  1. Hi. On Saturday I'm going to Stealth Racing to get them to fit a Milltek cat-back exhaust to my Golf vr6 and do a rolling road session. Who else has had a Milltek fitted by them? Did they fit it neatly to your car (so the tailpipe looks horizontal/level and tight underneath the rear bumper)? Will it make my car sound vastly different to standard? I know it is more of a subtle exhaust which is what I'm after rather than "in your face". However I would like it to sound nice and loudish when the engine is revved. How loud is a Milltek when you rev the engine? Under acceleration is it noticabl
  2. Hi Are there any simple (not overly expensive) devices I can buy that will calculate an accurate 0-60 time (not a stop watch) for my car and is it something I can install myself easily and remove at any time? Has anyone timed their own cars? What bhp/torque were you running? How does the Golf vr6 compare in performance to a Mazda MX-6 which has a 2.5 ltr V6 and a Mitsubishi FTO which has a 2.0 ltr V6? I’m not sure on the power of either of the 2 vehicles or their kerb weight. I was wondering how the 0-60 and 0-100mph times compare. Has anyone had any traffic light encounters with these car
  3. Spoke to Vince at Stealth and he said it is probably a small stone stuck in the belt. I'm having the belt replaced. Apparently it deals with the PAS.
  4. There seems to be another member's post on this page who has experienced similar problems to you. Seems to be either related to the coilpack or fuel pump. The other member's post has more details though.
  5. Sounds like a good modification. I was thinking about a similar thing...but not sure how my insurance company will handle a DECAT...they might go into overload or something. Will a company insure a car if it has a decat replacement pipe?
  6. It's the VTEC that gives them so much power above 6000 revs. The sound that comes from them is amazing when I hear one rev its engine. Very quiet at low revs but so loud at high revs. Is a Milltek exhaust like that on a VR6 or does it stay reasonably quiet throughout the rev range?
  7. Nice one. At least you didn't have to do a re-test!!
  8. How does the standard VR6 (i.e without any modifications) compare to a Mini Cooper S? I know the "Mini Cooper S Works" is a different story mind you. However I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding the standard Cooper S... which I believe has around 160-170bhp.
  9. I can get 29-35mpg if I keep her under 60...normally on the way to work when I have to wait a while for it to warm up to 90 degree operating temp. If I accelerate or do 90 it comes right down though!! I save the fun drives for the weekend but I also use up lots of petrol. During the week I just let the nutters speed by me. I've driven slower in my VR then I ever have in my previous far slower cars. I feel in the VR you don't quite have to "prove" you have a fast car...as you do in say a more 'common' slower car.
  10. I'm sticking with my VR for 3-4 years...tuning it up as much as poss and then going for the R32 or something better then... the R32 will still be a huge head turner as the VR is now... Much cheaper to insure then and much cheaper to buy. The prices will come way down in 4 years. Good thing about the Golf is they last..in engine and looks. This is my opinion but I think the VR (being at least 8 years old) is still far classier than any new Vauxhall on the road any Ford (other than the RS). It's in a league of its own and I think the R32 will have exactly the same class in a few years. I'm
  11. Hi I understand the later ODB2 models with bigger throttle body and manifold have close to 185 - 190bhp standard, according to most rolling road tuners such as Stealth. The 174bhp quoted is for the earlier ODB1 VR6 Golf up to 1995. Therefore with small modifications many members have gotten their Golf to close to or around 200bhp. I understand the Civic Type R weighs exactly the same as the Golf VR6 at 1180kgs, and has 197bhp. I know it has far better handling (but this can be sorted in the Golf with decent coilovers). My question is how would the Golf compare to the Civic Type R in accel
  12. Hi Is it normal for the Golf VR6 engine be slightly "ticky" / "raspy" when you let it idle after driving? I think it's the belt going round on the right hand (driver) side. I'm not sure what the belt does but it seems to be where the slight ticking comes from. The engine isn't overly loud and only audiable if you open the window or get out of the car and listen when it's idling. My car is as smooth and quiet when driving though. My car is a 1997 year and has done 71000miles, full service history. Thanks for any info. Matt
  13. Thanks. By the way are the standard VR6 headlights on a golf any different to a standard Golf headlights?
  14. I bought my VR6 (not a highline) a few months ago ...it's a 97 P reg which had 69k miles on the clock for
  15. Left uni 4 years ago. Since then I've been a Systems administrator and Web Developer - primarily in PHP, MySQL, ASP, SQL Server. I've done work for the Tommee Tippee baby website, consulted for Boots, and a company called ..wait for it...Cotton Bottoms. It was an eco-friendly nappy company. I now work for a different company doing their 2 international websites. I'm also setting my own web development / design company up to go freelance... and hopefully earn more money in spare time ...to spend on my car (not that my gf approves!)
  16. Hi I would like to see any pics if possible please of any vr6 golfs with FK Angel headlights on them. Are they very easy to fit or do they require a lot of rewiring? How much are they and where could I buy some? Do they look good quality or are they cheap quality? Thanks for any help and info. Cheers Matt
  17. Thanks for your help. What is the difference between low oil pressure and low oil 'level'? Are they linked and is one worse than the other? So far my car runs really smooth exactly as it did before...no noises thankfully. Would signs of bad damage be immediate? I had to top my engine oil up by just under 1.5 litres to get it back to the maximum mark (is this good or bad?)... I'm not sure how many litres the oil sump actually contains. While we're on the subject of engine damage. What damage is likely to be caused (if any at all) from running the petrol/gas tank to virtually empty? I've onl
  18. Its been driven normally. Since owning it I actually drive slower than I ever have...always letting it warm up to the 90 degree operating temp shown on the trip computer. I will occasionally drive it hard briefly if it has warmed up fully and it's an open road (as I know we all do)...but don't get the chance that much to be honest as there's too much traffic these days. Can anyone confirm if the engine oil being very low on the dipstick (not totally empty mind you) is very serious and damage could have been caused...just from normal driving? Would the signs be immediate? Or is it only VER
  19. If anyone can answer my question about whether any damage may have been caused by the engine oil being so low please let me know. Ok I have finally got some Castrol Magnatec 10w 40 which I was told in Halfords that it was semi synthetic. It says on the back of the oil that it is suitable for VW 505 and 500 ...although I'm not sure what that means. Is this oil a multi-grade semi synthetic one?
  20. Thanks. Will I have caused any damage to my engine with the oil being so low (just under half a cm from the very bottom of the dipstick)? Does the VR6 have a high oil consumption normally?
  21. I've just rung Halfords and they do their own brand 10/40 semi synthetic for my car. Can anyone tell me if I shouldn't go with their engine oil?
  22. Is that semi-synthetic and do I go for 10w 40? Other than a VW garage where else can I get it? Many thanks for your help.
  23. Thanks for your reply. Caffyns told me they can't help me as their parts dept is closed. I assume all VW garages will be closed for the weekend as per usual. I'm going to have to go to Halfords and see what they have. The engine oil level is just under half a cm above the bottom of the dipstick...well below minimum. Very importantly: will this have caused damage to my engine?! The engine oil pressure light hasn't come on. I was routinely checking the oil...however I am going to have to check my oil very regularly. How often do you guys have to top it up? Does the VR6 have a heavy cons
