  1. Hi I've seen a second hand ZR-1 supercharger for sale for
  2. Hi I've done a search but can't seem to find many categorical answers or reviews on this... Which panel filter is the best for the Golf VR6.. for example, K&N, Pipercross, Green, etc? Are they all roughly the same in level of restriction / quality etc or does one stand out above the rest? Cheers Matt
  3. I liked the RS4. Very nice. I never liked the the previous RS versions as they were always estates (called "Avant") ..never understood why they did this and never (or hardly ever) made saloons... But this new saloon version looks very nice. Far more exclusive than an M3 which you see every day.
  4. Yeah I was really surprised to see it that high. My spark plugs are fine - had them checked only last weekend by The Phirm. I was doing a steady pace of around 60mph. Wasn't in a hurry and plus it was a bit frosty so was keeping it safe. Anyway I think what made me achieve the high figure was the fact I was not decellerating or accellerating... just staying at one constant speed... for almost an hour which is a relatively long period of time at one constant speed. My car's done just under 75k miles and seems in good nick at the mo according to the Phirm. I normally average 30mpg if I am g
  5. I couldn't believe my eyes the other day when I was cruising along the motorway during the day. I was flicking through the trip computer and saw my mpg reading for that journey was 39.5! I was only going between 60-70mph and not hurrying anywhere (like a lot of other drivers). My best figure before that was in the high 36's but I had to look twice at the figure the other day and it did read 39.5. As soon as I tested putting my foot down and went a little over 70 it started creeping down fast which I expected. Seems as though if you stay under 70 and more importantly stay at one constant s
  6. I'll have a look around and see what makes are available. Are some panel filters better than others? Has anyone else removed the "trumpet" shaped object in the standard air filter housing when fitting a panel filter? It won't let more dirt in by removing it will it? Has anyone on here used the (ultra expensive) Pipercross Viper cold air induction kit... for
  7. Hi mate. The Phirm recommended the Bosch out of all of them. They said to be honest very little difference can be made upgrading plugs or HT leads but if any go for Bosch. I like your wheels. I noticed a while back you mentioned you may look for new wheels. If you ever fancy selling them let me know. Cheers Matt
  8. Looks like I'll be trying the panel filters then with my standard air box. Can anyone recommend which ones are worth buying? I have heard of K&N... any others, ideally ones which are more free flowing but good quality and average price.
  9. Here's a link to a pic of them: http://i15.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/71/78/48_1_b.JPG Update: Damn they've been sold.. for
  10. Hi, they look exactly like the standard 15" multispoke vr6 alloys except 17". I've seen some bbs alloys and these definitely look like the entry range - but that is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for any help.
  11. Hi I'm thinking about buying some 17" bbs alloys (the alloy wheel size is 7.5" I believe) and need to know what PCD is exactly and what size I need to make sure the alloy wheel has - I assume it is to do with the alloy wheel and not the tyre? And what offset (ET) do I need to make sure it is... which one is safer (by safer I mean to ensure it does not rub on the calipers or rub on the inner side of the wheel arch) is it ET35 better than say ET25 for example or vice versa? If there is a risk of the wheels rubbing on the calipers will I need spacers and will this mean it pushes it out further
  12. Seems to run fine so far (much smoother as the spark plugs are now properly in)... although time will tell and it hasn't rained recently which is when it often used to occur.
  13. Cheers guys put my worries at rest. I guess I'll know for sure in the morning... assuming it's sunny enough to melt the ice! I couldn't tell if it was scratched (not because it was dark...I do have a torch lol) but because the dew had settled which by that time started to freeze straight away. I assume it will be fine.. just a bit paranoid after the other week when I scratched a bit of the paint work...with a chamois leather!
  14. What kind of power increase can be expected? I know it will be very little for either but are we talking 2bhp possibly for a panel filter and at most 5bhp for an enclosed induction kit (protected from heat soak)? I've heard unenclosed induction kits like ram air (which have a brilliant loud noise) can actually make the car lose power
  15. Hi Today The Phirm (VW tuning specialist) recommended a panel filter which will sit inside the standard air filter box as opposed to getting a BMC. I don't want to get a normal induction kit due to the heat soak problem. Therefore I was opting for a BMC which looked really good. However The Phirm said it would be no different to just fitting a panel filter inside the standard air filter housing. The only difference is you get noise with an induction kit and very little increase in power... no different to a panel filter. Has anyone got a stainless cat back exhaust and fitted a panel filter
  16. Hi Cleaned and waxed my car this afternoon today (when it was still sunny) as usual but when I was rubbing off the wax on the roof I found I was rubbing ice off. The wax had obviously frozen in combination with earlier than usual dew. I tried rubbing it all off with a cotton cloth. My question is will I have scratched my roof by rubbing the ice of with a cotton cloth? Unfortunately it's dark now to see but wondered if anyone might know? Thanks Matt
  17. Just had The Phirm look at my car. Turns out every single one of my spark plugs were no where near tighted up properly! Had a full service (inc. all new spark plugs) back in August... by Caffyns! Never taking it back to Caffyns again! Says a lot.
  18. Hi I've read a lot of good and occasional not so good things about the GMAX suspension kit but it is low cost. It's been recommended by The Phirm and apparently gives a drop of 40mm. Does anyone have this kit... how does your car feel? It has a 3 year warranty so I may think about having this fitted to my car early next year. Obviously it won't be as good as the top brands but then I am saving nearly
  19. What's a Golf VR6 Syncro? What are the differences (aside from being lhd) to a normal golf vr6?
  20. Oh! The pic looked as though it was 5 studs. Missed the 4x100 bit. In the last link you mentioned (the wheels I definitely like) what make of BBS are they? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/golf-alloy-wheels-17-mk-3-vr6-gti-vectra-gsi-an-others_W0QQitemZ4590483598QQcategoryZ9889QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Do you know of anyone on here selling these or could be in the future?
  21. Thanks for the links. I don't know how I missed them - I did a search on Ebay the other day and there were hardly any bbs ones for sale. I prefer the last ones, although all are good. I like the last ones as they look very similar to the standard ones except just larger. Exactly what I'm after! Although I do know winning items on Ebay is pot luck! I've also see this link: http://edition38.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=21513 Would these fit my Golf and are they a good make? Cheers, Matt
  22. Do you mean the BK299's should be avoided? Are they worse quality metal than the standard 15"bbs alloys?
  23. Update: Please ignore the question - the price was on the next page...
  24. Hi I've found an Ebay seller who sells lots of alloys and can do 17" BK299 alloys with Toyo T1-R or T1-S tyres for
