Hi is your spoiler a VW "deep front spoiler"? Is it actually lower at the front with one fitted than the standard front spoiler? How much did you pay for yours and is that the official name of it (if I ask VW they may think I'm meaning a standard front spoiler - therefore does it have a model number or similar so they'll know I mean the "bigger" front spoiler?) Also your wheels also look spot on...very nice. I assume they are bbs alloys... what type of bbs alloys are they and what tyre profile are you running? Cheers Matt

Is it fairly easy to use the standard cold air feed of the normal air filter box without the removal of the carbon cannistor? I don't have air con or anything like that to get in the way. Also does it stay stable and not rock around or anything - or do custom brackets have to be fitted to hold it all stable to prevent it swaying around in the engine bay? The engine bay looks very nice with the bmc fitted... makes it look much better than the standard air filter box.

I've seen it a couple of times late at night but to be honest it's not that brilliant in my opinion. When I've seen it it's often been silent with silly music following some bloke or woman around in their audi estate driving around endlessly with no commentary or what the prog is about (I think it's called Audi People... I'd give that program a miss) On a couple of occasions there was a guy who test drove a couple of standard audis which was good. I haven't seen the rally part on the channel which I'm sure would be good.

Any pics of the VW deep front spoiler? I assume they are the same black plastic as the side skirts?

I've just fitted a Milltek to mine... not the loudest at all but then it wouldn't suit a golf if it was very loud and chav like. It sounds very good when you floor the accelerator but doesn't drown out the v6 noise which is good. The Milltek makes the car howl ..almost like a V8. But is nice and subtle at low speed with a deep tone. It makes the car sound how it ought to! If you have a Milltek fitted at a good garage you'll be looking at

MY car's a 1997 ...does that mean it has a coilpack? What could the strange sound be that I mentioned? It's a strange faint knock and only happens for a fraction of a second - it is as though I have gone over something in the car - it happens when it is very cold as described above when I press the accelerater to the floor (which I don't try to do when it's cold). It's not something really bad like my car running lean and "pinking"?? My car runs really smooth when it has warmed up though.

Hi Does anybody have a pic of their engine bay with a BMC CDA induction kit fitted with or without cold air feed? What I want to know is does it look out of place, or actually make the engine bay look more 'professional'? I am thinking about getting one and utilizing the standard cold air feed that the normal air filter uses, to avoid sucking in hot air. Also how will my car be after fitting one, performance wise/drivebility and is there an increase in sound at all? Also is it possible to get a chrome or silver cover to replace the standard part on the top of my actual engine (the part whi

Great..thanks for all your replies. Where's a good place to get a Race Technology Performance meter? And do you know if it would fit other cars (I assume it simply fits into your cigarette lighter and program in the basic stats of your car such as kerb weight or is it far more complicated than that?) Are there any other similar devices that anyone has used and can vouch for?

Thanks for your replies. The electric window is totally silent when I try to press the button to make it move. And sounds normal when it does move. Seems very odd. Any ideas? My gf has a new polo stereo in her car which we could try but will it fit my golf with the wires at the back? Looks like I'll be needing a new clutch slave cylinder. Are these expensive for a garage to supply and fix?

Thanks for your reply... it's very odd that the slight juddery behaviour disappeard exactly as soon as a number appeard on the temp gage...which was still very cold at only 52 degrees...but it was totally smooth all of a sudden... both this morning and evening. The spark plugs are deep inside the top of the engine (very unusual) and seem to be very hard to actually see... Where in the engine is the coil pack located? Will new leads fix this problem...or do I need new spark plugs as well? How easy are leads to fit to the spark plugs... (I don't have any special tools to remove spark plugs!)

Hi Has anyone else find their car really lumpy and noticeably jerky when it is cold and wet for the first five minutes? Initially when I set off from cold the oil temp screen is blank with a couple of lines for the first 5 minutes. I find the “jerkyness” disappears as soon as the oil temperature on the trip computer starts showing a number. After that it is fine. I assume it is the Mass Air Flow sensor taking time to start working. Today I was testing pressing the accelerator pedal during this “jerky” period and I could hear a brief and faint very quick clunking / knock noise underneath t

Hi I have three problems... First one: The other day I was in a long traffic jam on the M1.. basically I was stop starting for nearly an hour. Anyway that night I got home at the end of the journey and my clutch pedal was making an audiable creaking noise... audiable from outside the car too each time I pressed the pedal (even with the engine off). However the next morning the noise had gone! Then a day or so later I had to do a lot more of stop starting in yet more traffic and the same creaking noise returned each time I pressed the clutch pedal. The actual gear changes are fine... it's j

Cam kits...are they worth it and how much are they?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
That's good then... so a new cam kit should involve totally new tappets ... I know VR's normally have ticking tappet noise (nothing to worry about according to Stealth)... so I assume new tappets (followers) in a cam kit will sound much quieter? I may well go ahead with a cam kit in the future then when my head needs an overhaul (not till it reaches the 100k mark)... Although the cost is pretty high at -
Is this anti-freeze ok to use....TL 774 'D'?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Interesting... I'll find out from VW tomorrow if it has to be diluted with distilled water or whether it is already ready mixed. -
7.6 secs for a standard VR? I thought the factory figure was 7.1? I assume either way it will be for the ODB1 with 174bhp as VW never re-tested the ODB2 later version which had on average 10-12bhp more than an ODB1. The latest Mini Cooper S has 170bhp according to Top Gear magazine (not sure how accurate their data is) and a 0-60 of 7.2 secs (possibly a touch optimistic. I also assume the Mini weights approximately the same if not more than the Golf vr6. My car has almost 30bhp more than the cooper s ...I assume therefore I must be looking at a "theoretical" figure of less than 7 secs. A

So G12 isn't ready mixed with water? -
Is this anti-freeze ok to use....TL 774 'D'?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Ok... I think I'm going to get some of the ready mix G12 then this week from vw... I've just checked my antifreeze level and the level now seems fine... although it is dead on minimum so needs topping up but for some reason was looking quite a bit lower yesterday... but it was much colder yesterday. How much is G12 from vw and to confirm I don't need to mix it with water etc? My current antifreeze in my car is a pink colour. Is this likely to be G12? -
Cam kits...are they worth it and how much are they?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If a cam kit and followers is added are the standard tappets in the engine replaced with new ones? If that is the case then getting a cam kit kills two birds with one stone... nice mod at the same time getting new tappets. But is this the case? Also does anyone know where to get chrome covers to the top of the engine (the part which says 2.8 VR6)? I've had a look at mine and it seems to sound as though it is on velcro when I move it slightly and only seems to slot in with a few bolts. Are these easy to replace with a nice chrome part? -
Questions about traction control / gearbox ratios
matth76 replied to Craig's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My car which is a 97 P (it's an ODB2) has no form of traction control. Not sure if the Highline has it though. -

matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Do Halfords sell g12+ ? However the handbook say to use G11 A8C. Is G12 suitable? -
I wouldn't take the risk... walk away.

Doesn't your trip computer tell you your average mpg (on setting number 2)?

I'm afraid I don't have that but have Mobil TL 774D. Can anyone confirm if this is alright to use?
