  1. Hi, I'm about to get a cat back Milltek exhaust fitted and have been told the bhp increase will be minimal with only about 3-5 bhp increase. Are high flow cats available for the mark 3 golf vr6 and if they are are they worth it and how much bhp increase would they give plus more importantly would they last as long as a standard cat? Another question - what kind of power increase would be achieved with 268 cams? Thanks for any info and help. Matt
  2. The metal inside my plastic side skirts is going rusty ... making the plastic on the outside go bubbly.
  3. Hi I've got a Golf VR6 (non-highline). Are there any companies or website which sell VR6 body accessories - I am in need of a bodycoloured rear spoiler if possible? I enquired at my local VW garage and they do one for the Highline (but it should fit non-highlines I assume too) which is all primed at
  4. Thanks for your replies guys. The Milltek looks good. Does the Magnex look pretty much the same as the Milltek twin exit? Is the Magnex a "slash cut" design on the twin tail pipes?
  5. Hi I own a Golf VR6 P-reg. I'm looking at getting either a Magnex or Milltek twin exit full cat back system? Ideally I want to keep my car as subtle as possible. Is Milltek a good quality one and is it quieter than a Magnex? Will a Magnex or Milltek fit my car without any modifications to my rear bumper? Will they hang low or fit tightly underneath my bumper where the standard exhaust was? Do they retain the original hangers? Will one suit my car better than the other or do the circular twin exit tailpipes with Magnex and Milltek look pretty much the same size? Ideally if any one has any
  6. Hi Please can anyone tell me the website / contact details for the tuning company AMD and where in the UK are they based? Plus are they any good? Do they have a rolling road etc? Are they very expensive? I own a Golf VR6 P-reg. Whats the going rate for a Magnex twin exit and / or Milltek twin exit full cat back system? I've been quoted
  7. Thanks for your replies. Seems as though the general consensus is don't get lowering springs on their own. How much would a set of eiback or koni coilovers cost (or any other good quality makes) and how many hours labour would I be looking at getting a garage to fit them? Is there any decent garage in the south east including around london that will supply and fit them for a reasonable cost?
  8. I own a Golf VR6. I am thinking of lowering my car but not spending a lot of money on coilovers as I'm on a budget. I am thinking of a decent quality set of 30mm lowering springs. Will 30mm lowering springs make the ride much worse or improve the handling? Also will it look noticably lower with just 30mm? I was thinking about Eibach, Koni or H&R or a similar good quality make. Please can anyone recommend any other good makes (or makes to avoid!!) and how has your car been since adding the lowering springs?
  9. Thanks for your replies however I wouldn't say superchargers are cheap .... at
  10. Hi I own a 1997 P-reg standard (non-highline) VR6. I understand from reading on here that all 1995 year onwards VR6's, both Highline trim and non-Highline trim, have an ODB2 engine lump. But what exactly is the difference between an ODB1 and ODB2 engine lump? I understand my car will have a larger throttle body than the earlier ODB1 engines. Do ODB2 cars therefore have more bhp/torque than earlier (pre 1995) ODB1 VR6's?
  11. Apparently only the Highline comes with Traction Control. I own a non-Highline 1997 P-reg (therefore ODB2 engine) but definitely does not have traction control. Wheels spins easily in the wet!
  12. Thanks for your answers guys. The noise had me a little worried ! Has anyone heard of Oettinger? Are their exhausts any good?
  13. Hi I've found a UK supplier who can supply and fit an Oettinger exhaust. They're a German make apparently. Does anyone know if they are a good quality build? Also, is it normal for the engine to be slightly noisy after a journey? After I return home from work if I let the car idle it makes a very faint ticking noise which I have isolated to the main belt on the left hand (driver side) side of the engine...it's either the belt or the motor that drives the belt. The noise is not loud. The car is very smooth and quiet while driving. What does the belt do? ...it is constantly moving while th
  14. How much did you lower your car by? Would 30 or 35 mm lowering springs make the ride far too hard?
  15. Hi I have heard Stealth mentioned and a couple of others (can't remember the names). Please can anyone let me know contact details for any tuning companies, including location, ideally companies that you have had good service from who are helpful answering all questions? I'm in the south. Does Stealth have a website? Are they any good? Has anyone heard of GCS Engineering or RSD? Thanks Matt
  16. What is an ODB1 and ODB2? I assume it is two different versions of engine lump that the VR6 came in? I have a 1997 P-reg Golf VR6. What will mine be and will it be better or worse than an older or newer VR6? Does the ODB2 engine have more power? Ps. Mine's a standard VR6, not a Highline. However I assume all that is different is the trim, i.e leather etc? From what I have read here all late VR6's (standard and Highline) have ODB2 engine lumps and have the same power output...is this correct? Please can anyone help with this question?
  17. By the way my car has new standard shocks all round - the previous owner had this done (about 5000 miles ago)
  18. Hi I want to lower my car but I don't want to spend too much money so have thought (30mm or 35mm) lowering springs are what I want without going over the top. Can anyone recommend a good quality make? I've heard of Koni and Eibach. Which is good for the VW Golf? Will lowering springs adversely affect the ride quality or will it be improved? Does the tracking and camber need adjusting after fitting lowering springs? My car's totally standard and really good although I find it "wallows" a bit going round corners. Thanks for any info. Cheers Matt
  19. Hi I've read a few messages on here about superchargers being very good value for money tuning wise. How much would it cost for a stage 1 supercharger to be supplied and fitted by a decent tuning company? Also which tuning companies do this, and are there different makes of stage 1 superchargers, if so what's the difference, in cost and performance? I'd be looking at the cheapest option if possible. Has anyone had this done? What difference has it made to power delivery etc? Thanks Matt
