  1. The new one is only a slight improvement; think Tic-Tac with porch. Whereas I'm just bringing my empties, to get the deposit back on them.
  2. European Recovery: ADAC ( http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft_leistungen/Ihre_Mitgliedschaft/membership/default.asp?id=257&location=1 ), the German version of the AA, do exceptional value breakdown cover 78E (*). Valid in mainland Europe, in the UK (I suspect they have an agreement with the AA) AND on the 'Ring itself, in the (un)likely event of a brake down or a crash, to save the 170E recovery fee. Unlike the AAs European Cover which won't assist you within 5km of the 'Ring. Just down load this PDF: https://www.adac.de/images/Antrag%20engl%2EWBS%207407_tcm8-91323.pdf, fill it in (you wil
  3. I've replaced my 'tic-tac' tent so can lend one if needed. Although maybe as a last resort only, as part of the reason for its replacement are a number of pin holes in the canvas. TG.
  4. Hi, I think the common solutions are either to use an impact wrench or to make a special tool out of a socket: file/grind flat sections to the top of the socket and then use a spanner or adjustable wrench to turn it. TG
  5. It's the Pod so reaction times aren't included on RWYB days. TG
  6. They need to be drilled to match the brace. TG
  7. It's not stupid and at least you looked ;-) I'm afaid that the seller is likely wrong. All Corrado engines are OBD1. A 97 Golf would almost certainly be OBD2, Golfs changed in 1995. The fittings for the throttle body are different. OBD1 ->OBD2 adapters are available, but not the other way round. So, it is possible that it is an OBD1 manifold and that an adapter was used on the Golf. TG
  8. I agree, pointless. My 2Ps Firstly, all Corrados are OBD1 so your Golf would have to be OBD1 as well. Secondly, I would have thought if left as is you will get over fuelling so it would be best to get it remapped. Easier just remapping your current ECU, especially if OBD1. TG
  9. Hi again, Sorry, the link to the WAV is actually in a premium member guide on changing timing chains, not the FAQ. And it's a WMA not a WAV! TG
  10. Hi Duncs, 1) The OEL display indicates that only an oil change is due. Best get it done. Adding oil will only work if it has used some. Most people here would have changed their oil twice in 15K miles. 2) Where do you intend to get it serviced? The VW stealer price for replacing the chains is over £1K! And most garages wouldn't know where to start. Common consensus around here is to wait until they are noisy (there is a WAV file in the new FAQ section), but when I had mine done at 160K miles they tensioners where completely shot but the engine was running quietly. I can only imagine it
  11. At Lukes run rate the weekend would cost him big time. At USC your £15 only gets 3 runs. :-( TG.
  12. With sights like these: (*) Or these.... (*) Actual cars encountered may differ from those advertised. ;-)
  13. The Bentley guide ( and I'm guessing all Hayes guides as well ) have a special highlighted warning not to reuse head bolts. Does seem the likely cause. Get 'em replaced quick and kick the arse of who ever gave you such bad advice. TG
  14. I'd love to ... but I only have 1400 insured miles to last until next March. :-( I am going to need some 'Ring methedone though before next year, my last fix is wearing off far too quickly. Hoping for a quick fly/drive jaunt either that weekend, or the Wednesday before, so might see ya there. Re. Ring Tickets: A single lap is 15Euros. Multiple tickets can be bought with a slight reduction in the cost per lap. A 25 lap ticket works out at 12.50E a lap. With various options in between. Re. Insurance: During 'Tourist driving' it is technically a normal road; police attend accidents, drives ca
  15. Me, please Claire. Both days, Camping Fri- :-) TG
  16. That was quick work Jim. Good to meet you, and everyone else. Congrats Luke. That's some 'standard' VR you've got yourself there. My top time for today: 15.8. Edition 38 here we come.... TG
  17. Oh dear, where to start? "The car sticks to the road like its on rails!" He must mean it drives like a tram. "PLEASE NOTE THE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS HAVE NOT BEEN PAINTED - JUST TINTED WITH X-POWER GREY, THEY LOOK MINT WITH THE BAD BOY BONNET!!" Tinted .... with paint. How aint that painting? "The car has got angel eyes, but one isn’t working at the moment…I think its just a loose wire." There certainly is a wire loose around here, but it's not in the light. "I haven’t tried to get the car into any shows or mags, but I’m sure it easily would." It's a one off because it's a show car w
  18. Mine too. Next stop Max Power (6) The full feature is on-line here: http://www.autometrix.co.uk/html/gti06/GALLERY/gtigallery06.html VRSick gets name checked in the sprint results for topping group 3. TG
  19. Hi, Looking through a photo site from last weekends TF at the Nurburgring and found this. The picture is indisctinct but the DVLA say it's a VR6. Anybodies on here? TG
  20. Did you keep you original top mounts, or get new? It's a little known/mentioned fact that the top mounts have bearings in them. I didn't know until the man in GSF told me, Otherwise I would have just got the mounts rather then the mount 'kits'. TG.
