  1. I was told by VW you just need to change the upper and lower tensioners around the 100k mark there is no fixed or even predicted mileage for when the chain needs doing.
  2. there's two parts to the cam shaft sensor intenal and external, i had to change the internal part which is basically a magnet.
  3. I've just had a similar problem with mine after putting 268's in. Firstly i would suggest putting it on the VAG com again the problem you may have might be the internal part of the cam sensor which is a magnet, if everythings bless it could be your timing's out. This was what was wrong with mine, it's incredibly difficult to get the timing spot on if your mechanic hasn't done cams on this engine before and can easily be done wrong. The bottom and top chain have to be timed up and the end of the cams have slots which have to be held in the horizontal position by a plastic or metal sheet whislt
  4. If your looking for new pistons i sourced one from scotland which included rings, search yell.com under pistons, it cost me £110 INC p&p.
  5. Nick, its true what VrSick says Vince was unable to remap my car last week as the timing was out, it could just be a matter of one tooth out and is easily rectified. The worse it could mean is you have to take the inlet manifold and wotnot off to time the cams up and make sure all the pulleys are at TDC, a job worth doing after all the blood sweat and tears you have put in to this project. Putting cams in a VR and getting them right are notoriously difficult as i've found out with two trips back to my mechanic now for the same problem. If you want it explained in more detail how to time them u
  6. If your head gasket has gone you would be seeing oil as well my guess is if it's coming from the belt side around the alternator its most likely a seized water pump. New water pump about £30 eurocarparts labour time no more than two hours, but it probably will need a mechanic to do it as you have to release the two back engine mounts and jack the engine up to get to it. Let me know how you get on. Good luck.
  7. No car was running sweet as a nut you would of never thought there was something wrong with it. My mechanic has sorted the problem he had in fact got the timing wrong, the crank pulley was not on TDC as the notch had broken off so he assumed another notch was the TDC. Way to check is to check the crank pulley on the belt side there is a mark there too. However it goes to show if you don't know what you're doing it's easy to get it wrong especially when there's two chains to time together and when you run the car you don't even know the timing's out unless you RR it. If anyone is experiencing
  8. Took my VR to stealth last week to have it remapped after putting schrick 268 cams in, it was put on the rolling road and the best run we got out of it showed 180 bhp compared to standard highlines being around 183bhp. The torque graph also showed all my power was coming in before 3K and then loosing power after 4-4.5 when it should be the other way round. Stealth said the cams were more than likely put in wrong, would anyone agree. My car has already been back in once for underpowering and the mechanic changed a faulty cam shaft sensor and also advanced the cams by one tooth, i'm now thinking
  9. Looks like this ones off as we needed 15 minimum, sorry guys and girls.
  10. thanks mk3anni, any ideas how much it costs and where i can get it done?
