anyone have a pic of their car with standard 15" alloys with a 30mm drop? My email is matt76_2@yahoo.com as I can't see a way to post pics on here. Ideally I think I'd like my car lowered 35mm as 25 or 30mm seems a bit small (although improving the handling the lowered look would be virtually unnoticable)... I may be wrong though. I think 35mm would make it look lower without being over the top. Are Apex suspension kit
  10. Thanks for all your replies guys. Useful info and lots to choose from by the looks of it... plus some good value kits I hadn't considered. Does anyone know the approx cost I'd be looking at if I did go for eibach springs and koni shocks/dampers...just the parts? If you could email me a pic of a 30mm drop on standard 15" alloys that would be great.. thanks. Cheers Matt
  11. I have the same "tappety ticking" noise which Stealth Racing said was very normal for a vr6 engine. My engine's done around 73k now. Stealth said it was a mixture of the tappets making a noise (which as mentioned is normal..have to live with the noise) and also a mixture of the belt down the left hand side of the engine... Stealth quoted
  12. I picked mine up...97 P reg, 69k miles top condition, full s.history, mostly VW... for
  13. I'll have a look at local garages. I did get a quote from a local one and it was more expensive but like you say I ought to be able to get a better deal... I just need it done right. Haven't heard of weitec tx...are they coilovers or a suspension kit? How much did you pay for it?
  14. Haven't heard of Sachs... sounds good from what you say. Is it a good quality make like the well known brands (such as koni, eibach etc)?... and did your 300 pay for both the spings and shocks? How much did the Sachs kit lower your car by and was the ride very hard or comfortable? Which is ideally better...sachs or a koni eibach set up? Venom also do a Koni shock and Koni spring complete set... are eibach springs better than the koni springs...hence most people tend to stick with just the koni shocks but opt for eibach springs? I believe the Koni shock/ eibach spring set up lowers the car
  15. I agree with you about it being a decent car... How much did you spend getting your suspension? How much did a garage charge to fit it or did you fit it yourself?
  16. Hi I own a 1997 golf vr6. Everything is great about the car... however I definitely need to sort out the handling but don't want to spend huge money on coilovers. I have posted on here a fair bit regarding suspension and it seems as though lowering springs on their own is not a good idea. (although AMD seem to say springs on their own will improve the handling - Stealth tell me the opposite) Therefore I'm a bit confused but to err on the side of caution have decided uprated lowering springs AND uprated shocks is what I'm going to go for. I have had a look at the Venommotorsport.com websit
  17. You've probably checked this but what about your exhaust knocking? I have a Milltek exhaust which fits really well (not much bigger than standard) and doesn't knock when there's two people in the car but put four people in and it knocks a fair bit driving in a straight line over nearly every bump due to the suspension being stiffer with the extra weight of passengers. I'm not overly worried by it as it doesn't do any damage to the exhaust or the car and it only happens if I fill the car with people (which I don't do often). HoweveriIf you have stiffened up your suspension you may find the ex
  18. Thanks ...anyone know how I remove the old one and fit the new one? So it's
  19. The standard (174bhp ODB1) VR6 on paper has the same stats as the 4 motion (both 0-60 low 7 secs)... I wouldn't say there's much in it. However the VR6 will definitely have the edge if it is an ODB2 or even lightly modified in any way.
  20. That's not a bad price. I assume it completely replaces the standard plastic strip at the front. Is the standard one ease to get off - does it un-clip or are there a couple of bolts to undo at the back somewhere? Does the new deep splitter fit on exactly the same as the standard one using the same bolts? When I speak to VW do I call it a "deep splitter" or are there several different sorts of front spoilers that VW do for the VR6? Also do you find the deep splitter is slightly lower to the ground than the standard one or about the same? Cheers
  21. Sh*t that looks bad... is that an old pic or have you had the accident recently? Either way hope it gets sorted mate.
  22. Hi Does anyone have a deep front spoiler? I believe VW do them - how much do they charge to supply and fit it approximately? Is it actually lower at the front with one fitted than the standard front spoiler? And is "deep front spoiler" the official name of it? (if I ask VW they may think I'm meaning a standard front spoiler - therefore does it have a model number or similar so they'll know I mean the "bigger" front spoiler?) Does anyone have a signature pic or any pics of a car with the vw deep front spoiler fitted? Cheers Matt
  23. I haven't read it but I do know the only thing clearly wrong with the mk3 VR6 is the soggy handling which is not what it should be on a car with near on 200bhp (don't know what's wrong with the new r32 - all the mags I have read about it says it is excellent in all areas - it is more subtle than the mk5 gti though but built to be like that).
  24. Agreed not very good at all...but much better for the BMC than without any cold air feed at all drawing in the hot air from the engine.
