  1. R32 mark 4 is the newer equivalent of the mk3 VR6. Why not that? A lot newer and can be had for around £13k these days. In my opinion much much better looking than the mark5 r32.

    vag com?

I was going to say the phirm too mate. They did mine when I had a problem a while back.
  3. Ring the Phirm asap mate. If I'm not mistaken I think the oil light does come each time the car is started...momentarily. However it could be something more serious so best to speak to the experts.
  4. Stuey I had exactly the same problem about a month ago. Was bombing down the motorway in hot weather and suddenly noticed the red water temp light on the dash and the water temp needle at max. Oil temp as a result rose to 118c. Pulled over asap into a layby. AA guy thought it was the headgasket. Had it towed to The Phirm - about 50 miles away (AA well worth it for that) and they diagnosed it was a stuck thermostat in 5 mins. A day later was all fixed. Keep an eye on your coolant level and for any smoke. If no smoke and the coolant level stays constant then you are fine. Is your power
  5. If its using a lot of coolant and you def have no obvious leaks that could indicate the head gasket. What colour smoke was it? How much was it to get a garage to do your compression test? And have you noticed any power loss at all? What made you get a compression test by the way?
  6. Sounds really bad mate... but sounds very rare too. Haven't heard of any seized vr6's ..normally bullet proof reliable lumps. Hope it goes well. Let us know if you find out the cause.
  7. Ian test drove it a while ago and thought it had a blow plus he thought it was losing power from 5000revs onwards. I have test driven it myself and don't notice any power drop off at 5000 revs but if anything it probably doesn't continue pulling as hard as it should. Although it all happens very quick that high up the rev range so hard to tell. My peak power is at 5800revs so I shouldn't see a power drop off until after this. My rev limiter was raised at Stealth to 6700. I can only assume there must be a slight blow causing the power drop at 5000 revs. Unless anything else could cause thi
  8. Have thought about doing that but locating the blow is proving a bit of a problem.
  9. A while back I had a stainless 6 branch fitted along with cams and other mods etc. I also topped it off with a Stealth remap to get the fuelling spot on. However recently I have noticed the common 'tinny' noise get louder, so I think I may well have a small blow. I still have the stock 6 branch exhaust manifold so want to put this back on and replace the s/s 6 branch. My question is because I had a remap with all my mods will I need a remap 'tweak' after I put the stock ex. manifold back on to keep the fuelling ok or is it not really necessary? I did ask Stealth but not had any reply yet.
  10. Still prefer the mark 4 R32
  11. I received this email from a mate at work... ------------------------------------------------------- There is a very real danger that Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) will be voted the fans' best young player at the World Cup despite his pouting, diving, pretty boy antics designed mainly to get himself a lucrative transfer to Real Madrid and thus avoid the good kicking he deserves from Wayne Rooney at Manchester United training. He is currently 1st in the FIFA voting just ahead of Luis Valencia of Ecuador. Please can everyone go to and do the decent thing by voting for Valencia. It doesn't matter
  12. Anytime is good for me as long as its a saturday. The sooner the better. Not sure if I have a blow in my s/s 6 branch so a rolling road session should prove if Ive lost any power.
  13. Hi there I have a similar login problem. My problem is related to the 'remember me' tick box. I can't login if I tick the box. I assume the cookie functionality isn't being set in the code. I can login if I don't tick the box. Not sure if everyone has this problem?
  14. Pretty good price... I bought mine for £3400 with 69k on the clock less than a year ago so I would say the car in the ad is still a good bargain. Sounds good mate. Go have a look at it. Ring up the garage that serviced it previously to find out what their opinion of the car is and what may need doing in the near future. Full main dealer service history doesn't mean anything ...my local Caffyns is crap! If you do buy it get it serviced and looked by the likes of The Phirm or Stealth ...half the price of a main dealer but 10 times more experienced.
  15. I'm in west sussex near Worthing/Brighton... so its just an hour trip away down the a27.
  16. You can put me down for that. How do their transmission loss calculations compare to Stealth? I assume they'll give a wheel horse power so that should be a good comparisson to how my car was at Stealth a while back. Is the price £25 inc any vat? Sounds good. Just down the road from me.
  17. Gmax suspension kit mate.. The Phirm fitted mine. The kit costs £200. Best budget kit around and gives you the looks and handling and keeps the car comfortable but slightly firmer. Plus they have gas shocks which are better than oil based ones. And a 3 year guarantee.
  18. Whats your location? If you're in the midlands or north I would take a visit or at least call Stealth Racing. If you live anywhere in the south pay a visit to The Phirm. They are two of the best companies around that specialise in the VR and are half the price of main dealers - but 10 times more experienced! Either should be able to diagnose and fix your problem.
  19. Hi Si I can only recommend you take it to Stealth to examine the ECU. Sounds as though you have had a lot of problems (esp. for a car with your low mileage). Stealth should be able to check the map is correct because off the shelf chips can cause big problems if slightly wrong. They will also diagnose if it is anything else.
  20. None planned for the near future? How much are they?
  21. You wont get more power than a Shrick al. A Shrick can gain you huge torque. I had a rolling road session and remap before and after I added my 6 branch and BMC and only gained 10 lb/ft torque, and gained no bhp at all. Does make it more free flowing though and easier to rev. However if you had the money try and get a shrick second hand.... should be poss to get one second hand between £500-1000 however they are hard to come by second hand - most people hang on to them! You will need to budget in a remap (£300). Have you done any mods yet Al? If I was going to do my mods again I prob w
  22. I heard the cooper S works had a 0-60 around 6.6 secs with 200bhp.. A lightly tuned VR should equal its performance. Out of all the 'new' minis though I prefer it but still not my cup of tea and too overpriced. Although there was a nice German tuned mini on top gear a couple years back with 300bhp... and could be had for not much more than the mini cooper works. For the money though I'd still rather have a second hand R32 mk4 (with its 4wd) and have properly sorted twin turbo conversion. All for the same price in total... but with twice the power (400bhp) and good reliability/quality being
  23. Hi Anyone know the approx cost for a turbo conversion (which would include uprated fuelling etc - pump, bigger injectors, the lot)? Remap is £300 so I know that is something to be added on afterwards. I was assuming the region of £3-£4k? Powerwise you should be able to get 350bhp plus and similar torque. The Phirm have just done one using EIP's kit. Their car is a stonkingly quick one...370bhp! Steve you've been out in it... how was it? Anyone know much about EIP's kits.. how much are they? Matt
